Either backup the contacts in iCloud or with a compatible programme on your computer (Outlook, Windows Contacts, Address Book etc).
Once done, sync the contacts to your new iPhone from that programme/iCloud.

There could is likely a compatibility problem between the old software and the newer operating system.

Pictures are held in the iPhone backup. If you backup the old device just prior to the activation of the new one, then restore from that backup, the photos will be there. Music is in iTunes on the computer and when you do the restore, it will download the music from iTunes to the device during the restore. Make sure any music purchased on the iPhone that has not been transfered to iTunes on the computer is done before beginning the restore.

To effectively transfer ownership of the iPhone requires that it be "restored" as a new device.

The iPhone is not a backup device. Your computer backs up the iPhone, not the other way around. What you use to back up your computer is up to you - Macs use Time Machine. I assume PCs use something similar.
If her PC backup is dead you will have difficulty extracting content from the iPhone since it is not designed to work that way.
All her Apple purchases can easily be transferred to another iPhone. However, her contacts will be gone, as will any music or other contact obtained from sources other than Apple.
There are a number of third party utilities that claim to be able to extract content from an iPhone. See wjosten's procedure here:

First of all make sure that you've definitely backed up the movies to your external hard disc.
In iMovie click on any event you don't want, go to the file menu and select 'move event to trash'. Then do the same for any unwanted projects - 'move project to trash'. Quit out of iMovie and empty the trash.

If you have a pc, when you plug your iPad in you should see the windows pop up window offering to backup the photos. Do that and it will save all your photos and videos to your computer where you can then sync them back to your new one.
If the pop up doesn't come up, double click on my computer and navigate your way to the iPad. Double cick on it an d navigate to the DCIM folder. Drag your photos and videos to your pc, then sync them back onto your iPad.

Resetting User Password in Lion and Mountain Lion
Boot into your Recovery Partition by holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting.
When the Recovery screen appears, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
In Terminal, type:
resetpassword
...a small app will open and allow you to choose the user for whom you want to change the password. If you are the admin, be certain that you choose your admin user. Type in your new password twice and give yourself a good hint. Click OK (or Done or whatever) and reboot, enjoying the use of your new, hopefully memorable, password.

I completely understand what you are trying to say. Regardless of what YOU are saying are facts, its my device. YOU don't know what glitches, issues or age defined viruses may take place on my device. Anything is possible. YOU may think you're an expert but i'm positive that you haven't seen everything. On the other hand I full-heartedly appreciate your help in telling me I can never get my data back. Im sure you know a lot about apple and can help many others that need help (no sarcasm at all). How do I get my iTunes and for that matter iPhoto libraries from my old mac 15" Tetherball iMac running OS 10.4.11 iTunes ver. 9.0.2 to my new iMac running 10.6.2 but also using iTunes ver. 9.0.2? I used the migration assistant, and a firewire cable, to move my "Music" folder to the new mac, but it insisted that I create a new user on the new mac for the data, rather than giving me a choice to move it into my user account. Also, based on some info from The Missing Manual and the Take Control books I created a separate user that is not an Administrator on the computer to be my primary login. When I simply tried to copy the music folder - iTunes failed to open. And because I am not an admin I can't access the new folder to copy it while I am in my non-admin user on the new computer. I have looked through as many of the posts as I could wade through and didn't see anything quite as simple as I think my problem is. Thanks, in advance.

Did you use Migration Assistant to move all you contents or did you create a new account on the new Mac before transferring?
I had a similar problem when I got my MBP as I created an account on the new Mac at the store to confirm that the MBP was ok. Mistake. I got how home and had loads of issues so I ended up reinstalling the system on the new MBP and using Migration Assistant to move ALL my stuff from the old to the new.
Another choice is to clone your old Mac to an ext HD then swap that cloned HD with the HD in your new Mac.
Regardless of which way you go make sure you de-authorize your old Mac before getting rid of it.

If you go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup, you will see an option title "iCloud Backup". Turn it on. Allow the backup to complete on your old device.
When setting up your new device, you will be asked if you want to set up your device as a new device, or restore from a backup. Choose that you want to restore from an iCloud backup, and choose the backup with the name of your old phone. It may take several minutes to several hours (depending on the amount of data backed up and the speed of your internet connection) to restore your data, but it will restore all of your iCloud data, as well as your apps and photos.
