HT1379 add V memory to an application, Sweet Home 3D

need to add virtual memory to an application for better performance, Sweet Home 3D

Mac OS X does not give, the application takes.  If Sweet Home 3D wants more virtual memory it just allocates it as part of the code.
If the program is a 32-bit program, then it will be limited to 4GB of virtual memory address space, which includes all the program code, libraries, execution stack and the program's data.
If the program is 64-bit, it will be able to use huge amounts of virtual memory.
You can look at Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor -> "Kind" to see if it is "intel (64-bit)".
But there is nothing you can personally do to control the amount of virtual memory a program uses.

OS X moves to virtual memory when you have run out of available RAM.
Virtual Memory is ALWAYS used.  You are thinking paging to disk when there is not enough RAM to hold the entire program and all the other things running on a Mac.
However, if ccoste25 is running out of physical disk space, that might affect the ability to page RAM to disk.
Also if there are lots and lots of programs using lots and lots of virtual memory, Mac OS X may run out of room to maintain virtual page tables and give an error saying not enough space for applciation memory.

  • EMac seems slow - Do I need/can add more memory?

I have an eMac 1GHz PowerPC G4. It's already about 4 years old, so I have collected alot of music, pictures and files. It seems that now it takes a little longer to respond. I constantly get the rainbow swirl thing waiting for files to open. It definitely slows down if I'm running Photoshop or Illustrator AND iTunes at the same time. iTunes seems to be the reason it slows down in general (especially if its iTunes and another application)
I have 768 MB of RAM already (the 256, and a 512). Can I add another 512MB of RAM? Is it necessary and will it help? If I look up the memory usage, it always looks like I have very little available (currently I'm using 87% of my memory and while applications are open, I'm only using FireFox)
Also, I have 47.43GB on the HD available.. Should I invest in an external hard drive?
I'm not sure if this is a memory problem or if I need more HD space..
    Thanks
    Kirsten

Tiger will run quite nicely on a 700 MHz eMac with 640 MB RAM, which suggests a software conflict with an automaticly launching system or user utility. Non-Apple add-ons that put anything in the menubar (e.g., haxies) in particular as likely suspects. If you Start Up in Safe Mode, does the Mac's performance improve noticablly?
As roam noted, using Activity Monitor (as an admin user, show all processes, and sort top-down by %CPU usage) can help identify if some process is eating up clock cycles. For instance, if you have Classic running in the background with an extensive Extensions Manager set open, you may see TrueBlueEnviron in the Activity Monitor running at 80% of CPU usage (in which case, use Extensions Manager in Classic to turn on only the absolute minimum of extensions you need, rebuild the Classic desktop, and close Classic when not in use).
Check your third-party software add-ons (items that appear under the "Other" heading in System Preferences when using View by Categories). Check the publisher and/or Version Tracker or MacUpdate for Tiger-compatible updates. Try disabling startup items temporarily (move to a holding folder and restart) and see if that improves performance.
Try creating a troubleshooting-only admin user account with no add-ons and see if that runs faster; if so, that points to something inside your normal user account's Home folder. Use Preferential Treatment to check if your normal user preferences are damaged.
If the new account is also slow, look at the System and Library folders at the root level of the hard drive, checking e.g. /Library/StartupItems and /Library/PreferencePanes.

  • How can I add more memory to my iPad?

How can I add more memory to my iPad?

Memory refers to RAM, and can't be increased.
I asume you mean storege space (like 16GB, 32GB, etc). It also can't be increased.
There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.
    Another option:
Expand your iPad's storage capacity with HyperDrive

  • How do I add more Memory to the 2 open slots in my iMac - it is 4GB now

How do I add more Memory to the 2 open slots in my iMac ???  It is 4GB now and I get the spinning beach ball often when several Apps are running.
Does the Apple Store sell and install???
Please advise if you have upgraded your iMac memory

Go to a website such as OWC or Crucial's, determine which type of RAM your computer needs, and buy it from that site. They provide installation instructions on the site.

