Not updating the iOS should not effect your problem.
As long as all the apps are in the iTunes library, you will not lose app data by updating the iOS.

The best way to manage your music when you have multiple iPods is to change the settings under "Options" so that you manually manage your music instead of it doing an automatic synch each time you connect. To add only the songs you want, highlight them and then "click and drag" them to your iPod. This way none of your daughter's music gets added and you're not in danger of deleting your playlist as well. It will show you how many songs you've added and you can then click on your iPod to verify. To delete her songs off your iPod now, click on the music tab under your iPod so show everything you have stored. Find those songs you want to delete, click on them to highlight then go up to the Edit window and click delete. This will erase them off your iPod but be careful when you highlight. I did that and then had to reload a cd on my boyfriend's, lol. hope this helps

Thank you.Creating a wholly new AppleID and then using it to set up a new iTunes account will not delete the older AppleID's account history. It will remain, and remain tied to that AppleID.
The new AppleID and iTunes account will have no history until you start buying apps with it. ALL of your previous purchases made with the old AppleID remain, forever, with that AppleID. They cannot be transferred or merged to another AppleID.
Any photos you have are not tied to any AppleID in the first place so will remain on your computer in whatever program you transfer your photo's to. If you use photostream in iCloud, that is tied to the iCloud account, which in turn is tied to the AppleID used to create the account. It too cannot be closed, deleted or merged with another. Photostream only stores photos for 30 days though (it is intended merely to move photos amongst your associated or linked devices - it is not permanent storage), so they will eventually be deleted from that old account.
You could enable photostream on a new iCloud account if you wished to. -

Synced media like apps, music and videos are not included in the packup that iTunes makes. Thus, if they are not in the iTunes library on which the update is made they get deleted. and are not on the iPod after the update. For what is in the backup see:

NickHmm, after you uploaded the music that wasn't already matched in iTunes did you then delete the tracks from your library or are they still there? If you iPod is set for automatic sync and you removed the tracks from the library then naturally they would have been removed from the device. The iPod classic doesn't come with wi-fi so you can't download content directly to it as you can with an iPhone/iPad/iPod touch, but even with those devices it is not necessarily a good idea to remove your own local copy of the content. iCloud isn't really an alternative to a local library, rather an adjunct to it, letting you access stuff on your library on demand from a device that can't hold it all at one time.
If I've misunderstood then if may be that you simply need to restore the device to repopulate it.

Back in March my PC crashed while updating my Iphone 3Gs. Both froze and were rendered unusable. The Iphone had to be restored to factory settings in order to be used. The PC required more work and was delayed by warranty issues. In the meantime I bought a laptop and installed the newest version of Itunes. Itunes recognizes my phone but only comes up as "Set up your Iphone" with two subsequent options: set up as new iphone or restore from back up. I have mistakenly chosen the option to restore it back to July 2, 2011 when I last synced. No big deal, but it will not let me go beyond that screen and I cannot transfer my recovered apps or anything else. Any help on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

When i bought my iPhone and my iPad they both were on iOS 7.0.2 i updated them shortly after thinking the new iOS 7.0.4 was better. i see its not but they both worked great with iTunes before and after the update. My question is why is my iPhone not connecting to iTunes? it will not connect through USB or wifi and i know that the setting to do that is turned on. my iPad connects through iTunes through wifi but not USB. This isnt making any sense but i wanna know is this a iTunes issue? or is it my phone and iPad??
This can sometimes be the result of a faulty/damaaged USB sync cable. Do you have another cable you could test it out with?

Hm, are you doing this via USB or Wifi? Also, have you tried selecting the "Manually manage music and videos" option on the Summary tab of the iTunes main window, and then dragdropping your media to your device? Try authorize this computer in the store menu in Itunes. This worked for me. It seems that this is an account problem on iTunes.

Whenever I try and eject my iPod from iTunes after it is done syncing a box pops us that says "The iPods' 'Owners iPod' cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application".iTunes is the only thing open on my computer so I don't understand what this could mean.
