HT1391 Purchased items - icloud downloads to hard drive

I have a new MacBook Air and have just purchased my first movie since having this Mac.  The purchase has gone to icloud only it seems and I can't find how to download it to my itunes library on my hard drive.  Have tried "check for available downloads" in the store menu but this just keeps listing the film over and over again in the purchased playlist and they are all 'greyed' out.  I can play the movie on my Mac and on my apple TV via icloud but would rather have it on my hard drive.  Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or how I need to set this up so that all purchases go to my itunes library on my hard drive?

  • Old Purchases Not Re-Downloading Since Hard Drive Format

Awhile back, I decided to reformat my hard drive due to certain personal effects being compromised. I've re-downloaded iTunes, and my old purchases (which show up in my purchase history) will not restore themselves. I've tried re-"buy"ing them (as far as I can go without actually telling it to charge my card), but that doesn't work either.
Does anyone know how in the **** I can get all of my old songs back?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, basic indeed. It is also assumed that Time Machine will work as advertised. My HDD crashed last night, Apple store fixed it today, and I excitedly bring home my comp and plug in time machine drive... oh wait it never backed up, just made a 3mb file. So for months my Time Machine has been telling me backups are complete, and all I have is a 3MB file that the computer can't even read.
So glad I switched to Apple. And really glad for smart guys like you.

  • Downloading old hard drive from crashed computer

Is there a ESATA connection on my HP Envy 20. I'm trying to download the hard drive from my old computer. I removed the hard drive and purchased a BlacX Hard Drive ESATA Docking Station. If this isn't the correct way to download it, what do i need to use?

When requesting assistance, lease provide the complete HP model name and/or product number of the computer in question.
Most likely your computer doesn't have an eSATA port but should have USB 2.0 and/or 3.0 ports. If the "Thermaltake BlacX eSATA Docking Station" has a USB port in addition to the mentioned eSATA port and your old hard drive is a 2.5" or 3.5" SATA hard drive, then you will be able to use the docking station. If it doesn't have a USB port or your hard drive is IDE/PATA, then you will need a diffferent external device.

  • Blocking downloads to hard drive, but not flash drives

Blocking downloads to hard drive, but not flash drives
A nonprofit has asked me to configure new Windows 7 computers so that all content is BLOCKED from the hard drive, but any downloads may be downloaded to the individual's flash drive.
The nonprofit allows individuals to play games, check e-mails, but we have a problem with them trying to upgrade Firefox, Google, etc.
They want all configuration to the DEFAULT STATUS after a person log off the computer....no upgrades to any programs!
I will occasionally upgrade programs once a month or so, as the volunteer administrator.
They have changed the controls from Windows ME and XP, when I was a computer programmer and installer (I also worked during Windows 3.11, 95 and 98/98 SE versions as well)...
    Anyone help me, please?

    1. You can change security with cacls function. However if you do it in wrong way, you can cut the branch you are sitting on:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490872.aspx
    2. If you are working in Active Directory, consider Group Policy
    3. Consider third pty software for granular access control (DeviceLock,...)
    4. There is nearly nothing that you can transfer from previous technologies. (Even nice
steady state in Windows XP has no continuation. Consider
    kiosk mode in Windows 8.1)

How do I move a file from Icloud to my hard drive?

From the appropriate application (eg, Pages, TextEdit, etc) find your file(s) in iCloud (use File - Open), then highlight (you can multiple-select) the files you want to move, and drag them to your desktop or another Finder location.

I use the LaCie's, I've got three connected to my system and a 4th acting as my TM drive on my MacBook Air. Any of the above would be welcome on my desk though.

My Power supply has gone out, if I get a new desktop can I download the hard drive of the old to the new without the power supply

If you call around, you might be able to find an apple authorized repair shop in your area that can offer to put pull the hard dive out of the old computer and put it into an external hard drive.

The hard drive for my MacBook Pro recently crashed.  I purchased and installed a new hard drive (i.e. a Samsung SSD).  When I try to re-install the Mac operating system, I come to the part of the installation instructions where you are asked to choose a disk to install the software.  However, there is no disk listed in the selection screen.  Why is there no disk in the selection screen?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You haven't formatted the SSD, so you can't install Mac OS X.
First, close the OS X installer and open Disk Utility. Then, choose the SSD at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab, choose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as "Format", and press Erase. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

Hi,does anyone know how the Iwatch will play music when it is not near a bluetooth device as it is stated in the feature setting..Icloud streaming, internal hard drive?

I did not hear them state the feature requirements directly in the streaming even but there are statements on the Apple website that clearly say that an iPhone is necessary.  I'm guessing that other than Bluetooth for pairing with the iPhone, it's just not technically possible to fit any other radios such as WiFi or LTE into that form factor or battery capacity.  I don't even remember them mentioning if it had a speaker or could pair directly with bluetooth headphones.
While I'm hoping that the watch has a reasonable stand-alone feature set, they didn't make it clear what exactly it can and can't do without an iPhone nearby.  I also hope that they communicate this better in the coming days.

  • I've purchased a two 3TB Seagate hard drives that I'd like to use tosetup as time machine how do I go about this.

