HT1349 my macbook pro 13" retina keeps dropping wifi connection

I'M using airport to connect this macbook pro retina to via wifi to the internet with excellent signal. It keeps dropping the wifi network on/off/on & therefore sometimes web pages take ages to dsiplay. If you click on wifi indicator, it says "looking for signal" & then "on", its happening for about 2 months. My other devices (iphone & ipad dont have any isssues & work 100% via wifi from the same airport.

If the troubleshooting suggestions here don't help you, and if your other devices work 100% when they are at exactly the same location as gives problems with your MBP, it sounds to me like a hardware problem with your MBP.
For hardware problems, contact Apple or your Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.

  • My 2014 13" macbook pro with retina is losing wifi connection

My 2014 MBP w/retina keeps loosing wifi connection on either 2.4 or the 5G Bands on my router my other MBP (2007), Mac Mini (2006), ipad 4th gen, iphone 5S, iphone 5, and iphone 4S, plus two windows laptops. Now there not all on at the same time, 5-6 devices using wifi at the same time. I have a Linksys AC1200 hooked up to my charter cable modem (100Mbps/5Mbps) I have power cycled the modem and router many time still does it. The MPP 13" is up to date, and I am running the newest version of mavricks. If any one knows what i can do?

It could be a lot of things so ruling out the network settings I would go to system network settings and start a new connection and use all the default settings for wifi, go to advanced and set with a DHCP server giving you an assigned ip address.  Delete any old "preferred" networks and move your current one to the top of the list.

  • My Macbook pro w/retina will no longer connect to my tv.

My Macbook pro w/ retina display won't connect with my TV via HDMI cable anymore, both the tv screen and computer screen turn black, the sound works but there is no display.  How do I fix this?  It worked before I downloaded mountain lion, does it have to do with the new software?

180ºF is hot, but that's to be expected when playing games. My average temp - right now - is 160ºF and I'm just surfing the web and creating a clone backup. So your temps aren't unusual.
And before you reach a point where the temps could damage your Mac, the computer will execute a thermal shutdown.
So you've nothing to worry about...

  • I have a macbook pro 15 retina - when ever I connect to bluetooth speaker, I get this loud noise coming from the speaker - if I turn bluetooth off, the noise is now coming from the macbook speakers

I have a macbook pro 15 retina - when ever I connect to bluetooth speaker, I get this loud noise coming from the speaker - if I turn bluetooth off, the noise is now coming from the macbook speakers & stays until i restart.

Hi John. Thanks for that input. At Step 6, after clicking "Next" I get a window telling me my OS version is unsupported and the installation may not complete. I am prompted to go to Canon's web site to "Check Latest Info".
I've had this window on previous attempts and from Canon's web site I downloaded two drivers as follows
    - ICA Driver V4.0.0
    - Canon IJ Network Tool V4.5.0
I'm not sure if these are the correct / complete drivers I need for this install or not.
I continue to follow all the steps. At step 9 I click "Wireless Set Up using USB" amd get a License Agreement (a little different than instructions)
I click "Agree" and it goes to a Setup window with two progress bars showing the installation. I've not been prompted to connect the USB?
After the Setup window is done, I am then prompted to connect the printer via USB. I connect the printer and click on "Redetect". It is not detected.
I then try following the Canon on screen instructions for connecting to the wireless LAN amd enter the password. It searches and indicates "Connecting" on the window, but it never connects and the blue light just blinks
So, at this point I am stuck??
    Thanks

  • My mac mini keeps dropping wifi connectivity

    Hi Folks,
My new Mini keeps dropping wifi connectivity so I lose the connection to Apple TV and even just browsing on Safari seems painful hoping a page will load before losing connectivity. I reset my router, restart the mini and it intermittently keeps happening. Has anyone come up with a workable solution?
    Thanks

Hi Leo, this has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.

  • Why does my iphone 4 keep dropping wifi connection since ios5.0.1update

Why does my iphone 4 keep dropping wifi connection since ios5.0.1 update, it worked perfectly before, my wifes 3gs connects fine and stays connected while my £400 paperweight losses connection, thinking of going back to nokia! Sort it out apple!

