  • TS2776 My new ipad is not showing as a device when i log into itunes why is this?

Just bought a new ipad when plugging into my laptop and opening itunes it is not showing as a device why is this?

You do see the devices heading on the left sidebar? If you don't see the sidebar, go to View>Show sidebar in the iTunes menu and then check to see if the device appears.
If that isn't the problem, go through the troubleshooting steps. It could be the Apple Mobile Device Service issue.

  • HT1386 I connected my ipad to my Pro and my ipad is not showing up under devices on the left hand side of itunes.

I need to know how to update my ipad 2 to ios 5.  When I plugged it into my laptop (pro) my ipad didn't show up in itunes under devices.

    Try here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
If you have Snow Leopard do not forget the Additional Information paragraph.

  • IPad does not show in iTunes devices

I wanted to install iOS 4.2 but cannot get my iPad recognized on iTunes.
When I plugged the iPad into the MBP I get an OK tone as usual.
It has been connected successfully in the past.
I have restarted both my MacBook Pro and iTunes in different orders.
My AppleTV shows up on devices every time.

I have tried everything and still iTunes will not recognize the iPad. From the other complaints it seems this is a big problem for many of us.
My problems started when the iTunes v10 was introduced. I still use 9.2.1. I am waiting because I have an AppleTV1 and wanted to see how it effects others with the first version. I really like my older AppleTV and have many items loaded.

  • IPad does not show up in devices under itunes, cannot synch

The initial time I plug my mom's iPad into her laptop her iTunes does not auto launch like it should, so if I launch it, it doesn't show me devices so I cannot mannually start to synch.  Help!

Two things: if Preferences have been changed in iTunes to not sync automatically upon connecting the iPad then iTunes will/should not launch. You have to do it manually. I suspect the setting is not the problem so see here-
    1. Make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
    2. Try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
    3. Make sure your lead /connections are not faulty.
    4. If you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
    5. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
    6. If using Widows, make sure all Windows Updates are installed.
    7. Failing all that, see here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 for Windows and http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 for Macs
    8. And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -

  • My ipad does not show in itunes devices again i keep having to reinstall itunes, my ipad does not show in itunes devices again i keep having to reinstall itunes

I keep fixing this problem and it keeps returning. It happened to ipod touch also.  Batteries are charged.  10.2.2.14 itunes

It may have something to do with a conflict with any antivirus or security software that you may be running. I don't know if you've read this, but here is Apple's support article for Windows. You say you keep fixing the problem - I assume you mean by reinstalling iTunes?

    Hi lindaasw,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Do you have the latest version of iTunes for Windows installed?  I would turn on the sidebar and the menu bar just to make sure you are seeing everything.  If the iPhone is still not recognized in iTunes, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  • I've just found that three movies I've bought from iTunes on on my iPad are not showing up on Apple TV or anywhere other than that iPad.  What's up with that and will I lose these films if I reset this iPad?

I've just found that three movies I've bought from iTunes on on my iPad are not showing up on Apple TV or anywhere other than that iPad.  What's up with that and will I lose these films if I reset this iPad?

Thanks.  The reason this has become an issue is that I recently bought a new Macbook Air that the iPad is not synced to.  The one is was synced to was stolen.  If I want to sync this iPad to the new Air, won't it be wiped before I'm able to copy these films or am I wrong about that?

  • I connect my iPad to my PC and open iTunes, but the iPad does not show up in sidebar.  I want to sync. How do I do it?

I have my PC on, then plug in my iPad (which is on) and open iTunes.  The iPad does not show up in the sidebar.  How do you get it to show up so that I can select the iPad and then configure the sync settings in each of the settings panes....hoping that these actually show up.
In the manual it says "log in to your computer user account before connecting iPad".  I am the only user of this PC...does this mean some other user account.  I am confused.  I need "baby steps" to tell me how to do all this....very senior and just learning about this wonderful machine. I will very much appreciate your help.

If you are the only user on your computer you probably don't have multiple user accounts set up and can disregard that.  If you are using iTunes 11 go to View>Show Sidebar.  Now see if your iPad appears under Devices on the left side when you connect it.  If it does, click on the name of your iPad on the left side and your iTunes sync settings options will appear in folders with tabbed headings to the right.
If it doesn't appear on the left side, follow the troubleshooting steps shown in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538.

  • I used my ipad to transfer music to my wife's pc, now I have reconnected to my mac and itunes is not recognsing it - the ipad is not showing in the sidebar

I used my ipad to transfer music to my wife's pc, now I have reconnected to my mac and itunes is not recognsing it - the ipad is not showing in the sidebar and syncing not happening. I have tried resetting ipad and restarting etc but still no joy. Anyone had a similar experience?

Take it to the Apple Store for evaluation.
    Try this.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the Sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut Off. To power up hold the Sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time (for about 10-15 seconds) until the Apple logo appears (ignore the red slider), then let go of the buttons.
     Cheers, Tom

  • The side menu in iTunes is not showing up so therefore my ipad is not showing up.

The left hand side menu is not showing in iTunes so therefore Ipad is not showing. What to do?

You can also go to View>Show Sidebar in the iTunes menu at the top of the screen. The key command on a Mac is Option+Command+S.