I'd like to set up Time Machine with an external hard drive. I've purchased two 3 TB Seagate hard drives and a Nex Star port. I can't find it on my computer. Mac OS X 10.6.8

I assume that you are asking about USB connections here, correct?
And, that the "Nex Star port" is a USB hub of some sorts, correct? ( I could not find this product on a quick Google search)
Please connect one of the Seagate hard drives directly to your Mac, bypassing the USB hub that you might have and check to see if the drive appears on the Mac's desktop. Then, eject the drive and check the other Seagate drive to make sure that it appears on the Mac's desktop.
If both drives appear when you test them with a direct connection to the Mac, then the next check would be to connect both drives to the USB hub, and then connect the hub to the USB port on the Mac.
If you do not see both drives appear on the Mac's desktop, then you may have a defective USB hub, or, if the hub does not have its own power supply,  you may need a powered USB hub.
Once you have determined that the USB hub is working correctly, then please check the format of the hard drives. Time Machine requires a drive to be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled)....also known as HFS+.
Examine the documentation that came with the drives to see how they are formatted. If you see something to the effect that the drives are formatted for both PC and Mac, then the drive is not formatted correctly for use with Time Machine.
    Please report on your results.

  • Re-downloading iTunes purchases once deleted from your hard drive

OK - any help will be greatly appreciated.
I work abroad a lot and download iTunes purchases to watch while away.  However, the files take up a lot of space on my MacBook Air, so, once watched, I've deleted them from my hard drive to free up space once I'm home.
Now, when I want to see them again, I go into iTunes, each episode has an exclamation point on the left hand side, no cloud icon to be seen, and when I click on it, I get the message:
The TV show could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?
It can't be located on my computer because I deleted it from my hard drive to free up space.
So why can't I just re-download it from iTunes - I have, after all, paid for it?
    Many thanks.

    Good day Jane,
As you surmise, the exclamation point symbol next to the song in iTunes means that iTunes can not find the file containing the video. See this article -
iTunes 12 for Mac: Symbols used in iTunes
In order to download the content again you will need to delete it from iTunes before downloading again. To delete the song select it in your music and use the Delete key. See this article -
iTunes 12 for Mac: Delete songs, playlists, or other items
Once the video is no longer in your iTunes library, you can download it again using the steps in this article. Note that this assumes that the item is still available in iTunes in your location. Items that have been removed from the store will not be available -

  • Can't download videos purchased from ITunes store onto hard drive

My video Ipod already contains a number of videos. However three recently purchased videos will not download onto the computer. Each time download is attempted the following error message appears " There was a problem downloading. The disk you are attempting to use is full. Removing files and emptying the Recycle bin will free up additional space". We have repeatedly checked and deleted any old stuff on the hard drive - there is plenty of free space yet we can't get the videos onto the computer!!!!!

    there is no longer a 20 GB ipod...only a 30 GB ($300) or 60 GB ($400)

I have a windows vista laptop and windows xp desktop, both have latest iTunes, have have my library on an external mybooklive hard disk, I consolidated the library to the external drive with the vista machine, and pointed the XP machine to the library, when purchasing music i can download from the Cloud to the drive, I have purchased a HD 1080 movie using Apple TV, the movie plays on the Apple TV but this is streaming from the cloud I have tried to download the movie using the XP & Vista machines from the cloud to my hard drive, but it will not download, I get a dialogue box that says,( "This cannot be played in HD on this computer" "if you buy the HD version, you will have to transfer an HD-compatible device in order to watch it. Or, you can buy the SD version and watch it on this computer" ),
I do not want to buy the SD version, I have already bought th HD version, I would like to store it on the external drive and stream to the Apple TV or my Ipad4, in the dialogue it says I can transfer to another device, only it will not download,

  • How to get songs back on iTunes once uploaded to iCloud & deleted off hard drive?

I have my 10,000 song library saved on an external hard drive.  I got the subscription to help limit used space on my laptop hard drive.  I started iTunes Match with my entire library (external drive) and uploaded my entire 10,000 songs.  Once completed I deleted everything from my iTunes program & unplugged my external.
Now my computer has absolutely no songs on it and I now expected to have access to my entire 10,000 song library from the cloud.  Once restarting my computer and iTunes I opened a library of all my songs visible in iCloud with download buttons but I was unable to actually click & download any of the songs that showed.
I turned off iTunes Match from the "Store" menu and turned it back on.  Now my library is completely empty but when I check the iTunes Match tab it tells me that I have 10,000 songs in iCloud waiting for me.
How do I get my songs???????

This sounds like an issue of the local iTunes client getting confused about the location and status of the library.
To use iTunes with all Song files on an external disk is straightforward if you have instructed it to find the Song files in that location.
A good route would be to connect the external hard drive such that iTunes client can see all your Song files as normal - check that you can both play your Songs and complete an Update iTunes Match.
Assuming all is well at this point you can instruct the iTunes client to delete all Songs keeping files and not requesting iCloud deletion.  At this stage all Songs should appear with a working download indicator against them.
If you now switch off iTunes Match.  Restart the iTunes client and create a new blank local library store on your computers internal disk, then switch on iTunes Match - all Songs will now appear.  You can complete a test download, it will simply store to your new library location.  From here you have the state you wished, all Songs accessible from the iCloud - with the ability to download should you choose.
