HT1386 How do to avoid duplication of contacts when syncing over I cloud with iPad and also on iTunes with a PC?
I sync my iPhone with a MAC, an iPad and a PC (contacts and calendar). Some contacts are getting duplicated in the proces. Is there a way to avoid this duplication?

My Exchange account is my default.
I've also installed the iCloud app on my Windows machine running W8 and Outlook 2013 where my Exchange account runs on.You would have to export your contacts from Exchange and import them into iCloud somehow. I have to admit I don't know of an easy way to do this but maybe one of the other volunteers here will know how to do it.

Why do I lose some of my contacts when syncing my iPhone 4 with my MacBook Pro?
If I connect my iPhone 4 to my MacBook Pro using the lead a few of the contacts on my phone are wiped, but not on my MacBook. Text messages etc are still on there but it just states the number it came from not the person's name. Why does it do this? Why does it only happen to a few numbers? What do I do to stop it?!

On your Mac, for duplicates, switching Contacts off then back on in System Preferences > iCloud may prevent duplicates.
On the iPhone / iPad tap Settings > iCloud. Make sure Contacts and Calendars are swtiched on.
Try restarting your Mac and your iOS devices when items won't sync as they should.
To restart an iOS device: Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears. -

Hi - Thanks for your response. I have tried to find the answer in the manual, but cannot locate the exact solution.
Do I have to sync with iTunes? Does the iPhone just learn the addresses as I use it for email? I'm confused because the "My Contacts" list that was transferred using VZ Contact Transfer is for cell phone numbers, not email addresses. But on my MacBook Pro I have "Address Book" with email addresses - that's what I want to transfer. I'm a beginner with the iPhone - had a little basic flip-top LG for years. What a difference!! -

On the mac, only contacts in the "iCloud" section will sync to other devices. Those in the "On my mac" section do not. Could that be your problem?
To test the icloud situation, log into icloud.com with your mac's safari and to to the contacts page. What you see there is what icloud has received from mac and iphone. -

Overwrote (full) iPod contacts with Laptop Contacts when syncing in iTunes. Can I get old (full) contacts back?
Bakstory: Laptop crashed, got restored, but without contacts. Mistakenly thought I could upload them from my iPod. I hit sync. Big mistake. When I disconnected, I saw my iPod has the measley 4 contacts I DID have on my laptop after the crash, instead of the hundreds I had on the iPod just minutes before.
Note: There is nothing in the desktop Trashcan that says "contacts."
I also tried to post this question in the iTunes section, but for some reason I can't seem to post there.

(Man, everyone agrees this is a design flaw--in how you share info from iPod to CPU and can easily overwrite things you don't want to. They should fix that.)Yes, you can do that.
On the computer that you only want to sync contacts & calendars to just unselect content like music, photos, apps, etc.
You can only sync content like music with one computer at a time, content like contacts with as many as you like.
Before you sync your contacts & calendar with the laptop, make sure you have one entry in address book & ical, select merge at the prompt, do not select replace.
Make sure you disable auto sync when a ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes. -

delete off any apps that are asking for the wrong apple id and download/sync them over from the correct one

You need your password to delete it and I need the email address to reset the password. I feel like I'm going in circles!!! Please help!!!Go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address (you shouldn't need to verify the old account). You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
