HT1386 Sync problem after connecting to another Mac

My daughter connected my iPad 2 to another mac computer. Now all the songs on the iPad are gone and the "Sync" within iTunes starts but does not complete and no music is being transferred (neither via USB nor via Wi-Fi). Any ideas? Cheers!

You really don't have to explain. I had young kids at one time.
If you connect the iPad to your syncing Mac - the one that you usually use - and it will not sync - try quitting iTunes, restart your Mac and restart your iPad as well.
Also, make sure that the music is still selected to sync in iTunes in the Music Tab, when the iPad is connected to the Mac, while iTunes is running and with the iPad selected in the devices tab.

  • HD problem after connecting to new Mac Pro

Went to our first MUG meeting of the years tonight. And took along my Lacie 500gig firewire external H/D. This was going to be used to demo the new iTunes 7 app. The computer being used was a new Mac Pro duo core intel etc.
When I plugged the H/d in to the Firewire 400 socket on this machine it would not mount. So sadly the demo would have to wait for another meeting.
MORE SADLY.... when I returned home and tried to connect it to my 15" iMac it would not mount..... What has happened??
It is more than obvious to me that my hard-drive has been corrupted by trying to use it with Apples latest entry into the market.
I have swapped cords Ports etc. The drive does power up when I start the computer and sounds like it is going to mount... Profiler does not show it...
    any help would be appreciated...

Seems that I have a solution.... It would seem after some troubleshooting that the FireWire 400 port in no longer working.... why? I can only guess. The other FireWire 800 and USB 2 ports are fine.... Thankfully I am still in the warrantee window....
Let me say that this is the first and only problem I have had with Lacie H/D's....other than ...."Make sure that you initialize it before adding any files to it"... I know it is supposed to be Plug & Play with Mac, But I am betting it will think it is connected to a PC....unless you take the initializing step...

  • The circuit of my macbook is dead yet the hard drive is fine.  I need to access a file from the hard drive, how can i do this? is there a cable i can connect to another mac that will let me transfer the file?

The circuit of my macbook is dead yet the hard drive is fine.  I need to access a file from the hard drive, how can i do this? The mac turns on the screen freezes as bright blue.  Is there a cable i can connect to another mac that will let me transfer the file?

There is another option if the Macbook will start up in Target Disk Mode.
Restart the computer while holding down the T key. If you see the firewire symbol moving around on the screen you can connect this one to another one in TDM. You will need a suitable cable to connect the two Macs.

  • Cured a sync problem after upgrade 10.5.1.

Since the update of OS X.5.1 and iTunes 7.6, I could no more sync :
iSync crashed, dot mac sync event did not register again my macbook (I deleted all the machines registered from another mac), and I could not sync my iTouch via iTunes...
This is solved now and described at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1380833&tstart=0
    Hope this help.

Will try installing OS X 10.5.1 again from the downkoad that you recommended. Won't be able to do this untill after the New Year but I'll let you know if this helped. I had another problem after he 10.5.1 upgrade and that was that the Security update 2007-009 also refused to install. Could this be related too the problems with Disk utility and the permissions problems.

  • Why does my iPhone not show up in iTunes on a mac that has a shared internet connection from another mac?