If the "oh so Great Apple" were to monitor these forums then they might see all the problems
that the people who have paid good money for their devices are having, i suppose they can do no wrong
In your eyes, i just thought that if you pay a lot of money for a product that works fine, and you update
It with a firmware update that they kept going on about how good it was and it can do this and it can
Do that, then i think they should sort it out. I don't care if i "don't deserve to be an apple owner" or not,
The fact is i paid my money and it should do what its suppose to do, i moved from Nokia to Apple because
The N97 was crap and i put up with it for too long, and they didn't do anything to fix the bugs they just stopped
Selling it and basically said tough s**t, so now this is happened i hoped Apple whould be better but they seem
To be just like the rest.

  • Macbook Pro 15" Retina keep restarting

Have any of you experienced that the Macbook Pro Retina 15" keeps crashing continuously until you formated the computer ?
Yesterday evening my Macbook Pro Retina suttenly crashed when i connected an external screen with HDMI. When i tried rebooting, the Macbook kept restarting when i reached "the grey screen".I resat the SMC and PRAM and i started up again, i made a backup of my imporatnt files but the Macbook only to started doing the same thing shortly after
After once again I resat the SMC and PRAM and got it to boot into the recovery mode. From there I chose to format the computer and havent noticed any problems as of yet, but i have NO faith in the computer and is almost just waiting for it to crash again
To make things worse i am writing my masterthesis so i am bit weiry
When i do the hardware during startup ( D during start-up) it finds no problems at all so i am a bit baffled to be honest ....

  • Macbook pro does not keep preferred Wifi network

Under preferences I select my 2,4 GHz Wifi netwerk as preferred but my Macbook pro keeps logging on to my 5 GHz network and after some suffers from slow connection (bad signal: that is why I select 2,4 GHz as preferred). Anybody any idea how to fix this?
Btw my Windows machine works brilliant on both wifi networks allways everwhere in the house. Know problem with Maverick?

  • Macbook Pro 10.5.8 dropping wireless connection

Two days ago my late 2008 Macbook Pro started dropping it's wireless internet connection. AirPort, AirPort Settings, Network Settings, and ISP are all green lit, Internet and Server are Red. If I run diagnostics, I can get it to connect for about 30 seconds berfore it disconnects. Sometimes I can just turn off AirPort and then turn it back on and it will connect, but sometimes I have to set up a new location. The menu bar shows full signal the entire time. It works if I connect with an ethernet cable. No other device in the house (2 PCs, a 2 year old Macbook Pro, and several iPhones) is having this problem. Both the laptop and router (airport express that I've used for more than a year without a problem) software were up-to-date prior to this issue.  I'm not that computer savvy when it comes to things of this nature. I have no idea what's causing this problem, but it's driving me insane.

Yes it does for a while though at a low level  then it shows the ! no connection.  It restores to normal after a while and works normally for a varying length of time.

  • New macbook pro doesn't keep wireless devices connected

I have the brand new 2012 15" Macbook Pro w/o retina display, 2.7ghz, 8gb ram, 750gb @ 7200rpm and 10.7.4. I've already received and returned this setup once in the time that it has been released because wireless devices don't seem to stay connected after the computer falls asleep or is inactive for more than a few minutes. I have multiple Magic mice and a Verbatim 96991 I've tried as well as bluetooth speakers. All of these products disconnected themselves as soon as the computer or device was inactive for more than a few minutes. I have multiple macs as well and all of these devices connect fine with my older macs. I'm assuming this problem can be fixed with a software update, but clearly there is not one out yet. Any help would be much appreciated.

There is no such animal as an intel G5. Intel based towers are now called Mac Pros. G5 towers run the PowerPC chips.
If you have the MacPro at work, then yes, something else would seem to be amiss.
If you have a G5 at work, then it could still be the universal binary issue.

  • 2011 MacBook Pro Bootcamped Win7 64bit dropping wifi under heavy use

    Hi all,
I have a Macbook Pro 17" 2011 model which has bootcamp on it so I have OS X 10.6 on one partition and Windows 7 64bit on the other.
When using the Windows Partition.. It would seem if I leave a program running and don't touch the laptop, after a short period the wifi drops and disconnects. Steps i've taken to troubleshoot:
    1. Tested all other devices on the network they remain connected when the macbook disconnects
    2. Changed the power consumption on the device so that the computer doesnt have permission to turn the adapter off
    3. Turned power reduction off in the drivers
    4. Installed the latest version of Bootcamp
    5. Uninstalled the broadcom wifi driver and reinstalled via bootcamp's driver directory
The program I am running is a macro that reads memory from a game and controls the game while I work. It does put quite abit of strain on the WiFi adapter as it sends a lot of commands.. I am wondering if it's being overloaded or something
Quite a few people seem to have the same problem :S

I'm having the same problem. Wifi loses connection after 5-ish minutes.
Wondering if it's an issue with the 802.11n drivers...? Seems a little more stable on the "g" networks.
This has been happening since the latest OS X update. I have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro 15".

