HT1379 iLife problems

iPhoto not showing up in Photo to Movie's browser, same goes for iTunes?
Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, yes iTunes and iPhoto show up in iMovies browser.
I will add that I am running both iTunes and iPhoto on separate volumns than the Photo to Movie application.
I have imported some test pics into the default iPhoto library on the same volumn and they show up. Not tried iTunes yet but I will soon.

  • Macbook Pro - wipe for sale but ilife problem!!

    Hi
I need to sell my Macbook Pro that came with preinstalled Mountain Lion and iLife. Found how to do it as a clean reinstall but whoever buy it will need to install iLife back on. How does it work?I dont want to do it as I do not wish to use my apple id for security reasons of course. Will others be able to download it for free after putting their apple id or?Or maybe i can do it without using my own apple ID?Please help
    thanx
    karina

When you set your MacBook Pro fro the first time, OS X, iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand were registered to your Apple ID. If you sell your Mac now, the new owner won't be able to reinstall them as they are registered to your Apple ID.
To prevent this, call Apple to deauthorize your MacBook from your Apple ID > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 After doing this, you can sell your MacBook Pro, and when the new owner opens the Mac App Store, he/she will be prompted in Purchases to download these applications

  • ILife problem???

Well, we did it! We upragded from our ibook G4 to a macbook pro and successfully transfered all the info to the new mac. But now some of the iLife applications (ie iTunes, iPhoto etc) won't open and says we need the updated versions! I thought the new macbooks come with all the newer versions and they are compatible with the older ones? Do I need to actually put in the OSX disc and get the new versions off of it? Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
...oh by the way, we were going to hand the G4 down to my parents and I heard there is a battery recall of some sort. What is the deal with that?
    --Matt

    Hi Matt,
Have you run Sofware Update on the new MBP? Your iBook probably was up to date, so the transfered infrmation will only run on the same version.

  • My Snow Leopard Fix...Thought we lost everything!

    Ok, here's the background post:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2143287&tstart=285
OK, so we started off calling Apple. They said erase everything. Not an option for us....the machine had too much important data on it.
So, I purchased a 500 gig external drive, partitioned it, did a clean install of SL on it through the black macbook, and then booted from the external drive. From there we could access all my girlfriends files and transfer them to the external drive. We had our data back! From there we erased the macbook's hard drive, did a clean install of SL, and then proceeded to put all of her files back on.
Then, we ran into the iLife problem. Snow Leopard doesn't contain the iLife apps. So we recovered her bundled install discs that came with her mac, and chose "install bundled software." That took care of the iLife apps. Finally, everything was looking good.
We're installing Microsoft Office 2008 now and updating it. It's getting back to they way it was before this "simple upgrade to Snow Leopard." If there's one piece of advice I can give anyone, it's BACK UP EVERYTHING before installing SL, and an external drive is worth it's weight in gold, especially if you've got very important data.
The funniest part; Apple told us everything was lost and there was NO fix. I'm not a computer tech, and I only switched to mac two years ago, and we figured it out just fine. And so far SL is running fine on both mine and my girlfriends macbooks.
    Don't give up!
    R!

It does. You can back-up to a Time Capsule; a hard drive on another Mac running Leopard or Snow on the same local network; and, probably, a USB drive attached to an Airport Extreme (although that's technically unsupported, it works fine in most cases.

  • MacBook Air upgraded to Mavericks. I'm left with a spinning circle.  What next?

I upgraded to Mavericks last night and my computer won't launch. I'm left with a spinning circle with my desktop graphic behind a white box that has back greyed out and the  continue circle with forward arrow that does nothing.  A spinning circle in the middle is all I see.  What to do now?

I'd just hold down the power button unitl it shuts down. Restart and see if it actually gets through the setup routine.
If not, shut down again and when you restart, hold down cmd-opt-p-r right after the startup tone. keep holding down until you get the tone two more times, then let it restart normally. That resets NVRAM.

If problems again, restart holding down the shift key which will start up in Safe Mode.

  • Volume level control gets stuck...

I keep getting this quirky thing where my volume level gets stuck. I press the volume buttons and the level indicator changes, and the sound can mute, but the volume doesn't actually change. It seems to stick at around 25%.
My workaround is to open the Sound options in the *System Preferences* and switch from *Internal Speakers* back to *Line Out*. This is on a Mac Pro, by the way.
The problem seems to occur when waking from sleep state, but it doesn't happen every time. I almost feel like it has something to do with the duration of sleep, but I'm really not certain. It's quite a small problem, but I'd still like to see if anybody else has been experienced it.

    HI Devin,
    Try resetting the PRAM/NVRAM.

  • Imovie application quits when trying to add audio

when trying to drag audio into imovie, application automatically quits. If anyone can help, it's greatly appreciated.