I have what I would consider a difficult question. I called Apple Care and after she spoke to a senior advisor, the representative ended up saying it wasn't possible.
Having said that, I'm sure this is not a difficult question for people with networking expertise.
    Setup
So...I have a MacBook receiving a WiFi signal via AirPort.
In System Preferences, I have turned on Internet sharing (share airport over Ethernet).
I connected the Ethernet port on my MacBook to the Ethernet port on my MDD PowerMac G4.
At this point, I can successfully browse the web, perform software updates, and view other computers and iTunes libraries on my network from my G4.
    Goal
However, in iTunes on my G4 I would like to use iTunes DJ.
    Tried
    So...I click on iTunes DJ.
I set the settings (button in bottom right) to allow guest remotes, etc.
I turned on iTunes Home Sharing (logged into the same account as by iPhone).
    Problem
However, from the Remote app on my iPhone, I am unable to see the library on my G4.
Also, if I want to pair my iPhone Remote app with iTunes on my G4, I click add Library in the Remote app, but iTunes on the G4 never displays my iPhone in the left column (although I am able to see all other iTunes libraries being shared on the network).
Thus, I cannot connect to iTunes as a guest Remote, nor can I connect as paired remote.
I have successfully done both of these things with computers connected directly to my modem, as well as with computers connected via WiFi.
The problem is connecting devices to computers that get their internet connection though another computer via internet sharing.
    Question
So my question is about Internet sharing itself. Is it not a fully featured ad-hoc network? Does it only provide browsing capabilities and the ability to browse networked computers, but NOT devices such as an iPhone? I don't see the difference; my iPhone is on the same network as the computers, so why is there no communication between it and computers that gain their Internet connection through another computer?
I really hope someone out there who is an expert in networking can help me out with this. Or if it truly is impossible, if someone could explain to me why that is the case, I would also appreciate it.
ps. I usually have my MacBook sharing its Internet connection through an old router that I am using as a switch because I share the connection with three other computers. And if it isn't obvious, the modem is downstairs, and the MacBook, old router being used as a switch, and other computers are upstairs where there is no Ethernet wired.
Thank you in advance for any help.

  • Can I sync iPhone with movies on another Mac?

My main computer is a PB but I do not have enough space to store movies on this machine. iTunes on this machine has all my music but my movies are on another Mac (G5) on my network. Is it possible to get iTunes on my PB to see movies on my G5 so that I can sync my iPhone with movies on that machine?
    Thanks
    Tony

Your iPhone and itunes on one machine have a unique connection. Device information is kept on your computer and will recognise that phone. To connect the phone to another machine will create a new unique connection between the two, and everything you sync will mirror that machine. You can try syncing with one machine, all your music and stuff but not movies and on the other machine uncheck all selections for syncing other than movies. So to summarise. Machine 1, sync all things except movies. and on machine 2 sync nothing but movies, leaving everything else unsynced. It may not work, but it's worth a try, it won't mess anything up.

  • WiFi Connections thru another Mac

I apologize in advance if this is a very simplistic question. I have a 6 node home network, all wired with CAT5 for 4 mac's and 2 windows PCs. I discovered recently that my Mac Mini has a wifi antenna built in and I can now have some of my laptops connect to the network thru wifi, and I do this as well with my iphone 3G. No worries.
But consider my network topology for a second. Everything is wired, except that wifi is made possible with my Mac Mini, which is also wired to my network but has its own wifi service for other devices. So here's the question. When I try to sync iphone apps with my MacPro thru wifi, they don't see each other (I'm talking specifically about two iphone apps that sync to Mac apps, 1Password and MacFamilyTree). Is this because the wifi is only connected to the Mac Mini, and doesn't let wifi connected devices see my Mac Pro? Do I have a network config problem or am I thinking about this wrong?
    Any advise is really appreciated!
    Thanks
    Jmac

    apple2be,
I too have a wired network in my home. Usually, I leave the Airport off, but curiosity got the better of me and I had to try to recreate your situation. My network lives in the 10.1.1.x IP range. I enabled Airport on one of my machines and set it to share the internet connection from ethernet to Airport (mimicking your Mac Mini). I then enabled Airport on a second machine (representing the iPhone) and connected to the Airport network created by the first machine. I looked at the IP address of the Airport connection on the second machine and found it to be in the 10.1.2.x range. As I suspected, the Mac Mini is acting as a router/wireless access point and is performing NAT between the 10.1.1.x and 10.1.2.x networks. Your iPhone can probably see your MacPro, but your MacPro cannot likely see your iPhone in much the same way that a computer from the internet (hopefully) cannot see past your router (firewall) into your home network.
You may want to try using your MacPro as the wireless access point instead of the Mac Mini. The iPhone may be able to sync to the Pro in this situation, however, I fear you'll run in to much the same problem.
Good luck and please let us know how this works out for you. I'm very interested for curiosity's sake...

  • X6 and ovi suite sync problem - usb connection

i recently bought an x6 and set up ovi suite etc which all worked fine! yesterday i updated maps and the x6 operating system using ovi which again seemed to work fine. Now however when i connect phone to my pc the pc comes up problem with hardware installation and ovi suite only occassionally recognises phone - even when it does it will not sync music! help please - wish i hadn't updated anything as it all worked fine before !!!!

