HT1399 Why do new updates always end in DISASTER?!?!

Is there a way to return your ipod back to what you had before an update was added? The newest update (which was FORCED on me, I did NOT want it) erased more than half of my songs, and replaced my playlists with apple suggested playlists, none of which I want. I'm SUPER frustrated! It is going to take me HOURS to figure this out. I NEED TO GO BACK IN TIME!

I actually agree with you here: this update WAS forced for me too: a dialogue box came up saying that my current version was corrupted or not installed correctly. iTunes wouldn't open for me unless I reinstalled. Which I did, but now when I click "Sync Music" I lose everything. (I obviously haven't synced anything since I reinstalled.) But even though I haven't synced, half of my library is missing. (106 songs and 14 whole albums) But all of my music is still saved in my iTunes folder? Nothing makes sense!
And what do you mean roaminggnome to use "my backup copy of my computer"?? I'm not sure what you're talking about...

Thats a hard question to answer. The iPhone 4 has older technology than newer models which can cause the device to lag. Depending on what data and settings you have on the device, it could run slower. I would probably make sure to constantly close apps in multitasking and possible think about restoring the device as a new device. Make sure to backup your data prior to the restore

the new update has slowed my computer down drastically. Sites load very slowly, and sometimes not at all. Then, it continually reverts to "Firefox Updated" page

Quit Safari.
Open Keychain Access /Applications/Utilities
Select Passwords on the left.
Delete all the keychains for the sites you have trouble logging into.
Relaunch Safari then go to Safari / Preferences, seleect the Autofill tab. Make sure: User names and passwords is selected.
Now select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies. Delete all cookies or just the ones for the sites you mentioned.
Navigate to a site. After entering your user name and password, you should be prompted to save that data, click Yes. That will create a new keychain for you.
if you still have problems, open Keychain Access again. From the menu bar click Keychain Acces / Keychain FirstAid. Enter your admin password then click Verify. If necessary, click Repair.

Why do Acrobat updates always lock up my computer?

I've a new computer, running Win 7, 64-bit, and I installed the latest Acrobat. When it asked to install an add-on, I agreed, and, of course, the computer locked up. This used to happen with my old computer whenever Acrobat wanted to install an update, and I've been told by others that this is typical of Acrobat. Any suggestions? or do I just suffer along with this behavior? Thanks.

I am a little concerned with what you said about add-ons. The updates are not generally called add-ons and there is a chance you got some notice that was not from Adobe and has a virus. Please check your notification carefully. At this point I would suggest you open Acrobat and go to the Help menu and do Repair, then followup with the Updates. You might want to turn off the auto-updates and just check periodically.

Why are Intel updates always fat binaries

I don't understand. Why are all the updates for Intel based Macs fat binaries? Is there a reason that they're not Intel only binaries? Possibly Rosetta needs the PPC versions? If not it seems like such a of waste bandwidth and hard drive space.

Just guessing, but that sounds about right. For example, some Safari plugins (e.g. Shockwave) are still PowerPC only - Safari won't pick this up unless it's run in Rosetta mode.

Why do itunes updates always break itunes? Everytime.

Nearly everytime theres an update for itunes, it breaks itunes. "Itunes can't start because msvrc80.dll is missing." Really? it was there a minute ago, before the update.How do I know? Because itunes was actually open and running when i performed the update. Is there some way to turn off update notifications? Cuz now I have to uninstall all apple products in order to re-install itunes.

Well, Apple recently added the capability in the Windows COM interface so that you can modify the file path of an iTunes track from an external program. So it is possible, but AFAIK no program exists to do it. I wanted to write a program to help people out who've moved stuff from one drive to another or one folder to another, but basically kept the path the same.
Unfortunately, if a track is already "broken", I can't read the old path via the COM interface (I asked for this, but they didn't oblige :'( ) ; I would have to read the old path from the XML file. If I was a better programmer I would write something that searches a folder you specify and attempts to match it up to the dead tracks in the Library. Alas, someone with more experience and education (and time) will have to do it!

If you are having issues with the Kindle app after the update, check out the article below to go through some general troubleshooting to get it to work. The first thing to try is to close out of the app entirely with one of the other steps to delete the app and download it again.

Connect your phone to your computer and open iTunes. Check what is says about "Other." Chances are you have a corrupt file that is taking up a lot of space. If you see that other is larger than a GB or so, you'll need to restore the phone to get rid of other.

Do not worry. Hold Sleep (the button you have at the top of the phone) and Home buttons at the same time until your phone restarts, and then try installing the iOS update again.

I notice that in the new update to Firefox if I have two bookmark folders with the same name Firefox will end up deleting one of them.

Both of these problems with the bookmarks started occurring after I installed the latest update to Firefox.
I frequently have bookmark folders of the same name under the older version of Firefox and it has never been a problem before. It is now, and I notice that after I've created two folders with the same name Firefox will end up deleting one of the folders, almost always the older of the two folders (the one created first, chronologically).
I have also noticed that with the new update Firefox will occasionally fail to open all bookmarks in Tabs if I've asked it to do so. I can simply close Firefox and reopen the program and it will work again, but I don't know why this bug is occuring in the first place.

You are using two IP address ranges.. which results in the printer being cut off from the other network..
Why do you have two networks?? It is always better in home situations to run one network.
If you have work setup with an enterprise level router you can setup routes between the two networks.. this is not possible on domestic level apple routers.

You already seem to know what the issue is, it is the parallax feature that was added to iOS 7. From your rant, it appears that your attempt to work around this was not successful. According to the Apple documents I've seen, they recommend that you enlarge your image (not reduce it). Make your image have excess space on all sides, which is not displayed on the screen. This way, when you tilt your device one direction or another, it can shift the image to give the appearance of 3D.
As a photographer, I like to use the full frame of my images, but I also know that I need to leave room around the image as well. I have some photos I have taken that I can't use because I have them cropped too tightly too, but I have others that work just fine. Just remember that part of the image file is "off screen" so that if iOS has to shift the image up it has some image that can scroll onto the screen. It needs this space on all sdes, so just make youre images larger, and keep in mind that a portion on each side will be outside the normally visible screen... If you don't like this feature, you can always go into the settigns and turn it off.
