HT1386 IPod Nano syncing to new MacBook Air

Can I sync my iPod nano, which was previously connected to my PC, to my new MacBook Air?  If so, how?  Though I've downloaded the latest ITunes software, there is no option to sync with my IPod.  My device isn't even listed.

There certainly is an ipod nano forum

I am trying to sync my new MacBook Air iCal with my iMac calendar.  It will synce with MobileMe calendar on the iMac, but I can't get rid of iCal on the iMac and this one keeps coming up with an error message.

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

  • Syncing help please for iPad 2 and iPod Touch 4g on new Macbook Air

    Hello,
My name Christine Bergeron and i'm 14 years old i just got the iPad 2. I also just recently got the new MacBook Air 13-inch about a week and a half ago- two weeks. I tried syncing my iPod Touch 4g to my laptop but only 3 apps come up out of like 80 something and when i try to sync them it says it will replace the apps on my laptop (the 3 apps) with those 3. i'm also trying to do the same with my iPad but i don't want to loose everything. iTunes also downloads like half of my music and i don't know how to get the rest. Help!!!!
    Thanks,
    Christine Bergeron

  • Syncing an Ipod nano to a new Macbook

I'm still new to Apple products so i need advice. I bought my Ipod nano (gen 5) last year and was using it on a Windows PC but we had to restart our computer and i'd heard a rumour that your ipod is completely wiped out when it connects to macs. Is that true? Or is it perfectly fine to sync my new macbook pro to my ipod?

It will only be wiped you allow iTunes to do so.  What you'll want to do is copy the content from your Nano to your new Mac first.  Then wipe it and sync all your content back over to it.  See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to copy music and content from your iPod over to your Mac.

  • How to sync on new MacBook Air with 'dead' Windows notebook?

    Hi dear all,
I’m in need of some good advice and assistance on the following.
Basically I just switched over to a MacBook Air from an IBM Thinkpad as it went ‘dead’.
My iPad and iPhone are sync via iTunes on the Thinkpad. Now I have a challenge, I understand if I just sync with iTunes on my new MacBook Air, it may just wipe out everything on my iPad and iPhone.
May I know are there any ways I can keep everything in my current iPad and iPhone and still able to create and sync with iTunes on my new MacBook Air e.g. in future still can add files, perform sync etc. I don’t wish to lose all the current files and contents in my iPad and iPhone.
    Thanks.

    Hi ..
As long as you are using the same Apple ID used on iTunes on the PC, you won't lose any content.
You will need to authorize the new MB Air.
Launch iTunes. From the iTunes menu bar click Store > Authorize this Computer

  • Ipod classic sync to new macbook pro

    Hi,
I bought a new ipod classic and did use it on my old PC but now have a new macbook pro.  What, if anything, should I do when I attach my new ipod to the new computer??
    Thanks

    Doris,
Your iPod can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time.  If you try to sync it to a new computer/iTunes library the process will erase what is currently on the iPod and replace it with the content that is now in your new iTunes library.  If possible, copy your entire iTunes library from your PC to your Mac first.  Here are a few ways to do it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
One way to do it is to use your iPod Classic as an external hard drive and copy it that way.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329
Otherwise, you'll need to use one of the methods described in this Apple support document to copy content from your iPod back to your Mac.

  • How do i transfer nano playlist to new macbook air

old nano, new macbook and playlist/music wont sync

If both versions of iPhoto will be the same, this is the easiest way as sig has said. There is also an export feature. I use the export feature to save separate copies of my library as regular files (not within the iPhoto library).
You could also export, then save to a folder (using events as sub-folders). Then drop those into your new iPhoto library and it would put them back in their proper place. However, you could lose some META data that way, but in my experience I've not lost anything significant, really only the key photo has to be set again. I had a very out of control iPhoto library once, and this saved me a bunch of space.
Also, there is an app JPEGmini which I used to save a bunch of GBs of data. I exported, ran them through this app, which can reduce file size by as much as 40-50% while still retaining image quality. I had to try it to believe it, but it was amazing. Then I put them back in iPhoto and now my library is fast.
But simply moving the library will work. Just make sure both versions of iPhoto are the same, then you don't have to upgrade the library where things can happen.