I'm running out of ideas but I assume the music plays in iTunes and your iTunes is the iLife5 rather than earlier. When you click on audio at the clips pane (or whatever it is called) I presume you can access the full iTunes library. If you cannot, you have an iLife problem. Then does the crash come from all your tunes.
Before all this you could run Mac Sweeper which you will find (free download) on http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Mac-Sweeper.shtml
    it has good help messages.
    1) Carry out all the optimize options the daily weekly and monthly
    2) Repair permissions
    3) Update prebindings
    4) under
    b clean,
empty system caches and log files.
Some people find its authorize dialogue misleading it is just asking you to enter the system password to allow it to perform the scripts.

  • Free iLife Apps Problem?

Ok so I bought my iPod Touch 5g on September 11, 2013 brand new.  When Apple announced there giving away of iLife apps if you buy a new Apple product, I checked the app store to see if they were free.  They were free....i was very excited.  Since then my iPod had a hardware problem and I exchanged it for a refurbished one today.  When I went back to see if they were free today, they were not.  Is there any way Apple can give them to me for free if I have my original receipt.  I really want these apps and am dissapointed that they are no longer free. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried redownloading them by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If you can't then contact iTunes:

Well, my two-month-old MBP has no qualms about booting from a no-name external USB HD I put together...
Given that is is a common point of failure, I would imagine a large Apple Store should keep a stock of HD's on hand.
Now since you're a bit desperate and the genie pops up til Saturday and you seem to be the enterprising kind, let's try an experiment: if you have room enough in the external HD and assuming it isn't a Time Machine volume, why don't you plug it in, stick the Install CD and see if the installer lets you select the external drive as the install target. If you can install Leopard on it, on top of the backup without reformatting, and the Mac can boot from the drive afterwards, at least you would have some functionality restored and would be able to pull your stuff from the internal HD. Apple says booting from USB drives is not supported but that does not equate to not possible; some brands do work. Risks? Always. You can always lose your backup. Like I said, a challenge for an enterprising gal....
Next time around, consider having a bootable external clone at hand for rainy days. I keep three myself...
P.S. Since I'll be in the Dallas-FW area in late June, I can volunteer with the confetti....

  • Font problems in Office 2008 and iLife 2009

I've been using a Mac for years, and have never had so many problems before. I'm am currently running Mac OS X 10.6.2 on a 2006 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook. I recently did the 6.2 update last night, as I was hoping it would solve problems that I had been having. It actually made it worse.
Whenever I try to start up either Word or Powerpoint in Office 2008, the "Optimizing font performance" text pops up on the Word/Powerpoint startup window, taking around 30 seconds to a minute to fully load the program, while the beachball spins away (I have 600+ fonts, but it still shouldn't do this). I've Googled this problem before, and came up with the solution to uncheck "WYSIWYG font and style menus" in the Word preferences menu. However, with the update last night, it's gone back to the "Optimizing font performance" text every time I start up the program.
I've even gone as far to clean up the font cache in Onyx, repair permissions in Disk Utility, repair any problem fonts, fix duplicates of fonts, and even go into the Office Library folders and delete the font caches by hand (as recommended by Microsoft).
Also, I've just started having problems with iLife, including Pages. Whenever I try to open a new blank document or saved document, Pages freezes up, and I have to force quit. When I look into my processes (using iStat Nano), the font cache is running at 90% or higher.
I'm very confused and not sure what to do next besides backing up my data and reinstalling Snow Leopard altogether. A HUGE thanks to anyone that can help me!

"Optimizing font performance" text pops up on the Word/Powerpoint startup window ... (I have 600+ fonts, but it still shouldn't do this)
It shouldn't take quite that long, but that still is a lot of fonts to have open at once.
It seems to have worked for Word, but trying to open a blank document in Pages causes it to crash. Keynote opens a blank or template-based document, but as soon as I try to click to edit text, it crashes.
Office and Pages/Keynote are completely unrelated to each other, vendor wise. Something is going on at the OS level to affect multiple apps from both Apple and Microsoft.
It may not be as simple as this, but try removing all font cache data from your Mac. Download the Snow Leopard version of OnyX. Click the Cleaning heading and then the Fonts tab. Check all items (except Gimp if you're not using that), then click Execute. When it's done clearing the cache files from the system, it will tell you to restart. Do not skip that step!
After the Mac restarts, check to make sure OnyX has removed the Office cache files. Close all Office applications. Remove the following files. The tilde (~) indicates your home account.
    ~/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.browserfont.cache
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office Font Cache (11)
For Office 2008, the location of the second item is:
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Office Font Cache (12)

  • Does iLife '06 fix double thumbnail and crashing problem of iPhoto '05??

I had nothing but trouble when I upgraded iLife last year from '04 to '05 - I have hated iPhoto ever since. After all the help from this sight, including un-installing and re-installing '05, I still have problems.
Does anyone know if '06 is any better???? I am hoping it will solve all my problems.

    Melinda:
Do your exported files contain a jpg extension? If so, select one and bring up the Info window, Command-I. In that window select Preview as the default application for that file and click on the Apply to all button. Now see if the exported files will open with Preview or other image viewing applications.

