  • 2nd gen nano not recognized by XP or iTunes

    Situation:
2nd gen nano with Nike+ will not appear in Device Manager nor charge. In essence, the XP pro computer does not see the nano at all. However, Nike+ still works, the nano still works in an iHome clock radio and it will beep when connected to a dock.
    Troubleshooting:
    * 5Rs attempted - however, since the PC Device Manager will not see the nano, I can't issue any restore commands.
    * even with nano in disk mode, PC does not see it
    * older first gen nano still works properly with same iTunes environment.
Has the USB on the newer nano gone bye-bye?

  • 2nd gen nano not recognized by MBA / Lion 10.7.4 / iTunes 10.6.3

I have this 2nd gen nano (and a bunch of other ones) set to manage music manually. This particular device has worked fine while connected to MBP mid 2010 running SL and most recent iTunes.
But, this 2nd gen nano does not show up on the MacBook Air, mid-2011, running Lion 10.7.4, iTunes 10.6.3.
I have reset the nano. It plays fine, responds to setting changes properly and it does charge while plugged into either USB port of the MBA.  The computer is plugged into wall juice, and the other USB port is not in use while I try to get the nano recognized.
Disk utility does not see it either.
This MBA is not the computer I usually sync this 2nd gen nano to since that machine (the MBP mid 2010) is out for repair.
i expected iTunes on this MBA  to just mount the thing (since the iPod has the manual preference set, and is a Mac-formatted nano) and that it would then let me delete a few picks and drag a few newer tunes onto it.
The MBA, the nano and my out-for-repair MBP all have the same Apple ID associated with purchased music on the devices.
I rarely reload this nano and haven't actually changed its music since I put the MBP to Lion, so I am not sure if it's Lion, iTunes or the MBA that is the issue with this 2nd gen nano.
After the 2nd nano would not mount, I tried two other iPods, one is a 3rd gen nano and the other is a Classic.   Both of them connected fine and let me drag stuff onto them.
So it seems that either Lion 10.7.4 or iTunes 10.6.3 does not feel like recognizing the 2nd gen nano.  Hope this can be fixed.  That model nano is practically indestructible and there are still lots of them out there!

    Update on the above:
I did some more research on this using assorted of my 2nd gen nanos and a couple 1st gen ones as well.
It's only the 2GB 2nd gen nanos  MA477LL part number, that do not work with Lion / 10.7.4 / iTunes 10.6.3.
2nd gen MA477LL  does not work, it's a 2GB model. I have two of these.  Neither works.
    2nd gen MA428LL  works  it is a 4GB model
    2nd gen MA426LL  works  it is a 4GB model
    1st gen MA352LL  works - it's a 1st gen nano refurb (1GB)
1st gen MA350LL  (1GB) - this is another 1st gen nano refurb, but one that's formatted for Windows (and had nothing on it when I connected it).  For some reason it mounted fine in Mac iTunes environment and even let me drag an AAC track onto it.  I was dumbfounded.   On the desktop, its sys info showed info like any FAT32 flashdrive but it did have an iPod nano icon on it.   I ejected it from iTunes and plugged in a pair of earbuds and hit play on the track. It plays fine.   Go figure!  I rechecked the settings in the device.  It does say Windows for the format. I feel like I'm in the Bermuda triangle.  I might have to reformat it next time a Windows iTunes setup sees that nano though.
So bottom line here with the second gen nanos:    it's the 2GB model, the 2nd gen nanos with model MA477LL that do not work in Lion and iTunes 10.6.3 for whatever reason.   Both of my devices with that model number do work fine on an older MBA running Snow Leopard and iTunes 10.4.

  • IPod shuffle(2nd gen) is not recognised by Windows XP

I instaled iTunes software from the website
and transfered the songs to the iPod.
When i unpluged the iPod and turned it ON, the green light on one side is glowing continuously.
I neither responded to any of the button press.
When I plugged it in again, the system was not able to recognise the device.
Do help me resolve the issue.
    Thanks in advance

  • 7th gen nano not recognized by windows 8.1 as a drive OR itunes

When i plug in (USB) my 7th gen nano, my PC (Windows 8.1) doesn't recognize it as a drive (it pops up as a drive for about 2 seconds then goes away) and itunes says its detected but cant be identified properly.  My 4th gen nano connects just fine.

