My ipad2 closes the mail app while I am typing an email to send. Happens nearly every time.

First of all quit the mail app and all of the apps that have frozen. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on the mail app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the app. Close the other apps the same way. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
What I would try next is to delete the email on the server in your web mail account using Safari or another browser. Then when you go back to the mail app - if it opens ok - and the if mesaage is still there in the inbox - swipe on the mesaage - left to right - in the list on the left side - and hopefully the red delete button will pop up. Hit delete to remove it from the inbox. Do the same thing when you go to your trash folder in that email account - swipe the message to delete it.

In iOS 7 , i am not able to close the newsstand app while it is running. Is it a bug?

I am using ipad with retina display. I have opened the newsstand app. When I tried to close it using my fingers, I am not able to do it after upgrading to iOS 7. Is it a bug?

try double clicking the home button and swiping the app up and off the screen. if that dosn't work thne you may want to try turning it off and on again.

Deleting mail from the Mail app won't delete from my email account

Hello, I'm new to macs but I have set up my hotmail accounts on the mail application built into the OS, but when I press delete with an email selected, it gets deleted from the app but not from my hotmail email account. This must be somewhere in the settings, I just cant find it! Any ideas?

Sorry I should have said, I am using an IMAP connection between Outlook.com (the server for my [email protected] account) and Mail.
Broadly speaking the setup is working well and i can happily send and receive emails using 'pushed' emails (IDLE command). It just doesn't delete any of the emails on the server if i delete them on the Mac.
(as a side, the setup also generates 2 emails in the sent folder. But this is another issue on another discussion)

HT5361 I am having trouble with closing the mail app so that I can shut off my laptop. the menu bar under file doesn't give me the option to quit. that option is lister, but it is faded. command Q will not close mail either.

I am unable to shut off my laptop because I can not close the mail app. Command Q doesn't work. While "quit mail" shows up under FILE on the menu bar, it is faded and not a working option. Mail appears to be frozen. I also can not pull up the mail page despite the app being open. Clicking on the mail icon does nothing and there are no available options under the menu bar. Help, please! The mail app on my macbook pro is preventing me from shutting down, how do I fix this?

The mail app on my computer is open but nothing is displayed on the screen. When I go to shut down a small message appears saying "unable to shut down as mail is still open". However, when I try to close the mail app it won't let me. What do I do?

pennbank is correct that holding the power button will stop the computer. But it stops *all* processes mid-step, which can leave some of OSX in an incorrect state because of pending internal file updates that were killed. I do not like to use that method if anything else will make it respond. For example, once the computer was not responding when I was using a BT trackpad. I eventually removed the batteries from the trackpad to force it dead, and the release of the BT channel freed the MBP.

Links in emails are freezing up the mail app in iOS 6

When I click on any link in any email, the mail app freezes up. This just started happening after the new iOS 6 update on my iPad 3 wifi. Is anyone else having this same problem, and does anyone know a fix?

Close the Mail app in the Task Bar and re-launch.
Double-click the Home button to reveal Task Bar. Hold Mail app down for a second or two; tap the minus sign to close app.
If it still doesn't work, try a reset.
Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.

In addition to deleting the errant email from the email provider's web page (using a PC):
1. Close the Mail app from Multitasking: Double-tap the Home button which will bring up the running apps icons (Multitasking) along with an app screenshot "card" above the icon. Tap-drag the icons left/right to find the particular app. Tap-drag the app's "card" (NOT the icon) up and off the screen.
2. Wait about 30 seconds
3. Reset the device:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

I cannot open the mail app on my ipad

HI all,
i am having problems with my iPad 2 when using mail. It all worked fine until today.
when a new email arrives the icon shows waiting mail. When I open the mail app it shows a blank screen with the normal boxes in but no text and no email. After approx 10 seconds the screen fades to black and then goes back to the home screen. See image below.
i have tried doing a reset but it make no difference.
any help much appreciated.

Have you tried to force close the mail app? Double tap the home button. You'll see icons and previews on the screen. Scroll sideways if needed to bring the mail app up on the screen. Flick the preview up and off the screen to close it. Then single tap the home button or home page preview to exit the mode and try again.

My rMBP won't fetch emails with the mail app on it's own?

I have a hotmail and yahoo account synced with the mail app but anytime i get an email, i have to manually fetch to be able to see them. All other notifications such as facebook and twitter fetch automatically and on sync time-wise. Does anyone know why i would be having this problem with mail?

From the Mail menu bar, select
Mail ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Advanced
and check the box marked
Include when automatically checking for new messages
Repeat for each account.

How to limit the number of emails synced through the Mail app?

The Mail app is syncing all of my emails... even those that are like from than a year ago and older... I don't need them, I'd rather get rid of them and free up some storage space if possible.. The Mail app is currently taking around 5GB of my storage space!!! please help?!

You can't limit it to the last 50 messages, but you can limit it to the last 1000 messages in each "folder" (label).
Go to the Gmail website and click on the gear icon to the top-right side.
Click on Settings.
Click on the "Forwarding and IMAP/POP" tab across the top of the Settings area.
Towards the bottom of the IMAP section, change the "Folder Size Limit" setting to "Limit IMAP folders to contain no more than this many messages". By default 1000 is selected, though you can also choose 2000, 5000, or 10000.
Click Save Changes at the bottom.

Try downloading another app - any free app - that seems to reset something and the apps may start working again. Try that first. If that doesnt work, try these steps

When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app. However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2. I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2.

Update: I was able to have the correct photo show in my email as received on my iPad2 by changing a setting on my IMac prior to sending the photo on the email.
On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto"). This seems to have corrected the issue. I'm not sure why. Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2.

Hi, I have a problem with my mail app: after exporting a rather big pdf (10mb) from GoodNotes to email (which tried to open an email in the built-in mail app, the mail app crased and only shows a white screenwhen opening it. Settings for the mail app does not respond either and every app that tries to open an email (e.g. Goodnotes, or browser opening a mailTo link, freezes when trying to open a mail. Just noticed that when I close my mail app by double clicking the home button and swiping up it dies something weird. After doing this when I open my mail, instead of showing all my mailboxes it automatically opens one of them instead. Anyone know why?

Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app. I am certain other applications also need this information.
