Is it possible to transfer songs on iPod to a computer that already has an iTunes profile for someone else? I recently had my laptop stolen so I no longer have iTunes backed up on a computer.

Do you mean you do not have a backup of your stolen computer?

  • Is it possible to transfer songs from ipod to new computer?

I recently bought a new computer and had put the itunes from my old computer onto a hard drive to transfer it over, however it didn't transfer all my songs. Those songs are still on my ipod and I would like to know if it is possible to transfer them from my ipod onto my new computer? PLEASE HELP!!

iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows

iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Transfer songs from ipod to same computer that has been restored

I need to restore my computer to the original way we bought it, which means I will lose all my itunes songs. I've done this before, so I know there is an easy way to use my Ipod to transfer the songs to my restored computer, but its been so long I can't remember and don't want to risk it. Any ideas? Thanks!

Try the instructions from MacMuse on the following link. Once you get everything back, you might want to start a regular backup program for your music so you don't have to worry about this, again. It's also a bad idea to rely on iPod as your sole backup. What if iPod is lost or stolen? What if you have to restore your iPod if it has a problem? I think you see what I mean, so PLEASE BACKUP YOUR MUSIC!

  • HT1420 I want to sell my Mac computer and transfer my itunes to another computer that already has a itunes library. Can I have two separate itunes accounts on one computer?

Also I was wondering how do I clear my computer of all the items like back to factory settings?

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new or different iTunes library, it will erase what is currently on the iPod and replace it with what is in the new library.

  • Transfer songs on iPod to new computer?

I just got a new computer for college. I've already downloaded iTunes onto it, but how do i get the songs from my iPod onto my new computer?

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • Bought new computer, Won't let me transfer songs from Ipod to new computer?

Is this possible? I have several hundred songs on my Ipod/other computer (desktop). I bought a new Dell laptop and I was hoping I could transfer all the songs on my new computer. It did let me transfer the songs that were purchsed through Itunes but not the others that I downloaded from CD's. When I connect the Ipod to the new computer it shows no songs on it.
Can I just connect my laptop to my desktop and tranfer songs or is there a way to trasfer the songs from the Ipod to the new laptop?

The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • Transfer Songs from Ipod to New Computer and New Itunes Installation

    Hi,
I want to transfer songs on my Ipod to a new installation of Itunes on a new computer. I get a message that my Ipod is synced to another library and that I can only be synced to one library and that my ipod will be erased and synced to the currently libary. The problem is my current library is empty since it's a new itunes installtion and I don't want to erase my ipod and delete all my songs.
So how do I transfer songs from my ipod to the new itunes installation on my new computer?
    Thanks for any replies.

I think I've read in a post before that you can't do it that way. That you can only transfer music from the computer to the iPod, and not the other way around. I believe they suggested backing up your library (to disk, I guess) and installing it on the new computer. Something like that. It seems silly that the transfer only works one way, but there you are.

  • Transfer songs from ipod to mac computer

How to transfer songs from a ipod/itouch to a mac computer?

You sync your tunes, right? Those tunes are stored in your iTunes Library.
Or maybe I'm understanding question completely. How did you migrate your tunes in the first place?

  • Want to transfer songs from Ipod to new computer

I want to transfer my songs from my Ipod to another computer but Itunes on the new computer wants to erase my Ipod first. How do I do this? I hate the idea of all my songs being on just one computer. What if the thing starts smoking. I'd hate to have to re-collect over 1000 songs.

Click here and follow the instructions.

how do i transfer an itunes account from one computer to another which already has another account on it which is registered with someone else

There is no account stored on any computer, the library however is stored.
To move the iTunes library from one computer to another, copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from one computer to another.

  • Need to transfer songs on ipod to new computer

I formatted the hard drive and sold my old computer a few months ago. I have a new computer now and need to transfer my ipod songs to this new computer but it's telling me itunes can only be synced with only one computer at a time. I no longer have that old computer so how do I transfer my songs from my ipod to my new laptop. Thanks in advance.

    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535
If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:
    http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=797432
Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.

  • How do I transfer existing ipod playlists that includes my own CD songs from a former computer to a newly authorized computer that ONLY has the iTunes songs I purchased appearing in my library without losing my ipod FULL song lists?

Worried if I sync, I'll loose all the songs on existing ipod that don't appear in new library.  I backed up my former FULL itunes library (purchased songs and my own CD's I burned into library) from old computer to an external hardrive so I have the music files.  Is there a way I can load from external drive former itunes library directly into new itunes library?  THANKS!!!

I just had to do this very thing.  I'm sure there are other ways but IMO the easiest is to haven the old computer set up on the same network as the new computer then turn on home sharing on both computers and move the old library into the NEW computer.  if the old computer is not available anymore you can plug in the external drive and go into itunes and under the file tab there is an option to add to library by file or folder  I f your library is big this can be a tedious process.  Good Lucl
