how can I de-authorise a computer which I don't own any longer, as I have reached my maximium 5 devices according to Apple but I only have 3 - the others are on hardware which have been decommissioned and wish to have my songs on my new device I have purchased

The easiest way is probably to de-authorize all computers associated with your Apple ID. Then reauthorize the three you still want to use.

I have always synced my Iphone 4 to a previous laptop but now want to use a new (already iTunes authorised) computer. I don't mind losing music but want to know if I will lose data such as photos or texts? Thanks,

I have an iphone 4, using IOS 5.0.1 and have always synced it to my laptop (windows vista, 32 bit). I have recently bought a new desktop computer (Windows 7, 64 bit) and after putting it off for a while, i've decided to bite the bullet and sync my iphone with my new computer. I have already authorised my itunes account on my new computer, and i don't mind loosing music. I am more concered though about the risk of loosing my text messages and photos on my phone.
Could anyone please tell me if i will loose the messages and photos from my phone when syncing to a new computer.

When you connect the iPhone to sync with the new computer, a number of things will happen. If the new computer/iTunes does not contain any music, then yes, you will receive a prompt saying this iPhone is synced to another library, and if you continue, you will lose your music. However, you risk losing a number of other things, such as apps, contacts and calendar data. When you ask about photos, any photos that you have on the iPhone that were synced from the previous computer would also be lost. You need to save the photo folder from the old laptop and transfer that to the new desktop. You also need to sync the contacts and calendar to the same supported application that you were using in the past, such as Outlook, unless you are using an outside web-based sync, such as Google. Also, when you first connect the iPhone, it will make a backup, or at least make sure that it does before you attempt to sync, or you will not have a backup of some of the other things, such as mail settings, SMS, and the contents of the Camera Roll. I would import the photos from the camera roll to the new computer before trying to do anything else in iTunes.

Computer Doesnt Remember iTunes authorisation

I have an iPod Mini. I have purchased music from the music store and it plays on my computer. I plug in my Mini and it updates and plays no problem.
However if I restart my computer iTunes forgets the authorisation of the purchased music and I have to reenter the password. Effectively means that I have to reenter the password for purchased music each time I restart my computer.
Any thoughts? Tony

What to do when you have reached you're 5 out of 5 iTunes authorisations

I have had to re-install a few times recently on my Desktop PC but have noticed that I have now reached my 4th out of 5 Computer Authorisations in iTunes.
What happens when I reach the 5th one and is there a way of re-setting this counter?

I have reached the limit on iTunes authorisations because I have had 3 new logic boards under Applecare

I have a had 3 new logic boards for my 2009 Mac Book under Apple care but immediately following each repair, when I run iTunes I have to re-authorise my computer for Itunes. I am now at my limit - can this number be reset to zero?

Yes, if you select "Deauthorize all", all your computers and former logic boards will be deauthorized. You can only "deauthorize all" once a year.
Once deauthorized, authorize each computer again.

CD crashes itunes on Mac hardware only

I got a book-on-CD from my local library and wanted to burn it onto my MBP. Started the burn process and iTunes hung halfway through track 5. I tried to play track 5, and halfway through it crashed iTunes again. I played the CD on my DVD player and later on my PC at work - it worked fine, I even used iTunes for Windows later that day at work to burn the CD. Also, my co-worker has a mac mini (non-intel) so I tried the CD in his machine. Track 5 crashed his computer! Seems like the CD plays fine on non-apple hardware...or is it my laptop? This is a head scratcher for sure. Just in case the CD was scratched or something, I got another book on CD and the same problem happend on random tracks. I'm thinking about going to Genius bar and seeing if I can crash all their computers too, while my cheap work Dell doesn't skip a beat. Any other ideas?

I noticed several permissions changes after the last install of iTunes.
Launch Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility) and run the permissions repair routine on your hard drive. Then run verify disk. If any error is reported by the verify disk routine, restart your computer while holding down the Shift key. This will boot you into Safe Mode. The restart will take longer than normal, as diagnostic and repair routines are taking place. When the Finder shows up, restart normally. Then try your CD again.

ITunes: Authorisation failed. Please connect to iTunes

For some reason, I can't purchase iTunes songs on my iPod Touch. I am logged in and it states my account name at the bottom. The song drops down into the downloads section but I then get the message:
"authorisation failed. please connect to iTunes"
I've connected, reconnected, ensured I am logged in to the store on my MacBook but it makes no difference to the iPod.
I can still purchase music direct from iTunes on my MacBook tho.
Any ideas?

Yep!Same thing with me.I looked it up and sure enough,you have to have been logged in to your Acoount the last time you synced the Pod.
However,when I then logged back on a few days later,I received the message about details changed!
It looks as though my 'security code'on the back of the debit card is missing.What gives?
I'm sure Re-entering it will sort it out,but why was it altered by the iPT when I tried the Store via WiFi?
It must have been this as I've not changed it myself thru iTunes.

Windows 8 iTunes authorisation

I have downloaded songs on to my iPad. Having authorised my windows 8 laptop the songs do not sync to my laptop from my iPad. It is telling me I am not authorised for these songs and yet I have confirmed that my laptop is authorised. Help please!!!

