HT1386 My iPhone wont turn on unless I sync it with iTunes

I am not able to turn on my phone. There is a picture of a USB cord with an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo. I tried to sync iTunes on my computer and restore my device, with no success. Then it powered on for a minute. The device was visable on iTunes and I was able to use the touch screen but not the main button. Then it went right back to the USB/iTunes screen, and not visable on iTunes. It won't move. And I keep trying to replug it so that it will show. Nothing.

Sounds like a hardware failure, take it to Apple for evaluation.

If you go to iTunes on your computer click on the App Store and scroll all the way down .  In the bottom right of the screen is a map logo.  Click on that and then chose the flag for the country you want

  • I have an iphone 4S with broken wifi (!) and I need to sync my contacts before I set up my new iphone 6. I thought contacts synced automatically with itunes but seems not.  I've found my Apple address book but contacts are outdated. What to do? Help!

I have an iphone 4S with broken wif i :-( and I need to sync my contacts before I set up my new iphone 6. I thought contacts synced automatically with itunes but seems not.  I've found my Apple address book but contacts are outdated. What to do? Help!

If your Bluetooth is working, you may be able to tether your phone to another device, and backup that way.  Either via iCloud or one of many Apps that send yourself a VCF file containing your contacts.
You may have to update to a later IOS via USB and iTunes, not sure if IOS 6 has Bluetooth Tethering.
I would have thought you could also switch off cloud sync'ing for your contacts, this should ask a question if you want to keep the contacts on your phone.  An iTunes Backup and then Restore to your new iPhone should restore the local contacts.  Then sync these back to the iCloud.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhone 4 version 5.0 has sync problems with iTunes 10.5 on Mac OsX 10.6.8

    Hi there,
I have Mac OsX 10.6.8, iTunes 10.5 and iPhone 4 version 5.0; all up to date.
When I try to sync my phone with iTunes, the sync goes well until the apps start to sync .... then iTunes closes and I get varying error reports.
I have tried updating everything (Mac, iTunes, iPhone) to no avail.
I tried restoring the iPhone, that didn't help whatsoever.
Does anyone have a solution? I am now tempted to downgrade to an earlier version of iTunes (ie: 10.4.3) as some people suggest in different posts.
Thank you for your time in replying!

There is definitely a problem with iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5.0 syncing correctly.  I've seen lots of workarounds on the forums here.  Just search for it and see if you can come up with something that works.

  • Iphone wont turn on unless plugged in

I went to get a ZAGG invisibleSHIELD done on my iphone, after the installation, my iphone keeps rebooting to the apple logo without going into the menu screen, and the power button (top button) doesn't work.
However, everything works perfectly when it is plugged into a power source (both the wall plug and to a computer). It turns on fine, with as if nothing is wrong. I don't even need the itune to boot it.
Now if unplugged it works fine until the screen turns off automatically. If I were to turn on the phone within seconds then its fine, but if left "off" then the phone refuses to turn back on, until it is plugged into a power source again.
(sometimes it goes back to the apple logo, and does the whole boot up/turn off thing.)
I assumed that some liquid seeped into the phone since nothing was installed, or "changed", but what i don't understand was why the phone works perfectly if plugged in.
I left the phone to "dry" for 24hrs, and now the top power button works, and it was working perfectly fine all afternoon, till an hr ago where it refuses to turn back on again.
So is it some "bug" in the system or is it really that some moisture seeped into the phone?

well the headphone moisture sensor is white. i can't locate the docking port one however i dont see anything pink or red.
well the update on the phone is that after the 3rd day, the phone works perfectly fine now, however the power button is only 1/2 as sensitive as before. it needs to be pressed down hard to turn on, while sometimes the button remains non responsive.
So im guessing that some liquid was dripped into the power button causing the phone to malfunction because it was receiving random power on/off signals.

  • Why does my iphone 3gs keep turning off when i sync it with itunes like it tells me to when updating to IOS6?

    please help

    Hi Luke.Wilkins6,
It sounds like you are pressing the top Sleep/Wake button and the phone seems to shutdown rather than go to sleep, and occasionally youll see a purple screen rather than the Apple logo when you start it. I would start by resetting the phone, with these steps:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
If the issue persists I would use the following article to backup your device to iTunes and restore it from your backup. If the issue persists, then restore it one more time as new using the same article to isolate to the backup file itself.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

  • HT4972 My ipods screen is black and wont turn on unless plugged into the wall

My ipods screen is black and wont turn on unless plugged into the wall not the computer but when i plug it into the computer and put it in DFU mode it wont restore there is an error 3194 and error 1602 and nothing i do helps

    Here's what I found about error 1602:
Error 1600, 1601, 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
Error 3194 is also seen when somebody is trying to restore jailbroken devices.

  • My ipod is stuck on connect to itunes i think its in a loop. plus it wont turn on unless its connected to a power source.

my ipod touch is stuck in a connect to itunes loop, plus it wont turn on unless its conneted to a power source. how could i fix this.

    Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

    Hello StephanieeLovezYou,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.  I would be concerned too if my iPhone was only turning on when connected to power.  I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?
