HT1391 How to move my media files to another drive with Itunes 11

I am using Itunes 11 on a Windows 7 PC.  My C Drive is full and I am trying to move all my media files to D drive.  While previous versions of Itunes seem  to allow this, the instructions for doing so with Itunes 11 state that files already on the drive will stay where they are even if you change the location of the media file.  Only new files will move to the new location.

About the iTunes library files
Your iTunes library files track the media you add to iTunes, how you've organized it, and other information such as playlists. By default, these two files are in your iTunes folder:
Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music/iTunes/
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
Windows Vista: C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\
Windows 7: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
Windows 8: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\

  • How to  move a page file to another directory ?

    Hi,
What I did to try to move a page to another directory is:
    1. copy the page file to another directory /public_html/mydirectory.
    2. modify the nevigation-rule in the faces-config.xml file so that the nevigation-rule
point to the file in the new directory.
But when run the page, there is an FacesException: Cannt instantiate backing_bean.
How to move a page file to another directory?
    Thanks
    Stephen

besides moving the file to the new directory, i'd advise you to find the name of your page in every file of your application (ultraedit does this very well) and append the directory wherever it appears otherwise you'd probably miss a reference and have a problem like you have.

Hi , we want to move R12 apps-tier to another box with same hostname, same application paths and a new IP. What is the best way? SR recommends cloning but I am seeking for a short way,Thanks.Cloning is the best approach.
You could simply copy all the files (without running preclone), clean FND_NODES and bring the services up.
How to Clean Nonexistent Nodes or IP Addresses From FND_NODES [ID 260887.1]
How to get a clean Autoconfig Environment ? [ID 391406.1]
You would still need to relink the executable files as per the docs in this thread -- Need clarification on Solaris 10 upgrade for E Business suite application
Again, I would recommend cloning as it is the easiest/shortest method.
    Thanks,

  • How to move all graphic files to another hard drive?

Sorry that I do not even understand the program well enough to use the specific terms but my wife is using Photoshop Elements 4 and has thousands of graphic files. She wants to move them all to another hard drive to free up space on C drive.
1 - How do we move all the files without confusing the organizer? My wife found a move function but still has two problems: 1- Can't figure out how to tell the program where to put the files (seems like it may have just created another copy on C drive). 2- the organizer has to reconnect to every single file that is moved - a process that takes hours.
2 - How do we change the settings so that Elements will store files on the new G drive instead of continuing to put everything on C drive? Most of her new files are camera uploads and scans.
3 - After we get the files set up on G drive, is there an easy way to identify and remove the old files on the C drive? (Judging from the amount of space that is filling up on the C drive, it seems that the program must have duplicated the files on C drive in our previous attempts to move files.)

I can help with some of this...
The simple way to move the files is using Folder View. You can then simply drag and drop images - or whole folders - to the new drive. It will take a little while to sort out the catalog, but nothing painful. No reconnecting is necessary.
Go to Edit/Preferences. There is a setting there that determines where image files are stored.

  • Is it safe to transfer captured media files to another drive?

I just bought a 250GB Lacie d2 External Firewire Drive to specifically use on a school internship project.
The client is a local film maker who wants a behind the scene documentary made of the production of his new film. I decided to buy my new fire wire drive just for this project alone.
I'm finding that I've just about filled up the whole thing mostly with all the archive footage he gave me to use as supporting B Roll to the few interviews I've already shot. Realizing that I still have more interview footage to collect I anticipate having to buy a new firewire drive.
My next option is to buy a 500GB drive (same make and model) from my local apple store. The issue is, I'm not sure how to go about handling a project file that would have two seperate capture folders, each one located on it's own drive. Am I asking for problems?
I was thinking that with the new drive, I'd take all the media files in my Lacie 250GB (not the capture folder itself, just the files inside) and just move them over onto the new Lacie 500GB. Then I'd create a new project file on the new drive, recreate my file folder heirarchy in my browser and just "Import" the transfered media files into the brower through the file menu.
Then for any new footage I shoot in the future, I'll just log and capture into this new project file's capture folder. If this is a viable strategy, am I gonna have to seriously worry about the integrity of my old media files being compromised in a transfer from one drive to the other?
By the way, the apple store in my town told me I'd be able to return the 250GB in exchange for the 500GB where the price I paid for the old drive would go toward the new.
If anybody could tell me if I have a sound strategy or not, I'd appreicate it. Thanks.

