HT1386 Sync to second PC

Can you sync to more than one PC?  If you sync to another PC, how do you go back to synching with the original computer?

iPhone is meant to sync with 1 pc only. If you sync with a 2nd pc, all iPhone content will be erased and replaced by that pc.

  • HT1386 Sync a second contact list to the ipad

My husband and I share a Mac and have different user accounts on that Mac.  We have a new ipad (3) that I have been syncing with my user account but I want to have his contacts on the ipad as well.  It would be nice to have them separate on the ipad.  How can I sync his contacts without erasing my information?

AFAIK, you can only use one iCloud account at a time on an iOS device. Do you have a link to share that states how to use more than one account on the iOS devices?
Sorry for the bad English, when I said sign out, I meant delete the account.
    Update -
A quick web search comes up with this article with plenty of caveats for using two (or more) iCloud accounts on the same iOS device. It certainly isn't ideal.

  • Syncing a second new iPod nano.

I am having problems syncing a second new iPod nano. iTunes is set to sync entire library 1100 songs but when it syncs it only adds 18 songs. Any suggestions

You'll be fine. You can sync them both.

  • What is the best way to sync a second Ipod (7th generation nano) to itunes

What is the easiest way to sync a second Ipod (7th gerneration nano)?  I want all my songs on both ipods.

iTunes treats each iPod separately, so you can set up each iPod's syncing as desired, without regard to the other one.  You can connect them both at the same time, and set them up differently or identically.
Here is a convenient way to set up automatic syncing, and in your case, keep both iPods in sync with each other.
I want all my songs on both ipods.
First, if your entire iTunes music library ("all of my songs") fits on the iPod, it will be easy.  Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.  Set it to Sync Music.  Below that, chose to sync Entire music library.  Apply the change.  Your entire music library syncs to your iPod.  Repeat for other iPod.  Any changes you make to your iTunes music library going forward syncs automatically to your iPods, when you connect them (or click the Sync button).
Otherwise, if your music library does not fit (or you want to be more selective), you need to set up the Music tab, but choose to sync Select playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  This is where you can keep it simple...
Create a new regular playlist in iTunes, and name it something like "iPod Songs."  Add ALL of the songs you want on your iPod to that playlist.  Back on the Music tab, find and select ONLY that new playlist under Playlists.  Apply the change.  The songs on that playlist sync to your iPod.  Repeat for other iPod.  Going forward, when you want to update songs on your iPods, just update that playlist (add and remove songs).  Changes you make to that playlist sync automatically to your iPods, when you connect them (or click the Sync button).

  • HT1386 Sync session failed to start message. No help there...

Can't sync iPad because it "failed to start".  Not a helpful message or direction on what to do about it? Cords hooked up, wifi enabled, everything seems to be ok, but it fails to start. Any ideas?

Try quitting iTunes, restart your computer, reset your iDevice and then try to sync again.
Reset the iDevice by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the device start up.

  • HT1386 sync ringtones

    iPhone 4, Macbook Pro
when sync is performed, ringtones from iTunes do not appear in the general settings>sound menu of the phone. all sync settings are checked on the laptop, including tones.

    Some things to confirm:
That they are really ringtones: right-click on the files in iTunes, select Get Info, on the Summary tab they must say Kind: Ringtone
That the ringtones are 40 seconds or less in length
That you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos" on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings
That you have checked the box next each of the ringtones that you want to sync to your phone
That you checked "Sync Tones" on the Tones tab of your iTunes sync settings

    Hi there!
To begin with: i'm sorry for my language mistakes!
Here's my problem: i have an ipod second generation and i have the updated version of itunes.
Yesterday, i connected my ipod to my windows xp and it synchronised. Nothing wrong. But then i tried to sync again, and my itunes freezes and my ipod just charges, don't sync. After 2 minutes my itunes gives an error: ipod not found.
I have reinstalled my itunes, repaired my ipod, reinstalled the drivers, made that MS dos file, but nothing works to solve my problem.
My Ipod isnt in garanty anymore, but i hope you can help me please?
    With friendly regretz, Tom

My Ipod is a blue nano, a little bit more than 1 year old, second generation. & sinds i have updated my itunes, i have this problem. So, i will explain it again.
    1) I put the cable on my ipod, into the usb-port of my laptop, the switch button is not on.
    2) My ipod synchronises and copys all new music i have added in my playlist.
    3) Ipod goes to normal screen when all is synced (what normally shouldn't be, in the past i still saw don't disconnect)
    4) I click again on sync, my ipod doenst react, my itunes freezes, and after a while he sais: disk not found.
I searched out this forum and nothing found. I have even tried that 'batch' file.

  • Vista & Outlook 2007: Sync with second XP & Outlook 2003 - The passed buffer is too small for the reply data

    Dear Community,
I'm synchronising my T3 with two PCs. One with Vista & Outlook 2007 and the other with XP & Outlook 2003. Both with the latest conduit & Hotsync Manager versions installed for each OS based on the availability on the Palm Website.
My problem is that when I synchronise the T3 with either PC and then try to sync it with the other I'm receiving the following error message for the Calendar:
    Outlook Calendar
The passed buffer is too small for the reply data.
    OLERR:0D-0008
    OLERR:0D-0004
    OLERR:0D-0001
    - Slow Sync
    Outlook Calendar synchronization failed
The second time the sync is successful but takes a long time and the actual problem is that it creates duplicates for records previously changed on either PC - but with a sync in between those changes, i.e. no conflict in the sense that the same record was changed in both environments since the last sync. I have configured the conflict handling to establish a hierarchy PC1-T3-PC2 but try to avoid them by synchronising as often as possible.
Has anyone come across that problem or any ideas? Can you somehow adjust the buffer size for the sync? I have been using Lotus Organiser & then the various Outlook versions for a number of years.
    Thank you
    Rainer

As they say on TV, "Doh"!!!
I figured out the problem. I started the Sync tool, selected "Settings", then "Mcrosoft Outlook" tab and then "Select Folders" button. I browsed to the proper folders in Outlook (Calendar, Tasks, etc). Select OK enough times and retried the sync.
    It worked.

  • HT1386 Syncing works but can't hear audio with headphones.

Syncing works but can't hear audio with headphones.  Works without headphones though.

    Have you tried other headphones?
What does syncing have to do with the problem?
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • IPhone trying to sync with second iTunes

My iPhone and iPad sync with my home computer, called "Colin's MacBook".
My work computer, called "Colin's Work MacBook", has the same iTunes library, copied over from a Time Machine backup.
I sync my iPhone and iPad over wifi.
Every time I open iTunes at work, it insists on mounting my iPhone and iPad and syncing them. I've checked the sync settings and it is set to prevent automatically syncing (Settings > Devices).
This changes the Wifi Sync control panel to say "This will sync automatically when 'Colin's Work MacBook' is available", and I have to sync to my home Mac via a cable to change it back.
Then I open iTunes at work the next day and the same thing happens all over again.
How can I get iTunes at work to stop trying to grab the iDevices?

It really has nothing to do with the fact that it is second hand. See here -

  • HT1386 Syncing my iPad

How come my music that I didn't purchase from I tunes won't synce on my iPad

Do they show in the TV Shows section of that computer's iTunes ? If not and the account is authorised on that iTunes (via the Store > Authorise This Computer drop-down menu option) then you should be able to copy them over via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases.
Copying them over to a computer won't delete them from an iPad, you will need to delete them yourself e.g. by pressing and holding one of them on the TV Show selection screen in the Videos app, after a second or two you should get an 'x' on its top corner
