Do I need to uninstall CS4 and reinstall?
Unfortunately yes.
Also run the Cleaner Tool prior to reinstalling
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Restoring from Time Machine backups invariably breaks the activation mechanism (Error 150:30) and there's no easy way to fix a 150:30 error other than via re-installing.

Error in Search after restore from backup
We recently had to restore our Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise farm from backup due to a failed attempt to move the SharePoint DB's to a new SQL server and now our search service is no longer working. It had been working fine before the restore mind you.
I took the recommended action of removing the search service (and related DB's) and adding a new one via Central Admin but that simply results in another broken service that won't work. I thought that perhaps running the Powershell script listed here
might help narrow down the problem:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/russmax/archive/2009/10/20/sharepoint-2010-configuring-search-service-application-using-powershell.aspx
I assumed this would allow me to see where the process is failing. So after updating the variables to meet our environment, here's the step that fails:
$SSI = get-spenterprisesearchserviceinstance -local
Start-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance -Identity $SSI
The error is as follows:
Start-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance : Unable to cast COM object of type "Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.MSSITLB.CGatheringManagerClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.MSSITLB.IGatherManagerAdmin3'. This
operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{0FF1CE14-013A-0000-0000-000000000000}' failed due to the following error: Error loading type library/DLL. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80029C4A (TYPE_E_CANTLOADLIBRARY)).
I can't seem to find resolution to this error via Google. Anyone have any thoughts?Hi mbrowning01,
The issue may be caused by the permissions problem. When you open the PowerShell command, please make sure you “run as administrator”.
SharePoint 2010 Management Shell must be launched with elevated administrative permission by selecting Run as administrator.

Try:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- Anything else here
iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses

- Wait if it is an Apple problem -
after the factory reset ipod is still disabled and says connect to itunes ??
HELP!!Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode. -
HT1414 still has white screen after restore
I still have a white screen after restart and restore
If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store..

Hi, I have a MacPro, with mavericks. I have to change the hard disk because it failed, and now I want to restore my system.
I have a copy in another disk, made with time machine. I used the migration assistant, the system recognized the copy;
I'm interested in restore all the system, the users, the applications, and all the information, then I selected all and the migration apparently
works because there are not error messages or nothing wrong, the only issue is that the current user has the same name of the user in the backup,
then the assistant asked if I want both users, I choose to keep only the one in the backup, after a while (1-2 hours). I logout, and with surprise there are not any users created.
I have to login as single user, reset the password for root, to be able to login into the computer again, and I can´t find the migrated user, or the applications, or the files.
I am looking in the forums, and help pages, but I can´t find the solution. Thanks in advanceThanks Eric, the migration of applications, worked (by choosing only this item ), I created a new user, try using time machine to restore the user, but appeared the message file ".journal" already exists, and didn't work; so I decided to transfer the data manually. Now I hope the things will work out.

After Restoring with Migration Assistant internet accounts are not working properly
Hello!
My Macbook Pro's HDD fried a week ago, so I swapped it for a new one. I had a backup from about 30mins before the issue happened, so I thought everything would go fine with Time Machine. Well, not quite. After installing Mac OS X Mavericks from the Disk Utility and telling the system to apply the latest backup on Migration Assistant during the installation, everything started up the way I left it, but several problems showed up and I have been trying to troubleshoot them.
Issues:
1. I used to have Facebook, Twitter and two Gmail accounts logged via the Internet Accounts preferences. Used the gmail accounts for notes, contacts and calendars. Now, they all show up on the menu, but when I click on any of them it tells me they aren't connected and asks me for their password. When I put it down, it gives me an "Unable to verify account" message. If I delete the accounts and try to reinsert them, I get the same message. What's even more weird: When I restart, they are all there again.
2. Notes doesn't update properly. It shows me all the notes up until like 4 weeks ago, and whenever I even click on the app's window, it tells me it can't connect to Gmail and asks me for its password again. Several other apps that require syncing, like Calendar, have the same issue.
Troubleshooting attempts:
1. It's not a problem with these accounts, as I've been able to sync them no problem if I create a new user. But I had some serious work being done and I don't really want to get a fresh start.
2. I tried doing a clean install and when the Migration Assistant showed up I asked to transfer everything except personal documents and data. It worked, but I lost all my personal files that are not on dropbox (not many, but there were a few important things). Also the wifi didn't connect at all, kept saying it was self assigning an IP or whatever. This did not happen before.
3. Not using migration assistant at all, but restarting the system and restoring a time machine backup, even an earlier one from that same day. Mac gets stuck on spinning wheel during boot :/
This killed my weekend's productivity already, as each clean install and time machine restoring takes 3hrs+. I don't know what to do at this point.
Macbook Pro, Early 2011, 13". Old HDD 320gb, new one 500gb. OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 (the backup is from 10.9.3)ragob66,

Try this:
*Accessing Time Machine Backups From Another User Account or Computer*
Yes, you can do this using the Time Machine interface.
Attach the drive containing the TM backups to your computer.
Control-click the TM icon in the dock and select "Browse Other Time Machine Disks...".
Highlight the desired disk and click “Use Selected Disk”. This will now allow you to browse those TM backups via the ‘time travel’ window. From here you can restore what files you need access to. Bear in mind that any files moved will have the permissions of that previous user account. Thus you may be prompted for the user name and password of that previous account. However, once verified you should be able to adjust “Sharing & Permissions” in the files “Get Info” window.
Let us know if this resolved your issue.

Time machine freezes after restore using migration assistant
after an erase/install done in an Apple Store, I restored my Mac Book from the Time Machine using the migration agent.
To do this I created a temporary admin account and performed the Restore of all users and contents in the backup.
Now logged in as my old user ID the time machine backup starts and identifies that the entire MacBook content needs to be backed up.
TM Backup runs through the prepairing stage and reaches the "Baccking up 'xxx' MB from 'yyy' GB" message.
Then it gets stuck after 120 MB has been backed up. I did run the backup for 2 entire nights in the 2nd night it got stuck after 0 kB had been backed up.
What to I need to do to get TM running again? If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the search box.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — anonymize before posting. -
TM Backup Volume after restoring with Migration Assistant
Hi there,
I recently restored my system from a time machine volume via migration assistant (NOT while first boot, because it hangs on caluculating amount of space there) to be able to use Boot Camp (my partition seemed to be too much fragmented). There are a whole bunch of files in older backups I still need. Therefor I need to know for sure if I can choose the external HDD with the old Backups as the new TM Backup Volume WITHOUT loosing my old backups.
I haven't found satisfying information about it in this forum but of course it is possible that I've overlooked it.
What do you think about it?
Thanks a lot!ragob66,

Hi, my iphone 5 encountered an unknown error while updating to iOS 7 via itunes and is now stuck in recovery mode and prompts me to restore the phone when I connect it to itunes but then I would lose all my data. I DO NOT have any back ups on itunes. Is there anyway to get out of recovery mode without restoring or recover data after a restore?
Or any other suggestions please? ThanksAs pdroth said, you should have gotten a backup made when you started the update of iOS. If you cannot find a backup, and the phone is in recovery mode, there are no futher suggestions to make. To get the phone working again you have to restore. You cannot force a backup at this time since it is already in recovery mode. It will not allow anything else but a restore at this point.