I've been wondering what your reasons are in general for having to move project and media files around?
For my own situation, I merely wanted to continue my work on a larger drive as I expect I'll be needing the space. I'd come to two solutions for transfering my work.
One was to disconnect the actual media files in my Scratch Capture folder from the clips in the browser that connect to them via a filepath. Transfer everything through the Finder, then reopen my project from the new drive and reconnect the offline clips in my browser to the media files, but this time using a filepath that would lead directly to my new drive.
I didn't do that though, but I suspect it would have worked and might have been easier than the solution I picked, which was -
I used the Media Manager in FinalCut Pro. Through the Media Manager I just selected my project and all it's work and had it made a copy to a new drive. Actually I never used the Media Manager before but after looking into it's capabilities I'm definately going to have to keep it mind for my future project strategies.
    Think about it.

  • How to move safari cache file to another location

How do I do this?  I want to either move it to a RAM drive, or to an SSD drive that is inserted into the Expresscard 34 slot.
My safari cache is about 6 GB... I hold about 175 tabs open at all times and the constant background refreshing can make things freeze up.
Or I could turn in off via the Develop Menu...

Better to never move system files from the location they presently. Safari may not launch at all.
Best to select: Disable Caches from the Develop menu.

However to answer your question, in itunes right click the movie, go to properties, then go to options, where it has media kind put it to tv show

  • Move my media files

If I move my media files to a second EHD will time machine back up the media on the first EHD?  How many EHD can run time machine?

I have iTunes on a Mac with the iTunes Media folder stored locally and the music on an external USB-HD. The music files are Not copied to iTunes Media folder when added to the library.
How are you achieving the above? What are your copy setting in preferences? If you are manually overriding the copy-to by holding down the option key while adding media then that won't apply when you import a playlist (as in importing the .xml).  When you import a playlist like that you are essentially adding the files to the library again and it will obey the  preferences setting since you can't option add them that way.
Correct on the .itl.  Only iTunes itself can edit that file.
I think you need to review your basic wants/needs in doing all this.  If your reason for not wanting to use the Media Folder settiing is because you do not want it to go on the internal drive, but you don't actually mind if it organizes it as long as it is on the NAS, change the Media Folder preferences setting to the NAS and let it consolidate to there.  If you want to move the stuff but keep it organized in your own folder structure you may need to do it as I suggested initially.  Once it is on the NAS and iTunes recognize the file locations you can do what you can only do if you manually manage music which is move it around in Finder afterward once it is on the drive and recognized to tweak location to your final wishes.

  • How to have original media files outside libray

I have recently upgraded to 10.1.3 and use the new libraries functionality. I have created different libraries for my projects (by year) and consolidate the project, so, now, I have an event with video files and project inside.
I have realize that I have the original video files inside the library file, so it means that now I have all my videos duplicated, one time on the original folder where I copied, and other inside the library.
I would like to maintain videos outside of final cut library, and do not make sense to maintain also duplicated on the library (I also have a back up on a network drive).
There is an easy way to “link” event files to original location outside of the library? Or I have to manually delete and fix one by one?
    Thanks in advance.

Follow Tom's advice, which tells you how to move the media outside the library - but don't try to move them over the original ones.
At this point, you'll still have two copies of the clips - in the original folder and one on the folder you now selected.
As Tom pointed out, you'll now have symlinks in your library. Now comes the thrilling part.
    1) Erase the recently moved clips - all the clips will be offline, showing as red in FCP X.
    2) Use the Relink functionality to point them to the original folder. FCP X is clever enough that you need only select a superfolder containing the media, even if different clips lay there inside different subfolders.
This should all run smoothly, BUT... As always, back things up first - namely, your library - before doing potentially dangerous thinks like deleting your precious files.

