What does "OTHER" represent under capacity?

Hi All,
I have been facing the same issue and found a solution that does not require a full restore!
Its seems to be related with the music synchronization mechanism
Here is a link to a very usefull documentation that describe what I did to resolve my issue!

Hope this help.

    What is "other" in the capacity bar and how do I manage it?

    The "other" is mainly corrupt files and files that did not get deleted by apps one the app was done with the file. Normally the other s less than 0.25 GB.  To reduce the size of other, usually a restore to factory defaults/new iPodis required.  Sometimes restoring from backup helps a little.

    What does "other" mean at the bottom of the sync page? It is taking up a large amount of space on my phone.

    The other section contains temporary files, such as text messages, iMessages, voicemail, and other storage that is meant for small short term use.  If the other section of your phone has grown quite large and you can't account for what it could be then you may have experienced a syncing error to iTunes.
    I have experienced this problem frequently during my years with the iPhone.  The other portion of my phone grows with every sync of my phone to iTunes.  There comes a point where it takes up the majority of the space on my iPhone, making the device near unusable.
    When it grows to this extent is usually cased by an error during the syncing process.  Any information iTunes can't reconcile during the syncing process is saved out of sight, out of mind, in the 'other' section.
    You will never be able to see or recover this section unless you are very savvy and know how to poke around the archived iPhone back-up on your computer.  (if you are thinking of trying, stop.  It will not be worth your time and effort, or if using third party software, the money or spyware associated with it *cough* iTools *cough*).
    The only fix I have found that works is to back up your phone to iTunes, and preform a 'restore'.  This erases the content of your phone, and restores it to factory settings.
    That is you phone will be as if you took it fresh out of the box.  You can preform a restore from back-up through iTune, or iCloud to get your content back.
    Lo and behold your have trimmed the mystery meat.

  • What does "Other" mean when I sync my iPod touch 4G on iTunes?

    When I sync my Apple produtcs to my iTunes, "Other" appears on the storage bar. What does "Other" mean because it says that I have 5.13 GB of "Other"

    Other is usually around 1 GB...
    A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
    First Try a Restore from Backup... But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup... Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

  • What does "other" mean when syncing my device?

    i plug in my iphone 4s into my imac. there is over 2 GB labelled under Other in iTunes... how do i minimize it simply? what exactly is it? what does it mean? can somebody please let me know?

    "Other" is just that. All of the data on your phone that is not listed explicitly; everything except music, videos, photos, podcasts and apps. Examples include email, text messages, mms messages and their images, app data, Siri cache, Safari cache, maps, operating system settings such as mail accounts, WiFi settings and passwords, album art, etc, etc, etc.
    5 GB is a bit large, however, so you may have some data corruption also. Take a look at "More Like This" to the right of your post.

    Open AirPort Utility, the application that you used to configure the AirPort Express and click Manual Setup.
    Click directly on the word "Status" (2nd line) and a window will open to tell you why the Express is complaining. What is the message?
    It might be a notification that an update is available for your Express.

  • What does "this" represent ?

    Hello NGs,
    I found this applet in one of the tutorials:
    "import java.awt.Point;
    class NamedPoint extends Point {
    String name;
    NamedPoint(int x, int y, String name) {
    super(x,y);
    this.name=name;
    public static void main(String[] arguments) {
    NamedPoint np = new NamedPoint(5,5,"SmallPoint");
    System.out.println("x is "+np.x);
    System.out.println("y is "+np.y);
    System.out.println("Name is "+np.name);
    Now, this works fine. But I was trying to understand how the "this."instruction in line 6 works.
    If I try replacing it by "NamedPoint.name" or "NamedPoint(x,y,name).name" or anything I could think of, I get an error message from the compiler saying that he cannot find the variable.
    The question ist: what EXACTELY does "this" represent in this case ? By what could I replace it to achieve the same result ?
    Thanks.

    In this case u need this to tell the compiler what you are talking about, cause you've got a field name in the class-definition and an parameter name in the constructor. so usually it's enough if u write:
    name=...; But as we have a name conflict here, you have to qualify the field name with this. In general this is the "self-reference" and super is the "reference to the super-class". You can't write NamedPoint.name here cause name isn't a static field. you could make it static though, by replacing the name declaration with this: static String name;

  • What does "other" refer to as far as storage is concerned?

    I'm synching my daughter's iPod Touch, and iTunes displays a bar at the bottom to show storage.  I get what "apps", "audio", and "video" are, but what constitutes "other"?

    Other is basicaslly files that the iPod doesn't understand. Possibly music that has become corrupted and unplayable.
    Al iPods tend to have an amount of other, and it is not usuaully a problem. I think it may also include files that it does use, but you and I do not.  Often, a Sync will sort out any issues. How much "Other" is listed and what capacity is the iPod?