I have a similarly frustrating sync problem with my X6. It's my second phone too.
I've had Ovi Suite installed on my computer for about 9 months. I had difficulty getting it to sync with my X6 phone at first but after some troubleshooting I got it working reasonably well.
However over the last few months it doesn't initiate the syncing process after I connect my device. I can open Ovi Suite and click the sync buttons but it doesn't do anything. It doesn't freeze or crash either which is strange considering it is not processing the request.
I've tried everything including reinstalling the software and resetting my phone. This worked once and since went back to it's old tricks.
The only thing that works is removing the X6 device in OVI suite, rebooting the PC and adding the device again. This is real pain in the backside as you can imagine doing this each time I want to sync it.
In contrast the previous version - PC Suite - worked well with my old Nokia phone.
Nokia support have provided some guidance after pushing for a reply but you dont get expert or timely help from them.
Come on, we cant be just a few people having these issues? I reckon lots of x6 owners aren't getting full value from these devices.
It's at the stage where I'd not recommend a Nokia x6 or other Nokia phone to anyone wanting the PC connectivity which is one of the major benefits of a phone these days.
Go on Nokia give us some love!

  • "Connection Failed" when trying to connect to another Mac on my wireless network.

    Hi,
I am having an intermittent problem with the connectivity between my iMac and Mac Pro - the latter is the media server for our house. Occasionally my Apple TV's seem to lose connectivity to the Mac Pro too which is a real pain. Both Macs are running Mavericks and the Apple TVs are running the latest software too.
If I try to connect to the Mac Pro in Finder on my iMac, the Mac Pro is there but when I click on it I get "Connection Failed". Rebooting both computers seems to fix the problem but is far from ideal when mid way through a film!
The messages in console on my iMac when I try to connect to the Mac Pro in Finder is:
    14/03/2014 10:20:33.542 sharingd[253]: SDSharePointBrowser::handleOpenCallBack returned -5999
14/03/2014 10:23:34.180 locationd[82]: could not open write stream for /var/db/locationd/clients.plist
I'm not sure if this provides a clue?
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Rob

I've managed to connect OK using Connect as. So at least that part is solved. I will see if I can get any diagnostics as to why the Apple TV drops out.

  • Strange Calendar sync problem after migrating to iOS5

    Hello all,
I posted my problem as an "me too" reply to somebody else's thread but think it got a bit lost there.
Since I can't solve this problem I decided to make a new thread.
    The problem:
After upgrading my iPhone4 to iOS5 I have a strange calendar syncing issue such that existing entries from one calendar (I've got two, see below) are duplicated on the other .... but only on the iPhone, not on the calendar server (Lotus Notes) itself!
As I couldn't find a normal solution to this problem (already removed the complete Lotus Notes traveler account from my iPhone and reinstalled it again, to no use: the duplicates pop up again) I finally decided to start removing the duplicate entries on my phone. To my surprise however they popup again!!!!!
I added a new entry to the original calender to see whether that one would popup in the other as well but this didn't happen.
It looks to me it must be something wrong on my iPhone as the "duplicates" do not show up in the calender database on the server (using Lotus Notes PC client) nor its replicas.
    The configuration:
I sync with two calendars on my iPhone:
    - gmail calendar for my private
    - lotus notes server (traveler exchange) for my work.
The gmail calender also syncs with my desktop client (outlook 2010) via a small application "gSyncit".
This all worked like a charm on iOS4.
No matter where I modified, deleted or added entries (not only calendar, also contacts and mail) it all stayed perfectly in sync!
Does anybody out here noticed the same and/or has a solution to this?
BTW: I haven't activated iCloud for the calendar/mail/contacts (yet) ...

    OK,
I found out what was wrong myself.
In the end it turned out that it had nothing to do with the iOS5 upgrade itself.
In case somebody else stumbles accross this very same problem, here's what was going on:
    - Within the latest lotus notes client (on PC) the user has the possibility to display (read-only) external calendar contents (e.g. google's calendar).
    - When setting this up you need to supply your external calendar's login/password information and next to that
    - also have the possibility to select "View this calendar when offline or on a mobile device"
It was this setting (which I probably accidentally enabled) causing the "issue". Deselecting this option made my duplicate entries disappear on my phone.