  • How to move(migrate) OAF files(class files,PG files) using tool(Kintana)

    Hi,
    How to move(migrate) OAF files(class files,PG files) using tools(Kintana).
Just want to know process for moving(migrating) OAF Files(class,PG) one instance to over instance(i.e dev to testing) using tools like kintana. We are planning to PVCS as versioning tool.
    Thanks

New Line Types need to be added to Kintana Workflows and these line types should be able to use the xmlimport/xmlexport scripts.
We have customized Kintana to migrate forms personalizations using FNDLOAD.
I think, Change Management team should be able to address this.

  • How to Find Lurking Media Files

    Hi,
I'm trying to clear off a mac mini so I can sell it. The only software on it is Final Cut Express, Soundtrack, LiveType and iLife '05. I deleted everything out of iTunes, and I thought all media files and renders from the couple projects I had in Final Cut Xpress. My problem is there is still 18gigs being used from the internal SATA drive. I realize the software uses space - but not that much right? What could be lurking? How do I find media files if maybe all I really did was delete names and not the actual media??? Any help/insight appreciated!! Thanks.

OK, I went to whatsize (kind folks over in mac mini forum directed me there too!) and from another forum there, I learned how to make the finder show me the size of everything. I don't have any lurking media files as I feared, but it seems LiveType is a big space hog! Does this sound right - almost 8 gigs for LiveType Data folder? The entire Library Folder is over 11 Gigs combined - please forgive how completely un-informed and newbie I must sound....

  • Documents and media files on separate drive

How do I set up my MacPro so my documents and media files (iTunes library, iPhoto library, Movies) are on a separate drive from my system/startup drive?

You can move the "Documents" folder to another drive. There is nothing special about any folders, but some applications may expect them to be in certain places, and might recreate them if they are not there. File locations are up to the individual applications. Usually you can set things in the preferences.

I click on "add to library" and the file shows up in my iTunes media file, but not in my iTunes.

That didn't work - I'm so confused - it just doesn't make sense.  How could it be there, but not show up on itunes???

  • I re-installed XP and kept the old program files on another drive, how can I transfer my bookmarks list to the new Firefox ?

I re-installed XP and kept the old program files on another drive, how can I transfer my bookmarks list to the new Firefox ?
I tried shifting the Profile folder contents from the old to the new, that seemed to work but I kept getting a message that my security was affected and that the problem could be in that folder so I shifted it back.

    Hello Kencrews,
When you connect the iPod to the computer and iTunes is authorized for your Apple ID, then you will get a prompt to transfer the purchases from the device to the computer. Keep in mind this will only transfer purchased items from the iTunes Store.
Here is a helpful article to assist getting that done.

  • How to open Adobe Reader file from another native IOS application?

There is an existing thread, but I want to re-open it because I think this is an important feature that we need badly.  I was wondering if there is any plan to add this feature so we can open PDFs directly into Adobe from the web / other apps.
How to open Adobe Reader file from another native IOS application?
Basically, we just want to use a custom URL scheme to open a specific document in the App.  Currently, this only opens the app but does not load the file.
    APB

Not to hijack the conversation but I can explain why this would be useful for both the above case and another.
What I believe Pavel is talking about is setting up a "URL Scheme" for the Adobe Acrobat iOS application so that you can easily open a PDF specifically in Adobe Acrobat iOS from other native applications and even from web applications opened within Safari. This is particularly useful if your application requires some of the specific features in Adobe Reader iOS to grant them the best experience possible and you want to encourage this.
Another case: If you're using Adobe Livecycle's document security modules (that encrypts PDF files so that Adobe Acrobat must "phone home" to decrypt and view the document), these PDF's can only be viewed inside the Adobe Acrobat application and appear as blank in most other PDF readers. Having a URL scheme allows your application utilising this functionality to have a 1 click step to view the PDF rather than the current non-user friendly process:
    - Within Safari, touch the PDF link (appears as blank in the default Safari PDF reader, which in itself is confusing)
      - Touch "Open in..."
      - Touch "Adobe Acrobat"
We have an immediate need for this functionality for the example above. I can resubmit it in a separate post if necessary.