  • Problems in iPhoto since trying to upgrade to ilife 11

I see many posts on this and have tried some solutions - increasingly concerned.
I have a 2009 macbook pro and was happily using iphoto 09 (8.1.2). Then a while back I thought I would upgrade to ilife 11 and during the upgrade struck the problem that access to photos/teasers seems to scarily disappear. I've searched all forums and saw to go back to rhe previous app. This worked and photos still appear to be there in 8.1.2.
But now I have a new imac (arrived yesterday) and hope to be able to work out how to move photos into latest iphoto. I've tried migration assistant which is not working for some reason.
I  tried to drag my library from a hard drive (formatted from a mac) into new iphoto app (same issue- no teasers).
I have also copied my library from a hard drive time machine back up into my new system Documents file (I have not found Pictures folder yet..) and run through all the repair options when you open iphoto with Command/options even rebuiliding the database. No luck! It says there are 26,000 item (which is correct - taken over approx 10 years) and after all of this the photos improved a little by showing up for a short while and then disappearing (I have seen this in the forums) or being stretched or blurry! But maybe I am missing some database?
Not sure what to do next except transfer previous iphoto app to new imac and keep going with that or create an old and new library with different apps. All photos and iphoto 09 (8.1.2) are still working on older laptop and I have two time machine backups + back ups of original files by title and file name and am considering a third!
Can I transfer original files and reorganise them into folders etc..? Guess I lose my books etc..
Any suggestions.. ? Can it be the photos have the same filenames (I am not a good filer) and this is causing an issue - I have removed all photos that were not opening in previous app and all videos. I've tried to weed out duplicates. It does seem that those taken on ipad or iphone do show up in new iphoto even if others do not.
I will say - I don't spend much time in the forums so did just expect iLife 11 to magically work.. Makes me want to print books immediately as a back up (could be expensive!)
Anyway - appreciate any assistance.  kealld

    What are "teasers"?
I  tried to drag my library from a hard drive (formatted from a mac) into new iphoto app
Never do that. That will import one Library to another and cause a mess you don't want -  a really big mess.
    To move an iPhoto LIbrary:
Drag it to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine. Then Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and open it. That's all.

  • ILife 08- problem with Podcast and Blog links on landing page

Hello I have iLife 08, running OS 10.4.11. The Podcast and Blog links on my iWeb landing page appear but don't do anything. All was working fine one week ago. They load, and when you mouse over it the links looks like they are going to work but don't.
Any ideas on what the problem is?
thanks in advance for your time,
    -g-

    Hi Chad,
Yes. I had a similar problem. The 1st click on an iTunes hyperlink (i.e. http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=97154883 ) occasionally does nothing for me in Safari. And as you described, the 2nd click usually works. I actually didn't notice the Safari window containing the link closing itself. I'll keep an eye out for that.
I'm running iTunes 6.0.2 with 2.0.3. See if running an update changes anything for you.

  • ILife broken! All started with iMovie problem, any ideas?

I have posted in the iMovie 6HD forums about a problem of it slowing down to a crawl and no one has been able to resolve that issue. I spoke to several employees at the Apple store about the problem & they ran it past a 'Genius' who didn't suggested reinstalling the entire iLife suite.
I did that yesterday and now none of the iLife suite will even open. When you click the dock there is 1 bounce and nothing happens. Dbl click the icon in the finder, it acts like its opening, but nothing happens. What went wrong? I've never had Apple software ever act this way.
I reinstalled the iLife software twice to no avail. Please help!
    Thanks,
    Mark

Did you run the suggested 3-pass Memtest? What did it report? What did the AHT say? If you believe that the hardware is OK, then it is a software issue. If so, and you have done a clean install from the ground up... things are indeed looking bad for you.
I would first run the 3-pass Memtest in single user mode as the instructions outline. This test alone will take several hours... unless your "lucky" enough to have an easily identifiable bad memory block. After that, and assuming the AHT passed everything it is now time to start from scratch. Install the OS and nothing but the OS. Do a clean install, not an archive and install (again, make sure everything is backed up to another drive). Take the new install out for a spin- does everything seem OK? Then start installing apps one at a time. If the iLife apps are your main apps, install them, run all the updates, and then repair permissions. Now how are the iLife apps responding (if at all)? If installing JUST the iLife apps on a clean install of the OS doesn't work, there is a high probability of a hardware problem which means now a technician would need diagnose the hardware problem. If the iLife apps work without any other software installed, then there is a high probability there is a software conflict with another program. Now it is time to install one program at a time trying out the iLife (iMovie) apps until you see which program is causing the conflict.

  • Problems installing updates to all of ilife 08

I am having major problems installing updates to all of ilife 08. The updater recognises & downoads the updates, but after completeing the download reports an 'unexpected error'. This has been happening for weeks?

    Saundg:
Can you give us some more info on your setup: system version, Quicktime version, iPhoto version currently running and the other iApps? Have you run Disk Utility to repair disk permissions and to verify the disk (and make any fixes that are reported needing fixed)?
You might try downloading the individual updater files from Apple's Downloads page and run locally.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