  • Can i add more memory to my macbook pro?

It currently has 4 GB installed. Can I add more memory?

Which model MBP do you have? 15" late 2011, for example.
Go to the Crucial website and use the System Scanner tab to determine which upgrades are available for your model - you don't have to buy from Crucial, but they do offer some of the best RAM for Macs available.
    Good luck,

  • How do I add more memory to my internet settings on a Mac G4?

    Imac   Mac OS 9.2.x
Recently, I have been getting an error message when going to certain internet sites (for instance, the Jamiroquai.com site) and the message states "there is not enough memory to open "Shockwave" adding additional memory to the internet may help."
How do I go about this? Dumb question I know, but I am not very computer savvy and would appreciate any help.

    Hi, Hobo -
It's easy to do. This Apple KBase article describes the procedure -
Article #18278 - Assigning More Memory to an Application
Adding 20 or 30 thousand to a browser's original Preferred amount is not excessive; if you have sufficient RAM to support it, more is better.
Repeating some info from the article -
    • The program must be Quit before you can change the allocation.
    • The Get Info must be done on the icon of the program itself, not on an alias to it nor on the icon of the folder it is in.
If you use an alias (such as one on the desktop) to run the browser, a quick way to get to the program itself is to select the alias (click on it once), then press Command-R (or choose 'Show Original' from the File menu). The folder containing the program will open directly (no matter how deeply it may be buried) and the program will be highlighted, ready to do a Get Info on it.

  • How do I add more memory to my Imac, I only have 1GB of memory and need 2GB to download Yosemite!

How do I add more memory to my Imac, I only have 1GB of memory and need 2GB to download Yosemite?

    Janet,
This is why the question rkaufmann87 asked about your model is so important:
[click chart to enlarge if needed]
The list covers the early iMacs with Intel processors that shipped with either OS 10.4 or 10.5 and have only two RAM slots. As you can see, some have limits to what version of OSX you can install. If the step rkaufmann requests does not narrow down your model, you can do one more thing.
While the "About this Mac" window is open, click the "More Info..." button at the bottom of that window to get this (assuming you are really running OS 10.5.8 as shown in your profile):
The code I've indicated with the red arrow corresponds to the codes in the second column on the chart. Post the code your computer reports--again don't post a serial number.
If your iMac shipped with only 1GB RAM, I fear it is one of the earliest models that cannot be upgraded all the way to Yosemite.

  • Add Button to GUI STATUS Application toolbar

    Hi,
I have to add a button in the application toolbar of a gui status. I have done that many times before, but I never got into trouble like this time....
When I open the Gui status and the tree for the application toolbar, I can see already set buttons. When I now click on change (a modification warning comes) and press the plus-icon, it is possible to enter a new item. But everything I´m typing, I get the message Function code XXXX has not been assigned to a function key. I have never got this before....
When I now go to SE41 and enter a new function key, I can´t use it either afterwards as a button in the application toolbar.
In the tree of the function keys, I can´t change anything...
What can I do here? The program name is SAPMZLCG, so it has been modified sometimes. But how can I change the GUI STATUS now to add a new button?
    Thank you!

You need to goto the application toolbar and the add your text to the items and click below the text you will get one popup which will ask for static text and dynamic text. select statictext and then add all the information like text name and if you want to add an icon you can do it aswell. the there will be another popup for fuction attributes where you will be able to find some options loke fuction types and reaction need to select all that and then click on the ok button and save check and activate the same and after that activate and check whether the button is visible or not. once the button is visible then you need to check for the ok_code and sy_ucomm and then insert the fuctionality of the button.
I hope this might solve your problem.

Actually, you have a Late 2006 model iMac that can use a Maximum of 3 GB of RAM.  See the link below.  So you can use a 1 GB and a 2GB modules.
