HT1386 trouble syncing music on ipod touch with new itunes library

I can't seem to get my ipod touch (2nd Gen) to sync with my itunes library.  Had Trouble installing itunes 10.6.1 and abandoned the effort on main computer for now (out of FRUSTRATION!!!)  and instead tried to sync with my sons computer.  It wiped the ipod (expected that) but now when I try to sync for music it only downloads a few songs.  HELP!!!!  Please???  Get the message that sync could not be completed because sync failed to start.  I really can't afford to pay these guys to help with a product that should work so any help would be appreciated.

  • How do I sync my old ipod to my "new" iTunes library without losing the music I already have loaded onto my iPod?

Hi, so I got my new computer loaded up with iTunes and I want to be able to move my music from my old iPod to my new iTunes library without losing any of the music I already have placed on the iPod. How would I do this? And please I'm not too savvy with the new iTunes layout and such so if you could make this easy in layman's terms that would be great.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you purchased all songs in the iTunes Store, plug your iPod to your Mac or PC and iTunes will ask you to transfer purchases.
If you didn't purchase any song or you have non-purchased songs from the iTunes Store, you have to use an application to transfer the songs to iTunes. Here is a list of applications you can use for that > https://discussions.apple.com/message/11319208#11319208

  • How do I sync a friends iPod Touch with my iTunes?

    Hiya
I am borrowing a friend's iPod Touch and want to sync it with my iTunes to copy some music onto it for her. When I try to sync iTune says that Touch can only be synced with 1 iTunes at a time and gives me the choice of Erase & Sync or Transfer Purchases.... neither of which I can do really! Can anyone help?

to prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod - hold down the option and the command (on a PC that would be the shift and ctrl ) keys when plugging in the iPod - keep pressing the keys until the iPod is listed under the devices list in iTunes.

  • 2 ipod touches with 1 itunes library??

My girlfriend and I were wondering how we can set up 2 playlists on itunes with 1 computer. We want to have 1 shared itunes but have different songs on eachother's ipods. Any help with this please?

Set up different playlists and sync only the playlist(s) you want.
Add/delete from these playlists to change what you have on your iPod.
    Select the iPod in iTunes.
    Click the Music tab.
Tick *Sync music* and choose *Selected playlists* then tick the playlist(s) you want on your iPod.

  • Transferring an old library on my iPod touch to new iTunes library

    Hi - please help me!
My laptop broke last year, I think I managed to turn it back on to deauthorize the iTunes account on it but I can't quite remember.
A few months ago I bought a new laptop (windows vista). I have all my old downloaded iTunes music and playlists on my iPod touch, but when I connect it to my new laptop I cannot add any new music that I am downloading. I need some help with transferring all my old library onto my new laptop to integrate my old and new music- until then I can't add any new music to my iPod!
I love my old music - refuse to part with it so any advice would be GREAT thank you!

1st try logging into your account and go to the option, check for avaible downloads. If that dosn't work try plugging your ipod in and it should come up with an option saying transfers songs from perd16 iPod or whatever the name of your iPod is. If none of these helps. Try emailing me at [email protected] and I will help you more there.

i purchased songs via my ipod touch.  when I sync'd my ipod touch with my computer, the songs I purchased disappeared into a black hole... how do I get them back without having to repurchase?

On your iPod Touch, open the iTunes app. There should be tab named "purchased", which shows all your purchase history. Choose the "Not on this iPod" tab and you'll get a list of purchased products that are not on your device. Hope this helped.

Try settings -- messages -- send & recieve and see if your email and phone number are in there and if there is only a check mark next to your email address.  If so just check off your phone number and try that.

  • How do i use 2 ipod touches with 1 itunes account?

how do i use 2 ipod touches with 1 itunes account?  can they share apps and music etc. I'm not very good at any tech so advise would be much appreciated.

Yes. You can sync an unlimited number of iDvies that you control to one iTunes library/account. If using the same iTunes library on the same comutr just make sure that yu go to the ap. music and other pane for the iPod in iTunes and select sycn selected items. Not the the whole library.  That way each iPod can have it own contents.

  • Can't sync playlists from ipod touch to new computer

Can't Sync Playlists from iPod Touch to New Library
I just upgraded from an old Pentium computer to a new Dell XPS 18 running Windows 8.1.  Downloaded latest version of iTunes to the new computer, then successfully transferred library content from the old computer to the new one via the external hard drive method.  All material -- iTunes purchases, music ripped from CDs, a movie, even MP3 files purchased long ago from another source -- transferred successfully; everything plays on the new computer just fine.
My problem is that the "old" playlists didn't transfer over.  After connecting my iPod Touch to the new computer, I verified that the iPod has the latest version of iOS, and its content (including the old/original playlists) displays in the window on the left-hand side of the iTunes screen.  The really frustrating thing is that I can find no way to transfer the old playlists to my new iTunes library.  I've tried dragging and dropping, selecting and pasting, and exploration of all the options menus, but no luck.  Creating a new playlist in the new library and then clicking on the "Add To" button opens up a window into which to drop dragged songs/folders from the new library listing, but simultaneously closes the left-hand display window with all of my iPod's current playlists depicted.
I appear successfully to have backed up my iPod to the new computer, but all the sync menu options are grayed out.  When I tried clicking on the Sync button, I got a warning that syncing to the new library would erase everything from the old library -- presumably obliterating my playlists with it.  I have about a dozen different playlists, some of them with several hundred songs, drawn from a library of a few thousand individual items.  Is there some means of importing/transferring the old playlists to the new computer/library, so that I don't manually have to drag and drop hundreds and hundreds of songs into a new set of playlists?  Am I overlooking something really obvious or simple?  Can I safely turn on Home Sharing and then import or paste the old playlists into the new computer's library.  I don't think I'm too much of a Luddite, but given the size of my library I'm very leery of turning on Home Sharing (to the old Pentium computer) after I've successfully transferred over many GBs of content from the old machine to the new.
    Thanks very much --

  • Will 1st gen ipod touch still work with new itunes library on new computer (transfer didn't work from old computer)

Ok, so I have a new computer and wanted to transfer my itunes library from my old computer. I could not get the files to transfer. I downloaded the newest version of itunes and see that I can download my previously purchased music to the new computer. I have mp3's that I can add in on my own so I don't have a problem starting over in itunes.
My question is what happens when I plug in my 1st gen ipod touch and try to sync??? Will it erase what is on my ipod or will I be able to move the stuff from my ipod into my new itunes library?? Any info would be great...I'm happy with how my ipod is set up so I really don't want to mess with a good thing. Also, will I need to update and of my software on my ipod since it's 1st generation??
    Thanks for the help!!

You can only sync to one iTunes library/computer. If you do sync the iPod is erases and its contents replaced with what is in the iTunes library of the second computer.
    To avoid that see:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
Yes, the 1G works with the latest iTunes.
    To transfer iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
In iTunes 11 use Control+B to show the Menu bar then go to iTunes>File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