  • 2nd gen nano not recognized on computer or i-tunes

We have 3 nano's in the house; 2 first gen's and 1 2nd gen. The first gen's are working fine. However, when I connect the 4G 2nd gen into the computer (any computer...3 of them...)it is not recognized by the computer, i-tunes, anywhere! Won't even charge from computer. Will plug, play and charge in i-home, but not on computer. I have done the 5 R's (except restore because the computer won't recongnize it...); reinstalled i-tunes; reset, forced to disk mode, etc. I'm out of ideas. 4 months out of warranty of course! Anyone know what to do?

    Hello bigbthomson,

  • 6th gen nano not recognized by windows 7 64 bit

My nano is not seen by my computer or Itunes. also when i download itunes there appear to be no drivers for mobile support. what am i doing wrong? I tried all the steps found on apple support and nothing works. My sync cable is brand new and all my usb ports work fine. help please.

Working solution on win 7 32 & 64 with driver lj1010serieshb-vista, did as follow:
connected printer, windows tried to auto install and failed, device was listed as unspecified.
googled for lj1010serieshb-vista(32/64).zip driver, downloaded from hp website, unzipped and extracted files.
Start > Run > PrintManagement.msc , then Print Servers > Localhost , right click on drivers > add driver > next > choose x86/x64 > next > have disk > browse to location of extracted
files, select hpc1015e.inf > ok > select hp laserjet 1010 hb > next > finish
Repeat above process and this time select select hp laserjet 1015 hb > next > finish , this step is needed as stated on previous post some files are missing on the 1010 driver and adding 1015 fixes the problem.
Now back to Devices and printers , right click on the unspecified device > troubleshoot > then will ask to search for driver, select "apply this fix" , it will find and install the correct driver from previous step > then will ask to set printer
as default, select "apply this fix" > then will ask if you want to share printer, select "skip this fix" if you don't want to share > close troubleshooter.
Now i have perfectly working printer, 'preferences'  is working and not crashing win explorer and printer doesn't hung.
I guess you could first add the two drivers to your system before
connecting your printer and it would install perfectly but who would though this old printer would not work trough windows update.
thanks to the people who went by trial and error to find a working solution.

  • Problem 2nd gen nano not recognized by Belkin TuneBase FM transmitter

Anyone having trouble with the Nano 2nd Gen connecting and playing on a Belkin TuneBase FM Transmitter? I can only imagine the latest itunes update may have changed some setting? Any thoughts...Thanks

Did your iPod Nano play previously on Belkin?  Have you contacted Belkin?

  • 2nd gen ipod not recognized in windows xp or itunes

I have been working on this for 2 weeks. I have loaded the latest usb drivers/chipsets. Have followed every suggestion on apple website. Obviously lots of people have this problem. When my shuffle is plugged in the computer sees it as new hardware and trys to load a driver which of course there is not one. The hardware "fails to install" and windows can't see it. itunes diagnostics sees all the controllers but no ipod connected. I am about to return the shuffle as I cannot use it. There is nothing wrong with my usb ports my ipod nano works just fine as do all my other devices (camera, printers, mouse, etc.)
    Has anyone solved this?

there is no drive letter assigned. ALL that the computer does is when the ipod is plugged in it says "new hardware found" and the word ipod appears in the system tray. Then immediately the Found new harware Wizard starts up. it says, "This wizard helps you install software for: ipod. So I am interpreting that the usb port is working and the driver for the port is reading the device. However, since there is no disk or software to install, eventuall a Found new hardware bubble reappears saying you a problem was encountered and the hardware was not properly installed. I don't get any farther than that. The device is NEVER listed in My Computer. As indicated before, there is an entry in device manager showing the ipod under other devices with the yellow exclamation point and the detail showing a Code 1 - no driver.

  • 6th Gen Nano not found in windows 7

Ok so i just got a 6th gene iPod nano, i have been trying to set it up, but my computer won't recongize it (windows 7). I have tried everything, i have uninstalled and reinstall itunes, i have done the misconfig, i have reset the ipod, i have used different USB ports, i have used a different computer, i have made another user and tried it there, NOTHING IS WORKING, i've done all the help stuff here on the site that i have found and it just won't be regonized, i'm getting horribly frustrated and would love some help.
My itunes is up to date and there have been a couple times where the set up has almost opened but i never goes past the first text box.

