    Hey old wizard99,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
When you get a new computer, iTunes can help move your music so you can play and sync it from the new computer.

How can I transfer my iTunes library and playlists from one computer to another?

Copy the iTunes folder (Mac: Home\Music or PC: My Music) to the same location on the new computer. If an iTunes folder already exists on the new computer (it will on a Mac) replace it with one you copied.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes stuff to my new mac?

just bought a new pro this week , how do i put all of my itunes stuff so that when i plug our iphones into this computer we won't have to completely start from scratch with the iphones. is this even possible?

SInce you gave very little info, I will have to guess. It depends n what your old computer was.
If you had a Mac before, then migration assistant, which comes with every Mac, is designed to do this very thing.
If you have a pc, the the Apple store will move your info over for you, or you could call Apple support and they will help you do it.
You can use your backup copy to move the music to the new computer.

I can't find any information on how you can transfer your ITunes library from an old computer to a new one. I have installed ITunes on my new computer but it doesn't seem to synch with my IPhone. And I don't want to erase the library that is on my IPhone.

  • I'm retiring my old computer (windows xp) to a new computer (windows 7). How can i easily move my itunes music from the old computer to the new computer? i have my playlists organized in my old computer, i would like it to stay that way in my new computer

i'm retiring my old computer (with windows xp) and bought a new computer (with windows 7). How can i easily move my itunes music from the old computer to the new computer? i have my playlists organized in my old computer, i would like it to stay that way in my new computer. I also have my ipods, iphone sync'd in the old computer so i want to make sure that things won't get messed up (my apps, playlists, etc) when i move over everything to the new computer and sync all my devices with the new computer.
Thanks in advance for the tips.

Make sure the XP box is upgraded to the latest version of itunes. Also make sure it's using the itunes media folder layout as explained here, because that's what the W7 is going to be using.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3847
Install itunes on the new W7 PC.
Get these folders from the XP machine
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
    C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
And put them here on the W7 machine
    C:\users\username\My Music\iTunes
    C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • Have a new computer - how do i move my music, etc from the old computer to the new one?

I have a new computer and want to remove music from the old computer and move to the new one.  How do I do it?  I have an IPod mini.

Copy the /Home/Music/iTunes/ folder from the old computer to the new one. You can do this using an external hard drive or by connecting the two computers via Firewire cable (if both computers have Firewire ports) -Transferring files between two computers using FireWire - or using your local network via file sharing.

I had my ipod synced to an old computer that I no longer have how can i get all my stuff on the new itunes without erasing it

    Most Windows users don't.
Purchase an external hard drive and use the backup software that comes with it to backup files from your computer.
Buy TouchCopy and install it on your new computer, connect your old iPod and transfer your songs to your computer.

No. Only those Apps that are not installed on the new will migrate over.

  • I am concerned about the health of my current computer but have not yet made the commitment to a new one, but: 1) How can I transfer my iTunes account to a new computer when I get one... and 2) What can I do if my current computer suddenly implodes and I

    I am a bit of a computer/Internet/iTunes dummy....
I am concerned about the health of my current computer but have not yet made the commitment to a new one, but:
    1) How can I transfer my iTunes account to a new computer when I get one...
    and
    2) What can I do if my current computer suddenly implodes and I have not yet 'copied/'saved'/otherwise protected my account, as is? -- I have already had my computer crash once and had one of your people help me restore all of the paid for songs (none of the uploaded from my own collection of CD songs, of course, so I had to spend a long time rebuilding that) -- and I believe I was told you could only help me recover that material one or two times altogether, no?
WithOUT purchasing a Mach or iCloud (I actually think I have one of the later, but rarely have checked it) account, is there anything I can do to responsibly protect my account?
Thanks for any time taken on this!!!

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Bought my daughter ipod touch 4th gen to replace her old one and want to get it ready for xmas by transferring her old content to new - how do i do it? secondly, if the old ipod is sold will the purchaser have access to account details?

Bought my Daughter new ipod touch 4th gen to replace her old one and i want to get it ready for christmas by transferring everything (games, music etc) - how do i do this?
Also, if she sells her old one, would the new owner have access to account/bank details?

You can transfer iTunes purchases from the old iPod to your computer then sync the new iPod.
Connect the old iPod, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click File > Transfer Purchases From
Now connect the new iPod and sync Apps, Music, etc.
As for selling the old one tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
That will erase all personal data from the iPod.