  • New macbook pro 2011 weak and dropping wireless connection

Just looked throught this part of the forum and found out there are a lot of people out there which seem to have the same problem as me.
I purchased a new modell 2011 MBP on the very first day from our apple store.
At home, sitting directly beside the wireless router I didn´t noticed anything wrong.
I have got beside of the Mac OS a bootcamp Prt. with Windows 7 on it and everythign works fine so far.
Five days after purchased I started traveling on business and at present we are for some weeks in Melbourne. Were having a wireless connection in our appartement and here I have got massiv problems with my connection.
We are having altogether four windows mashines with us, my IPad, my Iphone, another HTC smartphone, and my new Macbook.
All the other devices connecting to our room wireless without problems. The net strengh is not fantastic but the other devices bringing it up to four bars on the windows wireless symbol in the task bar. None of the other computers where ever loosing the connection.
Only my macbook can not make it over three bars and its going on and off. Donwloads fail freuquently because the conection is interrupted more than one times..
In my opinion this problem is even worse on the Windows OS and a bit better but far away from beeing good and acpetable on the Mac Os.
I hope its only a driver issue and there is no hardware problem with the new mashine. Other than this I love the new notebook and I am very satisfied with its performance.

    Hi,
I've noticed similar behavior - specifically with the new 2011 MacBook Pro 13 and 17" models (tested) on Cisco infrastructure - using a 1252 and 3500i/e series APs running in dual-band mode, with 5GHz preferred. I've seen the transfer rates when in close proximity to the AP move between 72mbit and 243 - occasionally 300. My 2010 system in the same position is a solid, dependable 300.
They did modify the wireless chipset in the new 2011 MacBook Pros to replace it with a true 3x3 802.11n device. Cisco have long praised the Broadcom chipsets so I will see if their wireless team can advise me on what this new gear is capable of.
I currently look after a very large deployment of wireless LAN equipment so my wireless performance is absolutely critical to my work - the 2010 system was a godsend and a testament to how wireless devices should be built. It looks to me like this could be a software issue so I only hope Apple resolves this ASAP. I'll hang on to my 2010 system for now...

  • I want to use my ipad as a midi controller on my MacBook pro via USB no with wiFi connection, is this possible ?

hi guys, i am new to garageband.
i have the Ipad 4th generation and just installed garageband on my mackbook pro, i see that i can use my ipad as a midi controller via WiFi but there is a delay, my question is: Can i use my ipad as a midi controller via the USB connection, that will eliminate de lag or delay.
    thanks

Keynote Remote, but you will need wifi. You can set up an ad-hoc wifi network from your Macbook itself ("Create Network" from the Wifi menu), which the iPad can connect to.

  • Ipad keeps dropping wifi connection since 4.3 update

My Ipad just won't stay connected to wifi since I updated to 4.3. It keeps dropping, I keep manually reconnecting and a minute or so later it drops again. I tried rebooting it, rebooting my router, etc. I know it's not a signal strength issue - other device are getting a strong signal right next to the Ipad - and the Ipad always worked flawlessly until now.
    Anyone else having this issue?

What make/model router do you have? Does it have the latest firmware?
Does your IPad still work on other networks, i.e., Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc.?
This could be a 4.3 bug or a 4.3 change may just have exposed a bug in your router. This is why getting the latest router firmware is important. That bug (if it exists) may already have been fixed.
If you can't get it working report your problem to Apple along with router details (make/model/version, router firmware level) to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Ipad 3 keeps dropping wifi connection and won't connect to itunes store at all

I get intermittent wifi network connection.  Connection keeps dropping.  When I try to log onto itunes store, connection immediately drops every time.  Rest of my computers have no problem, just the ipad 3

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
    Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