If you want to use the command in the menu bar
File -> Devices -> Sync...
you must have your iPod selected in iTunes. If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. The iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES, when connected. Click on it there to select it. Then, that command in the menu bar will be enabled. But it does the same thing as clicking the Sync button at the lower right corner, when you have the iPod selected.
NOTE: If you do not have the iPod set up to automatically sync your new songs, clicking on Sync will not put them on the iPod. If you need help in setting up how iTunes syncs your iTunes library to your iPod, please post back.

HT1349 Itunes pages are sonetimes unredable, there is no scrolling and selections are inop

When using iTunes program most (if not all) displays are either inoperative OR the words are not completed. When selecting the iPhone there is no scrolling and some choices are unredadable.
I download an app from the store (free) and it is not on the list of apps available BUT it is on the phone bu very faint and unuseable.
All of the above is very frustrating.
The previous version of iTunes was almost asdifficult and I didn't download any apps. However this latest version has made it impossible to use most of the itunes features. Fortunately the iPhone works GREAT and I really don't need iTunes exceept to download apps. Ideas and suggestions will be accepted with pleasure especially if they help my get an app from the store. Sure.
Just open up iTunes on your computer -> Go to the iTunes Store -> Click your e- maill address (top right corner of the window) -> Type in your password for your Apple ID -> Under Computer Authorisations (underneath your Apple ID account balance and address) -> Press 'Deauthorise All'
-> This will deauthorise all computers and devices from your iTunes account -> you then need to re- authorise any computers/ devices you would like to use with your Apple ID for iTunes content -> to do this, select the Store tab along the menu at the top (where 'File', 'Edit', 'View' etc..... are) -> Then click 'Authorise this Computer' -> Type in your Apple ID -> Voila!
For any iOS devices (non- computers) you wish to re- authorise, these will automatically do so when you go to play iTunes content, download an app or anything like that on those devices!

Audio/iTunes Authorisation

I have made a holiday movie with music through-out. most of the music is AIFF format, but 2 tracks are MP4 - bought through iTunes. All of a sudden I can no longer play the MP4 tracks without needing authorisation from iTunes.... yet even when I've put in my password, and it tells me I am authorised, the files still won't play.
I should say that I have been able to play these files for months, and now when i'm ready to burn, they wont play.
The files are still within the project.... confused - and rapidly losing my patience with iMovie - I've had nothing but technical problems and so far haven't managed to complete my first ever project.

I have the same problem. A movie originally cut on my iMac. I transferred it to my older G4 and it worked fine (at first). But last few times I have tried to play it says the tracks are not authorised.
This is annoying because:
they are - I have them in my iTunes on the G4 as well as iMac and they play fine in iTunes
(ii) when i go online to 'authorise' the computer - it is already authorised - it says I have authorised, but it still hasn't resolved the problem

ITunes authorisation and laptop replacement?

Hello.. I had to send my Laptop for repair but was eventually given a replacement laptop in return...Luckily I had everything backed up just incase, but now I'm 1 down on my 5 authorisations, is there any way to reclaim this back? I've been tryin to look for contact details for apple with no luck..
So far ive got my PC, Work PC and Laptop authorised however only got 1 available to me.

Sorry, but there's no way for you to deauthorize systems you no longer have access to until you reach the five-system limit. Once you've reached five authorizations for that account, there will be a button in your iTunes Music Store account information (log into the iTMS in iTunes and you should see it) that can deauthorize all your system, at which point you can then reauthorize the ones you will be using.

Hey, I recently had to have a new hardrive put in my mac book but now whenever I try and sign into or authorise the computer for iTunes or the App store with my apple id I get an error message like this.
Any clues on what I can do because I would really like to get my music back.

This is not working because you must authorize the device. If that doesnt work you must authorize it from one of the devices already added.

I can´t disconnect my ipod from either itunes or "remove hardware" from win

hey folks, i have this little issue with my ipod...
when i try to disconnect the ipod directly from itunes a popup window says that the ipod can´t be unplugged cuz there are some files beeing used by another process or so... then i try to remove the ipod from the "remove hardware safely" icon, but it doesn´t work either..so i just wonder what´s going on??? i´m a little concerned cuz apple says it´s dangerous for the ipod to unplugged it when the "not disconnect" icon its showed on the ipod screen. Anyone can help me out?

by any chance, do you have McAfee ActiveScan security software on that PC?
if so, by way of experiment, try disabling that. does the ipod disconnect more smoothly then?

HT1349 "iTunes has stopped working" and I can't get into my library..what do I do now?

When I try to get into my itunes icon, a message comes up saying 'iTunes is not working'. I am beside myself as I have a lot of musice in this account. I can't get in on my computer (windows 7 professional) & therefore also not on my apple tv. Now what? It's been working fine until now!!! And I hate apple phone support! It is non-existent for this!

That looks like a GPU issue (or possibly a display problem, but less likely). Your best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar. They will be able to give you a definitive diagnosis for FREE. I note that you have a pre-unibody MBP which they may or may not offer to repair, depending upon the age.
