HT1386 My Ipod Classic is not downloading purchases.

I have switched from tower PC to a laptop. I am unable to download my recent purchases. I have read the help topics and paid Apple Support to help me.
The support worked well while she and I spoke. As soon as tried to download purchases after the help, no luck.
I have $100 worth of music that is not transferring to the Ipod.
Any suggestions ?

You can only normally sync with one iTunes library/computer .You have two choices:
- You can add music from the laptop if you sync manually.
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
- Make the laptop your syncing computer by restoring the iPod on the laptop

You sync music the same way as on the Classic. What you sync to an iPod does not effect the iTunes library on your computer.

If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
The iPod should appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES. Select it there. To the right, its Summary screen is shown. Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons starting with Summary. Click on Music next to Summary. This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs ot the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music. This is the switch to enable automatic syncing. If your iTunes music library fits on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library. Otherwise, you can choose to sync Select playlists, artists, albums, and genres. Then select what you want on the iPod from the lists below.
Click Apply to intiate automatic syncing between that iTunes library and your iPod (based on how the iPod's Music screen is set up in iTunes).

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.

IPod classic will not sync after iTunes upgrade

After upgrading to the latest version of iTunes - 10.6.1.7 - yesterday, my iPod classic is not recognized and I cannot sync it.
The iPod does appear as a drive on my computer (with Windows XP). The screen message on the iPod states that it is synching with iTunes, the iTunes message states it is synching with the iPod - but the iPod does not download anything new from iTunes and it does not appear as a device on iTunes.
I've gone through the steps for troubleshooting; I've tried syncing the iPod on two different computers - unfortunately both of which have been upgraded to the latest version of iTunes - with the exact same results.
It worked fine before I upgraded iTunes and I'm at a loss on how to fix this. Is there some way to uninstall the upgrade and reinstall the old version?

I am also having this problem. I have a 160gb classic that I bought last fall. I have a work computer I've used for my iTunes synch base due to broadband access. The system had worked well enough with 64 bit XP and a few registration tweaks to calm itunes about working in that old environment. Forward to 2 weeks ago - I copy my library to the network drive so that IT can scrub the computer and upgrade me to Win 7. Computer is back up, install the newest version if iTunes, seems to come up fine. Several rounds of re-importing the library after it kept entering all the songs twice. Go to re-synch the ipod - get the 'this is a new device, erase *EVERYTHING* and re-synch. Yep yep. Sits there for nearly two hours saying it's re-uploading stuff. Then on the way home, I see - hey, a ton of stuff isn't there, lots of missing podcasts. Go check, everything is checked, new stuff downloaded, can listen to it on the PC with headphones. Then go synch the iPod - get the same 'things are updating..... synch finished'. And nothing has up- or down-loaded. Tried unchecking stuff, nada. Import new stuff, nada. Nothing Plus it looks like pretty much every CD i ripped into itunes for the past 4-5 months failed to move - maybe iTunes was saving it somewhere else than the My Music folder. PITA-factor of that aside, I'd really like to get at the last 3-4 weeks of podcasts. Any help on getting the system to actually do a real sy
My other changes in the last few weeks are getting a new iPhone to replace an old non-iPhone, so there is another devicee on the account. I don't see my iPod listed amongst my devices in the iTunes store - not sure if that's only for wireless stuff.

IPod classic will not connect in iTunes

My iPod classic 30gb (not sure if 4th or 5th gen) will not display in iTunes. I have followed the steps on apple support and came to the conclusion that windows was confusing the my ipod with a network drive but I cannot change the drive letter, an error message appears.
I am using windows 7 on a new laptop. iPod connects fine on my old laptop which has a windows XP os. My iPod is quite old, i have had it since 2005/2006 but i have never had any problems and i really dont want to loose all my music, videos and photos.
My sister has tried connecting her iPhone to this laptop afterwards and after a lot of hassle and iTunes constantly resetting, her iPhone finally managed to connect and is displayed in iTunes.
I have relativley good technical knowledge, i am very good at solving things and am good with computers as have an a-level in I.T, but this has me stuck and is fustrating! Any help would be most appreciated.

I have a similar problem, I was helping a client today, he has an iPod Classic and wanted to download an album. I had to update his iTunes to Version 10, not realizing that this might not work with his older iPod. I connected the iPod to his computer via the Apple USB connector, and his computer did not recognize the iPod.
I have no idea what to do next, as I a more of a MAC user..

Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. The odd thing is that our other iPod (160 GB Classic) is recognized on the same computer using the same USB cable. When I plug the ipod in question into another PC, the PC seems to recognize the iPod and lists it in Windows Explorer (iTunes is not installed on this machine). There seems to be something out of wack with this PC/iPod combo. Any thoughts on what I can do to try to resolve this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

I had to restore my Windows Vista and now my Ipod Classic will not sync

I had to restore my Windows Vista, before I restored I backed up my Itunes to a external hard drive after the restore I switch my I tunes back to laptop and my library was intact, however my playlist shows up as ghost images and will not play. My Ipod classic will not sync with laptop now.

My iPod Classic is not charging. I had it charged for a whole day and never charges. It will only turn on when plugged in. What can I do to get this work again.

Most likely the iPod battery is dead.
If you connect the iPod to a USB2.0 port and reset it, what do you see on the iPod Screen. Can you get to the Music menu and play music? or do you get the "Do not disconnect screen"?

IPod Classic will not sync since installed iTunes 11

iPod Classic will not sync properly since installed new iTunes. Always stops at or around song 2 and just hangs there, even if left all night. Tried restoring the iPod, made no difference. Tried syncing just some songs, sometimes it will do 20 or so but not more than that - and I have 10,000 songs.
Saw something about problem with Winsock and reset that but no effect.
Recently been re-recording CDs in Apple Lossless with 'Convert to AAC' selected for iPod. Maybe the conversion process is causing the block? But it did not before.
I also tried moving the itunes material from the Synology NAS to the PC as I thought the processing power might be the problem. It synced once after that, now it is blocked again. Tonight I tried selecting only the original AAC files and it seems to have worked for them, my problem therefore seems to be the Apple Lossless - unless the syncing of AAC files is another one-off.
Not for the first time I wish I had not updated iTunes because it so often leads to problems of some kind. Why do they not care?

Update: following successful sync of AAC files, I changed the setting to 'manual' for music & videos, used the View menu to restore the old sidebar, and manually added the Lossless files to the IPod. That actually seems to be working (very slowly). But it would be better if Sync worked as it should.

like a say though, not showing up in itunes still
before it recently had this failure, it had shown up as corrupted and that it needed restoring (but i was holding off, as i manually managed all music and was hoping for a way to back it all up, to no avail)
first time posting here, would appreciate a quick answer because tempted to just click the 'restore device defaults' option
