HT1414 error:  *we are unable to continue with your activation at this time*

is there anyone can help me how activate my iphone 3gs when i have tried to update it from IOS 4.1 to IOS 6 , but now there is just an activation form on my iphone screen that i need to connect to WIFi to be able to activate it or connect to I TUNES. i don't have any access to WiFi and when i connect my Iphone to ITunes an error comes : we are unable to continue with your activation at this time
i've tried this about ten times but the results is still same, i mean nothing
if anyone can tell me what to do i'll be happy

Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Where did you acquire this iPhone?
What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

    "We're Sorry, Activation Server Temporarily Unavailable, contact Customer Care...Could Not Be Completed?"
    99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
    So, you need to get a sim card from the carrier the phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked.

    Resolution
    Perform the following steps if you receive one of the messages above:
    Restart the iPhone.
    Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
    Try connecting to Wi-Fi if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
    Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
    Restore the iPhone.
    If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Applefor assistance.

    I have phoned 3 and they said that the apple servers are down and I'll 95% be able to activate it soon. After reading some posts on here I don't quite believe that will be the case. Who has honestly solved this problem and how? My phones just a dead brick at the moment.
    Also the signal bar in the top left corner is none existant and just says searching. I want to know if it's meant to not find the network until after activation? Or should it already be finding it?

    I know its been a while since this question was posted, but i've just had the same message and it took me ages to work out how to resolve it - and I didn't see the solution on any other post so i thought i'd share mine.  This may not resolve everyone's problem, and there is a post from jhidrowoh that gives other solutions, but my solution turns out to be simple.
    I simply hadnt put the sim card in the phone.  i suspect that the same problem may happen if the phone has no signal.  once i put a valid sim card in the phone, the itunes activation screen came up. 
    i presume they do this to ensure the phones are tied to a particular network?
    Anyway, I'm now a happy bunny on Xmas day!

    Where, exactly, did you get the phone?
    The term "factory unlocked" has no meaning. Apple does not use that term anywhere. iPhones are either locked, unlocked (either purchased directly from Apple or in a country where all iPhones are unlocked) or unlocked by the original carrier.
    If you purchased a "factory unlocked" phone from an unauthorized source, or you went to a shop or a web site and had it "factory unlocked", it was hacked. Not legitimately unlocked.

    Same deal. I was getting Error 3194 then I got the we're unable to contact servers thing. I've had tons of issues with iPhone software lately and enough so on my last 2 devices to have it replaced by a new iPhone that continues to act up as of now. I've had issues with updating apps on the phone and now updating to new versions of iOS since 4 came out. Apple has not been helpful in this situation and now want $30 just to help since they don't allow AT&T access to help. This is getting to be such a pain and def a reason I don't want the next iPhone if this is the kind of service I'm getting.

    Hmm, well... iTunes trys to activate your iPod using the Apple server to make sure you have bought it legit.
    Two things come into my mind:
    1) Your iTunes can't access the internet.
    2) Apples activation servers are down.
    That's just my cents, maybe anyone else has an idea.

    If the iPhone was hacked and unlocked via unofficial means, it has become locked again. Insert original SIM in the phone to activate with iTunes.

    I am in exactly the same problem here as this person. Exactly the same problem.
    No, it was not jailbroken. And now because it's in this loop, there's no ability to restore and such on itunes as the only option now is ever 'eject'.