  • Will lightning connector sync ipod classic to new macbook air

I am using 30 pin usb 1 connector with 5th grn ipod classic to sync with new macbook air, but computer rejects ipod connection with explanation usb 1 does not sufficient power to sync wih macbook. thanks in advance

Thanks. You are right, I was following the wrong trail. The problem was not with the connector but with the disorganized state of my music files, with duplicate and overlapping files of the same name, etc., following a move of the files to an external hard drive, and  the the acquisition of a new MacBook Air. No wonder the iPod didn't know what to connect to. But both answers clarified my thinking. It won't be a quick fix, but hopefully it will be a success one.

  • I can't sync my iPod Touch with my new Macbook.

I'm having trouble syncing my iPod touch with my new Macbook Air and I don't know what to do. I've managed to get all my music and films etc. off my old iTunes library but when I plug my iPod into the computer, it doesn't come up with the typical 'erase/replace or transfer' message that you get when you plug it into other computers. Someone please help because it is driving me insane. The iPod was originally synced with a Windows computer and I think this might be what is causing my problem but I really need help fixing it. Thanks!

Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to new computer.

    What does happen?

  • My ipod nano is recognised by my new MacBook Air, and even transferred purchases from it, but it won't synch?

My old ipod nano is recognised by my new MacBook Air, and even transferred purchases from it, but it won't synch?
When I linked it it used the name I had given the ipod so it seems strange that it won't synch even though it is definitely connected.

    See if this helps:

  • HT1345 i have a new macbook air, can i now sync my iPod classic with iTunes on my new computer instead of the Dell I was synching with before?

Hi  I have just aquired a new MacBook Air and I want to stop using my old Dell laptop as my itunes synch with my ipod.  Can I now sync the Ipod with the itunes account on my new Macbook?  I am worried it will take hours to synch if I choose the erase and synch option?

Is all the content from your iTunes library on the old Dell laptop now on your MacBook air?  If you copied the entire iTunes folder and copied it over the existing iTunes folder, your iPod will still think it is being synced to the same iTunes library and there would be no need to do an erase and sync.

  • TS4006 my iCal in my new MacBook Air doesn't sync with the iCal data in my iPad despite having it "checked" (ON) in the system preferences iCloud. what else do i have to do to activate the iCal and have sync with my iPad?

    Issue: iCal
I can't sync the iCal in my new MacBook Air with the existing iCal in my iPad. I went to system preferences (settings) to iCloud and checked the iCal to enable it to sync to my existing iPad iCal. Still nothing happened. It's strange because i successfully synced my contacts doing the same thing. Is there anything I have to have my iCal activated in my new MacBook Air?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

  • I am unable to sync my iPad with my new MacBook Air without losing all photos even though both are linked to the same iTunes account

I am unable to sync my iPad with my new MacBook Air without losing all photos even though both are linked to the same iTunes account

Transferring photos from your computer has nothing to do with your iTunes account/Apple ID.
Photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring photos from another, all photos on the iPad that were transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPad first - even if the photos were transferred from the old or different computer to the new computer being used for syncing.
When transferring photos from your computer, what is named the iPod Photo Cache is created on your computer for the photos that are transferred and why you see new photos being transferres are optimized before the actual transfer process. The iPod Photo Cache for these photos on the computer the photos were transferred from is not available on your new computer.
Since all photos on your iPad that were transferred from the old or different computer should remain on that computer, transfer the photos from that computer to your new computer. These photos on your iPad will be erased with the first sync but will be re-transferred along with a new iPod Photo Cache for these photos being created on your new computer.