Capturing time is hard.. it is a capsule.. to hold fragments of history rather than a trap to capture time.
The TC uses illegal to the windows world names.. change all names for wireless and TC itself to pure alphanumeric with no spaces.
Open the manual setup .. on the disks page from the top menu..
Make sure you give the Windows WORKGROUP correctly.
I also recommend you turn on guest access.. read and write at least until you sort access.
Update the changes.. in the computer. Open the airport utility again and find what IP is the TC running at. Summary page will give you that.
    In windows explorer type,
    \\TCname
    If that fails type
    \\TCIPaddress
Where TCname is the new name of the TC.. and TCIPaddress is exactly that.. by default 10.0.1.1

  • HT1338 why is my iPod 2nd gen. nano not showing up in list of itunes

Ipod nano will show sync sign for 3 sec then it will disappear and not show up in list for me to sync playlist

Well, after posting that, I decided to try deleting another app that was on the list and then Dropbox suddenly reappeared.  I've seen others say that Open In is limited to 10 apps (which seems lame to me).
The strange thing is on my iPad, I only have 9 apps listed, but my iPhone allows 10. Anyone know why this would be or have a similar issue?  Is there a way to make certain apps default to the Open In... list?

  • 5th Gen iPod and 2nd gen Nano will connect to Mac, not found by iTunes

I bought a brand new MacBook running OSX 10.4.9, and I cannot get my 5th gen iPod video nor my 2nd gen Nano to be recognized by iTunes. The computer recognizes that there are two drives-- they come up on the desktop. But iTunes will not notice them, let alone play music from them. These iPods are mostly used with Windows 2000 PC laptops, and I'm connecting them via USB.
    What should I do?
    Thanks,
    Robert

  • 2nd gen shuffle not working windows 7

I connected my 2nd gen shuffle to my laptop (Windows 7) and it told me I need to restore it, but Itunes keeps crashing every time i tried. I restared my pc, then it stopped showing in Itunes but showed on devices, and was on. Now it does nothing at all, no lights or anything. Any help appreciated

I have two suggestions.  There is an iPod Reset Utility
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1238
that is only for the 1st and 2nd gen shuffle.  It does something like a Restore in iTunes, but works at a "lower" level in cases when a Restore in iTunes does not work (or cannot be used).  For it to work, the shuffle does need to be seen by the system, and it sounds like yours meets that requirement.
Unfortunately, I don't think it works with Windows 7.  If you happen to have an older PC with 32-bit Windows, you can use that PC to run the utility on the shuffle.  Or, maybe you have a friend with a Mac or 32-bit Windows PC that can run it for your.  Or, if you have an Apple Store nearby, you can make a reservation at the Genius Bar and ask them to look at it and run the reset utility.
The second suggestion, if you don't have a convenient way to use the reset utility, is to use Windows to reformat the shuffle's storage like it was a flash drive.  Use a "full" format (not the "quick" option).  Use the "FAT" format type.  Make sure iTunes is NOT running.  After it is reformatted, it will be blank.  When you run iTunes, it should recognize the shuffle and ask you to Restore it (to re-install the software and set it to default settings).  Hopefully, it will work this time.

  • I can't syn my 2nd gen nano work with Windows XP Media Centre Edition (SP2)

I recently got a new computer with Windows XP Media Centre Edition (SP2) and a 2nd gen Nano. I have the latest version of itunes but when I plug in the Nano it won't sync.
The Nano is nowhere to be seen in itunes and shows in My Computer with an exclamation mark over it. The only thing it will do is charge.
The Nano syncs on my sisters computer which has Windows XP (SP1) and other devices work on the USB ports on my computer.
Does anyone have a clue what is wrong or what I can do.
I've had the Nano for nearly four months now and it's driving me mad!!!

    Problem solved:
I used driver guide to download usbstor.sys and usbstor.inf then placed these files in my i386 folder. Then when I restarted my PC and connected my iPod I selected the i386 folder as the location to search for drivers. After that it recognised my iPod as a storage device and installed it.
