Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

  • I cannot restore my iPad.  Error 23.  Any suggestions?

I cannot restore my iPad.  When I connect to iTunes, keep getting message error 23.  Not able to connect to iPad sotware update server.

These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

If you're not a developer then you really should not have upgraded.
I'm unsure how you can fix this as you have already done a back-up on iOS 7 and apple don't support firmware downgrades.

    Hi Eric Ferguson,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For troubleshooting on this, take a look at this article:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Cannot restore my iPad, help please?

So my iPad was locked after repeated wrong password attempts and I had to restore my iPad. I had never synced it to my laptop before. So, I downloaded iTunes on my laptop and followed the steps to restore my iPad.
It said I need a software update for my iPad before I can restore so I clicked agreed. The update needs FOUR hours. 3 hours remaining and my iPad suddenly disconnects and the same message pops up again: "iTunes cannot connect to the iPad because it locked...you must enter passcode.."!
So okay, I go through the whole process again, put my iPad in restore, says I need to update software before I can restore, still says 4 hours again.
Then the message pops up again!! And I lose my progress on the software update for the third time. I'm so frustrated!! Please help!!

If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • I cannot restore my ipad

I forgot my password so I know I have to restore my Ipad.  I have gone through the boards and they all state I have to go through certain steps.  I have done all the steps, but I keep getting the error message that My Ipad has a passcode and I need to enter that before continuing.  Well, if I knew the passcode I wouldn't need to do all that.  Any suggestions?  I have made sure I am up to date on all possible installs.  What else can I do?  Thanks.

What are the steps that you've done ? You've put the iPad into recovery mode ? From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 :
If you see one of following alerts, you need to erase the device:
"iTunes could not connect to the [device] because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the [device] before it can be used with iTunes."
"You haven't chosen to have [device] trust this computer"
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

  • IPad and iTunes cannot check for iOS updates. And iTunes cannot restore the iPad to 6.1.2.

    Hi.
I have iPad 4G 32GB A1460. NO JAILBREAK EVER. Recently I installed iOS 7 Beta 3 on it. And now when I go to Settings -> General -> Software Update I get the error message "Unable to Check for Update. An error occurred while checking for a software update." And that's all. No useful information actually.
I have tried to reboot the device but no luck. I have also tried to connect it to a PC and check for updates from iTunes. iTunes shows me a little different error message: "iTunes could not check for an update to the carrier settings for your iPad. An unknown error occurred (1651). Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." I checked the connection just in case and was convinced that the Internet connection is active. Does anyone know what's happening? I really don't like this.
OK, maybe the next iOS version isn't out yet. But what will happen if it is? Will I be forced to use 7.0 Beta 3 forever? I don't want to))
Another thing that I've tried to do is to restore my iPad to iOS 6.1.2. But the iTunes shows another error: "The iPad "<iPad name>" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194)." I tried this on Windows and Mac. On Mac I have a different message: "This device isn't eligible for the requested build" which seems to be the same thing as 3194-error on Windows.
Can anyone help me? Is there a reasonable explanation of this? Is this related to Apple's developers web site unavailability (http://devimages.apple.com/maintenance/)?
    Thanks in advance!

  • I cannot restore my ipad. I have tried all I know to do and I keep getting the same error message. That it cannot be restores (1).

Can someone give me tips on how to restore my ipad. It will not restore no matter what I try.

See this support document for help with restore errors. Resolve iOS update and restore errors
The problem is that most of the time the error 1 is generally a hardware error. However, follow the instructions in the support document and you may get by.

  • I cannot restore my iPad original

    Hello
I have an iPad original which suddenly and unexpectadly displayed the message that I need to connect to iTunes - as if the iPad was brand new. I connected to iTunes and the system attempted to restore the iPad. This processwas fine up until the part where the Firmware is updated. It then gave the message of an unknown error. I have tried this on several computers with the same response. I guess the iPad has a hardware malfunction of some sort but any advice appreciated.
    Kevin

    Is itunes the latest version?
If you've tried this on several computers then it might be a hardware issue.
    You can try DFU mode
