HT1386 Sync session failed to start message. No help there...

Can't sync iPad because it "failed to start".  Not a helpful message or direction on what to do about it? Cords hooked up, wifi enabled, everything seems to be ok, but it fails to start. Any ideas?

Try quitting iTunes, restart your computer, reset your iDevice and then try to sync again.
Reset the iDevice by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the device start up.

  • Sync session failed to start message

When I try to sync my phone I am getting this message.  Sync session failed to start.  How do I correct this?

Make sure that you have not tried to put more items on the phone than there is space for. That can cause a sync to fail. Also be sure that you are connected to the internet. It may help. Good luck!

  • HT1386 sync session failed to start

I have synced my iphone with my computer a number of time.  Currently trying to sync the iphone with my computer and get an error, "could not be synced because the cync session failed to start.  Any explanation on what could have cause this problem?

'sync session failed to start' is almost always a USB issue. Try different USB ports on the computer (one in the back if it's a desktop), try a different USB cord if you've got one. make sure you have the latest version of itunes and that there's no debris in any of your ports including on the phone itself

  • What could be the reason when to get sync session failed to start message. I have upgrades to IOS5 but seemed to have no problems

I had upgraded nearly 1,5 month ago to IOS 5.0.1 and seemed to have no problems during the process (all my aps and books retored fine).
However suddenly today i-tunes says it can't be synchronizes (starting 1/7) because sync session failed to start.
I've tried also with WiFi sync but was always trying to restart syncronization.
I've runned the i-tunes diagnostic for sync and said it passed.
Could be H/W problem with my ipad?

  • First sync attempt after updating to newest version last week, now telling me that "could not be synced because sync session failed to start"... help?

I updated my iPod Touch last week, and now I went to sync it with some new music on my computer and I get the message that "could not be synced because sync session failed to start". This is obviously the first step in the process and has never been a message I have received through owning the original iPod, the iPod 2G, and the iPod Touch 2G and now 4G. Any ideas? Common problem?

Thanks. I couldn't find it previously, but once I asked the question officially it popped up in the suggested answers box on the side. Could not, then, figure out how to delete this comment! Ha. Appreciate you taking the time to point it out though, thanks!

  • HT1386 I am getting a message that says, "Failed to sync because the sync session failed to start?"  Any solutions?

My wife dropped her iPad2 last week.  Since then one of her apps is not working correctly so I thought that I would sync the iPad because it has been a while.  When I plugged it in to my desktop computer through USB, I got the message "Failed to sync because the sync session failed to start."  I have never seen that message before and I am not sure what I can do now to sync my wife's iPad.  Any suggestions and/or help would be appreciated.

I realize your device is different, but the solution will probably be identical. Read this thread:

  • HT1386 itunes comes up with message "the iphone could not be synced because the sync session failed to start" no matter what i do it wont sync it

when ever i try to sync my phone itunes comes up with this message. this iphone could not be synced because the sync session failed to start. how do i fix this?

    iTunes
The version of iTunes that comes with beta 2 cannot sync devices that have the beta 1 software installed. To avoid this problem, do the following:
Sync any devices that have beta 1 installed to the version of iTunes that came with beta 1.
Upgrade iTunes to the version that comes with beta 2.
Connect the device and install the beta 2 software. (Understand that you might see a failure to sync error when you first connect the device.)
After installing the beta 2 software, restore from your the backup you made in step 1.

  • Cannot sync. Error message says "sync session failed to start"

I am not able to sync my ipod. The error message "the ipod could not be synced because the sync session failed to start" keeps popping up. I have tried both syncing it plugged in and by wifi and the same message appears

Same problem today. Took five times to reinstall without any error messages. Apple has posted a way to fix and you should follow their's first. I finally got to upldate correctly by doing their fix but with one difference. I did the following:
    1) Went to the C:\program files (x86)\iTunes and C:\program files\iTunes folders and moved every file ending in .dll to the desktop (even if two files in same location had the same name, just replace)
    2) Restarted computer and still got error message
    3) Uninstalled all apple programs possible in the following order......itunes, apples software update, apple mobile device support, bonjour, and apple application support.....all performed using the microsoft control panel
    4) put all the .dll files on the desktop in the trash and emptied (this is a step apple support did not specifically put in their fix but for a final try I wanted to delete everything apple).
    5) Restarted computer.
    6) Re-installed itunes from apple website
No error messages during re-install and was able to open shortcut in one try. Even updated my ipad to make sure everything was working.

  • HT1296 My iphone wont sync and all I get is a message saying that the sync session failed to start, any ideas on what I do next?

Pretty much as above, when I plug my iphone in it just comes up with the message saying the sync session failed to start and thats all I can get out of it :/
Any ideas on what I need to do to get my iphone to talk to my itunes again please?

    Hi hblower,
As a first step, I would suggest quitting your open apps:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Then sign out of iTunes:
iOS: Changing the signed-in iTunes Store Apple ID account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311?viewlocale=en_US
    Restart and/or reset the device:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
Are you running the latest version of iTunes?  If not, update the software and try syncing again …
    Cheers,
    Judy

    Hello brainiac08
Typically that error occurs because of a backup issue. Check out the article below to resolve it.

Quit iTunes, restart your computer, restart your iPad and try again. If it doesn't work with a restart of the iPad, try a reset of the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
