HT1386 My laptop no longer recognises my iPod

Using the original cable, my iPod Touch does not seem to be recognised any more by my laptop. I have tried another iPod cable to eliminate the possibioity that the cable is damaged.
This iPod is only 5 months old ans has not sustained any physical damage. I discovered the problem last night when i tried to load another album played on my Laptop. When I plug the USB to my laptop, the iTunes program does not start as it used to.
Does this mean it no longer syncs with my laptop? Or what? How do I fix it?

  • I found my old iPod shuffle and thought I would sync my iTunes library onto it, now my laptop no longer recognises my ipad! Very frustrating!

I found my old iPod shuffle (3rd gen) and thought I would sync my iTunes library onto it, iTunes wouldn't recognise it at first so following forums on here I managed to find some apple software to reset and update the shuffle! This worked and the iPod shuffle was then recognised by iTunes but now my laptop no longer recognises my ipad! Very frustrating!
Please can some one help! I've been searching on here for a few days now and have tried numerous suggestions from other people's questions but nothing has worked yet!

    You can try this:
I am assuming you are running Windows:
Plug in your iPad to the PC.
Now go to "Start"   - "devices and printers"
Is your iPad showing there ?   (you may have to scroll down)
If you can see it - right click the iPad icon and select "Troubleshoot"
If the USB driver is missing/incorrect it will tell you.

  • My itunes no longer recognises my ipod nano and won't sync.  Any advice?

My ipod nano is no longer recognised by itunes and won't sync.  Itunes is on a Window 8 computer and while windows sees the device, itunes won't?  Any advice?

    Hi caro101,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The article below will help you troubleshoot the issue you are having with your iPod nano not being recognized in iTunes.
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US
If you see your iPod in My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8) but not in iTunes under Devices, try these steps. Start at the top and work your way through the steps until iTunes recognizes your iPod.
If you don't see your iPod in My Computer, follow these steps.
This document is for Windows users and most older iPod models. See the following articles if you have this issue on:
    A Mac
An iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch)
An iPod nano (5th or 6th generation) (and you see an alert message in iTunes when you connect the device)
    Cheers,

  • I have a new hard drive and itunes and my computer (windows XP) no longer recognise my ipod. I also had the problem with the registry keys not being present but this has now been fixed. However i can no longer link my ipod up with itunes.

When I first tried itunes with my new hard drive there was the problem with the registry keys but something also flagged up about needing a signed driver. Is this anything to do with why Itunes and my computer no longer recognises when my ipod is linked up? Whatever i try under 'devices' my ipod is never available to sync up. If anyone can help I would be most grateful.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this has not worked. I didn't have quicktime to begin with so I don't know if that makes a difference? After following the instructions, I get the "registry keys missing" problem appear again (which I've subsequently fixed again) and then when I connected the ipod I got the following message - 'Device driver software was not successfully installed'.
I've tried windows update but this doesn't do anything as '...the service is not running'.
    Any suggestions?

  • ITunes no longer recognises my iPod

when i connect my iPod to my laptop with the USB cable, my iPod displays the charging screen, but iTunes doesn't put my iPod onto the "Devices" list, so i cannot sync my music. There is a connection between my laptop and iPod, but not between my iTunes and iPod. I would appreciate any help to solve this problem. Thank you.

I just had an interesting experience!!!
I looked in the root of the Ipod and found a file called "BOOTEX.LOG" which was created at some time when apparently my windows tried to check the ipod as a disk volume, like below:

The type of the file system is FAT32.

  • USB no longer recognised for IPOD or ext drive

I recently recieved a 5th Gen IPOD. I have installed the software that came with the unit but I cannot see the IPOD. When I check the Device Manager I see an "Unknown Device". Also I can now no longer see my external USB backup drive. It also has "Unknown Device" instead of Mass Storage Device. When I go to reinstall either of these items I get an error:
"The Installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance"
I have removed all usb refs in the Dev Manager and restarted. I have removed these in Safe Mode and restarted. Each time I get the same Unknow Device. My setup is:
    Windows 2000 pro, SP4
    2.4GHz P4 on a Gigabyte board
    512 Ram
Previous to the ipod install my backup drive worked perfectly. It seems like my USB drivers have somehow been corrupted.
I have tired forcing these in as Microsoft Mass Storage Devices but I still get the yellow exclamation mark.
I have also tried to access a 256Mb MP3 player but I get the same error.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks
New IPOD user but getting frustrated.

I got the following reply from Billyd at www.everythingusb.com
"Turn the PC off for awhile - about 30 minutes. Unplug it from the wall too. After the 30 minutes are up, open the case and remove the motherboard battery for a few seconds. Put it back in and reboot.
If you know how to get into BIOS setup, do that and disable Legacy USB. If you're overclocking, don't.
Next, try a Safe Mode cleanup:
    http://tinyurl.com/2fwb"
After scouring the web for a solution and reinstalling my OS, the above solution worked. I have not reinstalled my IPOD yet, want to get everything back up and running, then ghost first. My external hd was recognised straight away and I my machine recognises my 256mb mp3 players.
Also found one of the ground connectors for my front usb was very loose. This may have caused the initial usb issue by connecting my ipod to this usb port. Will see how it goes.

  • Installed iTunes and my Laptop no longer recognises CD-ROM drive

I was given an iPod for Xmas, so I downloaded iTunes and installed it on my Laptop. When I opened iTunes for the first time, I got a message saying that I needed to reinstall iTunes if I wanted to burn CD's; that's fine I thought, as I don't burn many CD's and can use another application to do so. Problem is, when I go into "My Computer" my CD-ROM drive is no longer there and I can't use it play CD's or games. I had to do a system restore in order to get my CD-ROM drive back. I've tried installing iTunes 3 times now and exactly the same thing happens each time.
Obviously, I need my CD-ROM drive and I can't use my iPod without having iTunes installed on my Laptop. Does anyone know what could be causing my problem? Or any way around it? Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
We have this problem also!!! The removal of Itunes and Quicktime certainly resolves the problem regarding installation but what's the point if you then can't use your CD drive. We also have a 30gb Ipod and are regretting our purchase. My daughter bought a Zune by Microsoft which is fantastic, used on a different computer... starting to think that we should have done the same.
CAN ANYONE HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM... APPEARS TO BE MORE AND MORE COMMON WITH OTHER PEOPLE.
