HT1386 Re: syncing iPod to iTunes Library on new computer.
I've just migrated to a new pc (Windows 8), have installed my iTunes Library and the iTunes software. Music plays on my pc. BUT I can't get my iPod to sync. I have tried different USB ports. It used to sync automatically once I established the connection. When I push the "sync" button, all I get in the window at the top is the legend "Starting sync" and the horizontal barber pole (static) for a few moments, and then nothing.
Btw, it outrages me that Apple wants to charge $19 (plus tax) for a consultation!
When all of your synced media like apps and music are in the iTunes libary of the new computer backup the iPod to iTunes and restore from that backup
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
Reason: you can only sync all media with one iTunes libary/computer.

Transferring songs on Ipod to itunes library on new computer
I recently purchased a new computer and would like my ipod to synch with itunes on my new computer rather than uploading all my music again manually--- extremely time consuming. How do I do this without losing everything that is currently saved on my ipod???
hp pavillion Windows XP
hp pavillion Windows XPSet your iPod to manual update. Do this on your original PC first then when you connect it to the new one, it won't auto-sync to the new empty library. There's a tutorial here:http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/tutorial/ipgettingstartedt3.html
If you no longer have your old PC read this before connecting to the new one: "How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93779

My computer crashed and I downloaded Itunes on a new computer and I'm trying to get new music and it says my Ipod is synced with another itunes library {my dead computer} and I can either erase and sync or transfer itunes purchases. Is there any way possible I dont have to erase my music? So frustrating.
Yes. I have no personal experience with this, but it is possible to recover your music from an iPod. See this link: http://guides.macrumors.com/Recovering_Songs_from_an_iPod

My laptop recently crashed and is unsalvageable with my itunes library on it. My ipod still has all of my music still on it.
Is there a way that I can put the songs on my ipod onto itunes on my new computer without loosing them or having to buy them all over again?Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

Reloading ipod and itunes on a new computer
I am trying to reload ipod and itunes on a new computer I recently bought. Because of disc management issues, I had these on an external drive (assigned the letter "F") on my old system. The letter "F" is assigned to a disc drive on my new computer. Every time I try to load ipod or itunes, the installer sequence tells me there is no available memory on drive F of the new machine (true enough), but will not let me re assign to a new drive.
suggestions on how to resolve this?

Ok, so I have a new computer and wanted to transfer my itunes library from my old computer. I could not get the files to transfer. I downloaded the newest version of itunes and see that I can download my previously purchased music to the new computer. I have mp3's that I can add in on my own so I don't have a problem starting over in itunes.
My question is what happens when I plug in my 1st gen ipod touch and try to sync??? Will it erase what is on my ipod or will I be able to move the stuff from my ipod into my new itunes library?? Any info would be great...I'm happy with how my ipod is set up so I really don't want to mess with a good thing. Also, will I need to update and of my software on my ipod since it's 1st generation??
Thanks for the help!!You can only sync to one iTunes library/computer. If you do sync the iPod is erases and its contents replaced with what is in the iTunes library of the second computer.
To avoid that see:

Yes, the 1G works with the latest iTunes.

Adding iPod songs to library on new computer
Firstly, I am sure that there is a post about this subject... Somewhere on these boards. I spent some time looking and didn't seem to find the info I needed.
Here is my question:
I recently built a new PC since my original is at home in the states. (I am currently deployed to Korea) I would like to add the music files from my iPod into the library on my computer. I bought a CD off the music store and authorized my PC. Just cant seem to get my library off my iPod and onto my PC. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time,

91W10, USAYou can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

How do I move my Itunes library to new computer?
I have a new computer and two Iphones and one Itouch. One Itunes account.
I have a new computer running windows vista. I have most of my library on my older iphone but when i connected it to my new computer only some songs where transfered. When I go to sync my Iphone it says that the iphone is synced with another computer. I still have the old computer but want to sell it and already have a buyer.
I have a new Iphone plus the existing one and I also have an Itouch. I want to have the ability to have all my music on the new computer and to have the ability to connect both Iphones and the Itouch to the same computer. Each one would be able to load music from the same library. I also have two laptops which have itunes loaded. I know you can have up to 5 computers on one account and I have not exceeded that.
If possible, if there is a solution can you really dumb down (simplify) the solution.
Thanks for any help you can offer.Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your new computer is to network the two over ethernet and copy your iTunes folder across. This works fine if you have been using iTunes to completely manage your music and all your songs are in iTunes Music not in different folders. If the songs in your library are not all in the iTunes Music folder you can consolidate them. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them:
Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Mac
OS X 10.5 - Connecting two Mac computers using Ethernet
Another way is to put your original computer into target disk mode and copy the data over Firewire: How to use FireWire target disk mode
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a Mac this would be in Username/Music/. Everything has to be exactly the same on the new computer including the Mac user account name. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
If you have any iTunes purchases in your library don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play them: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation -
Getting iTunes library onto new computer
Ok, so about a month ago, my computer died of a broken motherboard. the hard drive did survive, however, and now lives on in an external case. i purchased a new computer, and do not know how to go about getting all of my music onto it. i currently have:
1) An iPod nano full of my music
2) my old computer's hard drive, also full of the same music
3) My new computer, with NO music at all on it
What would be the best way to get my entire music library into iTunes on my new computer? The iPod or the old computer's hard drive? what would be the easiest way to do it? i do have quite a few songs purchased from iTunes. Thanks in advance.

Syncing iphone to itunes on a new computer
My laptop was stolen and I have a new one - which of course is not allowing me to sync my music library to.from my iphone
Is there any way deauthorize the previous computer that the phone is synced to.? I know how to deauthorize the computer and authorize a new computer for purchased items. But I need to figure out how to get my iphone to transfer to this new computerThe iPhone and iTunes are designed to sync music only one way, from the computer to the iPhone. If you are trying to copy music from the iPhone to the computer, it won't. If you have authorized the computer in iTunes with your Apple ID, you can transfer any purchases made with iTunes to the new computer. If you have a backup of your iTunes music library, you can copy that to the new computer.
You have found that if you connect the iPhone to the computer an attempt to sync, it is warning you that you will lose all data currently on the phone and replace it with what is on the computer. If you backup the phone before trying to sync, it will help, but you would not be able to sync data that is not contained in the backup. You will need to sync your calendar/contacts to a supported application on the computer before attempting to sync the phone. You can get those to move over from the phone if you put in a unique calendar appointment and contact that does not exist on the phone. It will then generate a "merge" prompt to merge the contacts on the computer and iPhone to merge. Otherwise, the new computer becomes the one you sync with once you sync it the first time. -
Cannot copy my itunes library to new computer
Hey everyone, need some help. I just got a new computer, and I saved my itunes library to my ipod as instructed by the support area on this website. I loaded Itunes on my new computer and then followed the instructions to copy the library to my new computer. However, it's not working and I don't know what I am doing wrong. I moved the Itunes music folder under my documents on the C drive to the desktop. Then I plugged in the ipod, closed itunes, found the Itunes folder on my ipod from the drive under my computer. I can see the music transfering, however when I open Itunes, the music isn't there. I have tried opening the library file from Itunes, but nothing happens. Can anyone help me troubleshoot?
Thanks!Go to the top of this page, click "Support", then type "move itunes library" or similar into the search bar.
