HT1349 My ITunes is locked on my MacBook Air

I keep getting the message "The ITunes library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file...  I have I Tunes on my HP computer and I just purchased the MacBook Air and started downloading my cd's onto that computer and now I get that message... what do i do?

Have you found a solution to this in the meantime?
I tried to use the command
chmod -R -N Music/
on the home folder, where I have this problem. That did not help. The command is supposed to remove the ACLs from the entire Music folder and its contents, addressing the issue that the iTunes folder is "locked."

This may seem obvious, but presumably you have authorized the MacBook Air in iTunes?

    Hi Chalmita,
For your immediate issue of the MacBook Air not shutting down, try the following:
OS X Yosemite: Log out, sleep, restart, and shut down
    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18786?locale=en_US
Hold down the power button until you see the restart, sleep, or shut down dialog, then click Shut Down, or press Return.
If you don’t want the app windows you currently have open to reopen when you restart your Mac and sign in, deselect “Reopen windows when logging back in.”
If your Mac won’t shut down, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to force a shutdown.
Important:   If you force a shutdown, you may lose unsaved changes in open documents.
The Mac is completely shut down when there is a black screen, no active power light, and no fan or drive noise.
What version of OS X do you have on your Mac?  It might be helpful to back up your computer with Time Machine and update to the latest version, which is 10.0.3.  Do the same with your iPhones so that everything is up to date.

  • ITunes will not open on macbook air

    Hello,
I can't open iTunes  12.1.2 on macbook air OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 any help would be greatly appreciated.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try to launch iTunes. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • When I have my iTunes library on an external drive, but I forget to connect my external drive before opening iTunes, so then iTunes creates a library taking up room on my MacBook Air, can I just delete the iTunes library folder on my MacBook Air?

So I have a MacBook Air, but it doesn't have a lot of storage inside of it. So I set iTunes to sort all media files (it copies things as I add them and puts them in the iTunes folder) and I set the iTunes folder to my external ntfs drive. This has been working fine, but I find that sometimes iTunes starts adding stuff to the folder on the Air itself. I don't know if this is me adding files to iTunes when the external wasn't connected, or what, but is it OK to just keep deleting that library on the Air? Otherwise it keeps building up multiple GBs. Or will just deleting it do something bad with my lecture videos and music when I sync an iOS device? I'm really worried about doing something wrong with my large collection and have iTunes delete it or not sync with my iOS device and I won't be able to figure out how to set everything up again.
Also, should I format my drive to HFS+ rather than ntfs? The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know. I keep everything on my external and sometimes it needs to interact with friends computers or school computers.

I don't know if this is me adding files to iTunes when the external wasn't connected
    it is.
is it OK to just keep deleting that library on the Air?
    i wouldn't - at least not until i
    mount the external
point iTunes media folder location back to the external via preferences > advanced
consolidate my library via file > library > organize library
The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know.
in order for your Mac to write to NTFS drives, it needs some help by installing e.g. the NTFS 3G driver. apparently that or something similar is installed on your Mac already. preferably, it would be formatted for Mac but then windows machines would need to have e.g. MacDrive installed to recognize the drive.

  • How can I transfer CD albums, on iTunes, from a Mac to Macbook Air?

I have recently purchased a MacBook Air, and I am trying to figure out a way of transferring my iTunes library from my old Mac to the new MacBook Air.
While I have managed to download my purchased music from my iTunes account, I have yet been able to find a way of transferring CD Albums, which I have added to my old Mac, onto the new MacBook Air. This is a problem due to the MacBook Air not having a disk drive.
Is there some kind of process that I can do easily from one to the other, or is it a case of backing up my iTunes library onto an external drive and transferring it over that way? If the latter, how would I go about doing this? If possible, a step-by-step would be appreciated.
    Many Thanks,
    Walcnevar

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Sync iTunes from iMac, rest from MacBook Air

    Hi
My wife has just purchased a new MacBook air. We home share most of our iTunes library which she used to copy over onto her old MacBook from my iMac. She used to sync everything from that old MacBook - music, calendar, contacts, addresses etc etc - onto her iPhone 4S
She has just purchased a new MacBook Air.  The SSD drive make storage a little limited so rather than add her music to that HD I thought it would make sense for her to sync music via my iMac and everything else from her MB Air. This would free up a ton of space on her new MB Air drive.
Is that possible. Anything I should be concerned about or do I just plug it in.
Her music collection is effectively just a smaller shadow of mine. Her entire library is a percentage of mine with no extras so there is no risk of losing any music from her iPhone.
Her iPhone is iOS 6.  I am hoping that iCloud will take care of all syncing other than music.

Yes.  The iPhone is designed to only sync with a single computer and iTunes library.  If she attempts to sync with yours, iTunes will give you a warning that it has been synced with another computer and that syncing with your's will erase all iTunes media from her phone and replace it with the media in your library, including apps, music, movies, Podcasts, Books, etc., and iCloud doesn't sync iTunes media.  iCloud syncs calendars, contacts, reminders, bookmarks, notes, etc.
If you want to host her music on your computer and allow her to access it without syncing to your computer you would have to subscribe to iTunes Match, which would then allow her to access the entire music library (up to 25,000 songs) via iCloud.

  • Itunes quit working on my MacBook Air.

I was listening to itunes on my way to work on my computer.  I paused what I was listening to while I walked from my car to my office.  Once I set up my Macbook Air on my desk, I wanted to resume listening, but now nothing works.  I can't get anything to play back.  This is frustrating, as I've never had an issue like this with itunes before.  What is keeping the program from working?

    many thanks.
The text of the error message is, "iTunesSetup_exe(1) couldn't be downloaded".
Try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?
If you can't get a working installer via the standard download links, try the following download links instead:
    iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe
    iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe
