HT1349 My home button is unresponsive, what do i do?

Havent tried very much other then clicking it a couple times. Im scared to mess with it. What do i do other then Restore it?

Hi
If after the restore the home button is still not responsive then take it to (a) where you purchased it from and explain the problem or (b) your nearest Apple Repair Specialist/Reseller or (c) Apple Genius Bar.
If the unit is still under warranty and assuming the problem has not developed because of wilful or accidental damage, they'll repair it for you under the terms of the warranty. If the unit is out of warranty they should quote you a repair price. Make your choice thereafter.

  • My ipad2's home button is unresponsive..followed instructions for restoring and still the home button is unresponsive...

my ipad2's home button is unresponsive i called support and they emailed instructions  for backup and restore....this did not solve the problem...now what?

I don't know whether this solves your problem, however, I did temporally disconnect from FaceTime. That at least solved mine, where I also had my iPad 2 responding very sluggishly to any kind of input (incl. hardware buttons). The problem was persistent over several reboots, so it had to be something with deeper connections into the OS.

my ipod touch is stuck on the apple logo and i cant reset it as my home button is broken what else can i try?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Ignore the reset and when it says place the iPod in recovery mode
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    or
    http://joshuabailey1997.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/recboot-v1-3/
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single Click
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Apart from the battery being dead (make sure by plugging into a power source for 15 minutes), hold the sleep/wake button and home button together for 10 - 20 seconds or until the apple logo appears.

  • Home Button goes unresponsive when iPad locks, accompanied with Safari crashes

As the title says, I've taken notice that my iPad is slowly deteriorating performance wise. Safari has been increasing crashes over the past week, to the point where I think something is up if it DOESN'T crash within the last 10-30mins. The browser will freeze, and boot me out to the Home Screen.
I am now at the point where, once my iPad goes black after not fiddling with it for awhile, the Home Button will not bring me to the Lock Screen unless I double click it for the mini-music controls to appear. These things seem to have started appearing only after I updated to the latest iOS 5.0.1 update.
My iPad has suffered no outside trauma, the battery rarely gets to less than 5% life, and I've disabled unneeded and unused features, such as many of the Spotlight Searches. I do however, keep roughly 6-8 tabs open in Safari regularly, as I like to hop tabs as my attention span demands lol (that in itself may be the reason for the browser crashes..).
Does anyone else seem to have any similar issues, or know that it might be a firmware/hardware problem that is documented somewhere? I have seen other threads about unresponsive iPads/iPhones but nothing that matches my problem specifically.

I'm hoping I wont have to get to that point. But thats what its looking like its coming to. I haven't come across anyone else with the issue.

  • Home Button Becoming Unresponsive

Ive had my iPod Touch 4th Generation for over a year now and the home button is beginning to stop working. It only works about half the time and even than, I must apply a fair amount of pressure to get a response. Is there any way I can fix this myself, do i have to get the piece replaced, or must get a whole new decive?

i would make a genius bar appointment (it's free) and see what they would do they will give you a free refurbished one and take the old one but see what apple would do you can also set up asistive touch and when you draw something on the screen it will direct you to the home screen it can be set up in settings>general>accessibility

  • My mini i-pad home button is unresponsive

The home button on my 1 year old mini i-pad is totally unresponsive. It seemed to happen after I downloaded a software update (sorry, not sure of the edition).
Looking on the web I've tried various tricks such as holding the button down whilst slowly moving from landscape to portrait mode. I've also tried pressing the power off switch until red segment disappears, then pressing hold. I should add at this point that users recommend that a "standard" application should be selected first - this is impossible as the home screen can not be accessed. The button is not physically stuck and the i-pad has not suffered a fall.
Come on guys, you technophiles out there must have a solution for me!

Have you tried resetting your iPad?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds)
    No data will be lost.

my ipod 5th generation won't turn on or charge and i can't hold in both the button to charge it because the hoe button is broken, what can i do to fix it?

You are going to have to take it to the Apple Store to see if they can do anything for you. The Home button is critical for using your device. You need to get it fixed.

Connect the iPod to your computer and restore via iTunes

  • How do i restore my ipod while its disabled and says connect to itunes but itunes said that it cant because it needs a password and also my home button is broken what can i do to restore it

i cant restore my ipod because its desabled and it says connect to itunes. also itunes is asking me to put in a pasword but i cant and my home button does not work

If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
Next use the method discussed in the following for placing the iPod in Recovery mode without buttons

  • My home button stop working. what to do?

    Hello,
i have an ipad2. Suddenly, the home button stop working. Someone could help me please?

This requires the use of the home button, but try it anyway.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If that doesn't work, try this. Calibrate the home button
    1. Open a stock iOS app, such as Contacts
    2. Press & hold the sleep/wake button at the top of your device until the red slider control appears.
    3. Immediately release the sleep/wake button and press & hold the home button. Hold until the red slider disappears.

My iPod was working fine all day and then I locked it and when I came back to it, it would not turn on and it had almost a full battery. I have tried to plug it into it's charger but it still wouldn't turn on so I plugged it into the computer and that didn't seem to work either.  I would try the method of holding down the home button and lock button down at the same time but my home button is broken (which I also do not know why it has broken).