  • New Outlook sync problem after update!!!

I had the 'original' Outlook sync problem, which went away after the iTunes update to 7.3.1, but now, after the iPhone update last night, I have an entirely NEW Outlook sync problem!!
When I sync the iPhone, right when it gets to the 'syncing contacts' part (that you see in the top box/window in iTunes) I get an error message that I haven't seen before. It says "AppleMobileDeviceHelper has encountered a problem and needs to close..." and it gives me the option to send an error report. I dismiss the error box, and the sync process hangs, and iTunes becomes unresponsive.
If I open Outlook, the two Apple sync oblects are still enabled, and get no error message. If I re-open iTunes and try to sync again, it only syncs iTunes content, and never even tries to sync my contacts or calendar.
Anyone having anything similar since last night? The only thing different is the iPhone firmware update.

I just cancelled the sync by using the slider. I didn't realize I could do that. The phone seems fine. I may try it again and see what happens.

  • I'm having syncing problems after I upgraded my iphone 4 to ios 5 !!

Yesterday I went to a cellular shop and asked to upgrade my iphone 4 to ios 5.
Now that my phone is upgraded, I plugged it into itunes at home.
I was trying to sync all the applications and the songs and the photos.... to my phone but each time the syncing starts, after a few seconds it stops immediately without syncing anything !
    Any ideas ???

  • Problems to connect camera to mac osx

it will not appear the password incorrect error."

  • Want to connect to another Mac in another state, Best Way?

G'day, I help my brother out with his accounting for his business, at the moment I am using logmein to connect and do what I have to. It is very choppy and a bit hard to work with and cant wake his mac up if it goes to sleep.
I'm just wondering if there is a better way to connect to him? I use a Mac Book Pro and he has the latest iMac.
At home I am a part of a private network to work so I just VNC into all the computers on that network, that works quite well most of the time. I have a time machine with a linksys broadband firewall router / VPN endpoint.
I had a look at back to my mac but he had some errors, my end says it will work with another mac with it enabled.
What would the best solution be?
    Thank you

I'm not sure how that will effect my current private network with work?
The network on your end doesn't matter much, as long as you're not behind some kind of firewall that prohibits screen sharing connections. What's important is the network on the other end, as you'll need full control of it in order to set up access to your brother's machine. But if you read my other post that I referred you to and it sounds like Greek, you're probably better off just sticking to either LogMeIn or Back To My Mac.
If I did try it do you just set up a shared mac in the finder window and screen share somehow?
You'd turn on screen sharing in System Preferences -> Sharing on your brother's machine, making sure that you know an appropriate username and password on his computer. Then, from your machine, the easiest thing to do is to open /System/Library/CoreServices/Screen Sharing (adding this to the Dock would be a good idea if you do this a lot) and type in the IP address of your brother's home network. See the notes on that IP address in that post I gave you a link to.
Anyone had any experience with back to my mac?
No idea, I haven't needed it, so I haven't tried it. Someone else will have to chime in on that one.

  • Problems after connecting USB 1.1 devices to an unpowered USB hub

After connecting a mouse, usb stick and an external hardrive to an unpowered USB 2.0 hub, I now get no response from any of those devices, though they had been working fine before. Other devices that I have since plugged into that same usb slot work just fine. What could possibly have happened??? I appreciate any insight!

    Nance,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
You did not mention if each one of these devices still works when plugged directly into the USB 1.1 port. If they do, then I cannot explain the problem. If they do not, it is possible the USB 1.1 port was overloaded with all three devices connected to the unpowered USB 2.0 hub. You may have gotten such a warning on the screen.
If you have not done so, I would disconnect all devices, shut down the powerbook, then reset the PRAM.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
Now test each device by connecting directly to the USB 1.1 port.
If both the USB stick and USB HD (I am assuming that you have an unpowered 2.5" HD) were mounted on the computer's desktop when this 'possible' power shortfall occurred, it could have corrupted both devices so they will not longer mount properly. Connect each device to the USB 1.1 port, then see if Disk Utility can see the device and repair any damage. The mouse may no longer work if the preferences or other software was corrupted.
If you are running an unpowered HD, I would recommend a powered USB 2.0 hub so you can connect other devices without worry.
