HT1414 Has anyone ever upgraded to ios6 and then told your phone was in recovery mode an had to restore it
Just tried to update my moms phone to IOS6 and now it says her phone is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. What does this mean is she going to lose everything
Not if you did as you always should and make sure that everything is on your copmputer before updating.

So tonight I updated my 4s over 3g to ios 7.1 it took forever and said connect to itunes. It said it was in recovery mode & needed to be restored but would wipe all content. I have never made a backup because my computers hard drive crashed (luckily the pics were on the phone) and now after updating like apple said I should it wants me to wipe my phone... I can't loose pics of my kids births and birthdays... I tried the holding buttons and letting off to exit recovery mode with no success... I don't know what to do but I swear if apple makes me loose the priceless pics of my kids I will never buy any apple device ever again... and I will make sure no family or friend ever does either... there has to be a way somehow.. some data recovery some program... I dunno if tinyumbrella can exit it for me without hacking or jailbreaking (which I don't dare/want to do) but i need a solution. I have researched this for hours and hours with no solution so far. If I have to pay $$ for it fine I will but after I recover my data that way I will be going to samsung... anyone with a solution would be greatly appreciated... any solution...
that makes no sense... it was only doing an update... if that's the case it should have promted me to back up first if this is even possible... there is a program that says it can recovery anything that hasn't been written over yet.. so would this not work? http://www.iphone-data-recovery.com/iphone-data-recovery.html or would the apple store be able to recover it??? i've done plenty of data recovery on computers... why wouldn't it be possible on an Iphone... does apple seriously not care about thier customers at all??? how about thier employees that are gonna get more than an earful tomorrow when I walk in there store??? No wonder samsung paid 2 million to apple in pennies when they got sued... (how does it feel to be screwed with apple?!)

This morning the Iphone prompted me to update software. After that it said my phone was in recovery mode and I had the restore my phone. Now most of the apps are muted and don't respond, help!
First, in iTunes, launch Preferences and go to the Devices tab. Check the date and time of the last backup. If it is recent you can restore it. However, if you mean you have the photos back in your Camera Roll then the backup was already restored. To get your music and apps back it should just be necessary to click "Sync".

HT4623 Updating from OS 6.0 to 6.1 and almost instantaneously my phone goes into recovery mode??!
I was running on battery but I had 98% and receieved no warning like I did when I was on 48% (it told me I need 50% to do update). I was at home attached to my own wifi network.
So I clicked ok on the agreement and clicked in Install. After about 5 seconds the screen when black and the Apple logo came up. Then after another minute the screen changed to show a USB cable should be plugged into iTunes!!! *** I thought. So I plug into my MacBook and in iTunes it says my phone is in recovery mode and I need to wipe it clean back to factory settings!!! Are they joking? Seriously trying to tell me that a simple 47mb OS update failed after less than a minute.... and now my phone is trashed!
I have some apps on the Cloud but I don't keep sensitive data on the Cloud. So question is do I really have to go through a recovery and lose all my photos, phone contacts, notes, calender, and especially my disctaphone recordings?? Surely these should be recoverable be I have 'return my iPhone back to factory defaults.
Help! Or iPhone is going in the trash and i'll move back to Windows OS phone. I've owned Macs since 1987 (and am on my 6 generation machine) but after issues with iPods held of moving to an iPhone for this very reason.
So question is a) will a wipe back to factory setting wipe everything? b) is there a way to get saved files off the iPhone before this happens?

PipManaged to sort my problem - used TinyUmbrella, but not sure if I did something odd, but after using that and then trying to restore, I got the error "this device isn't eligble for the requested build".
Found a solutions to this here:

Doing the manually editing the host file route got rid of that error and then I was able to restore as normal. -
Error 3194 on iPhone 5 after plugging into PC laptop and trying to install new software. Told it was in recovery mode and to restore iPhone.

Has anyone ever "lost" their library and all their playlists??
When I first looked at my library today, all the songs (I have about 300 on my nano) were gone!!!! How can I get them back? I am worried that if I sync my Ipod I'll loose them for good!
iPads are not exact laptop replacements. If you need to be using Photoshop, then buy a normal laptop computer.
Using a remote access app on an IPad or any tablet conputer to remote access your computer to operate will be quite a lot slower and clumsier than just having a laptop with a normal OS and Photoshop application installed. -
my 2g iphone is stuck in recovery mode after trying to restore it with the latest itune version. It does have a sim card but is not connect it ,I was only using it with wi-fi. Now i-tune will not connect it only show i-phone. I did manage to restore it again ,but then it will go back to restore mode.

While downloading iOs7 on my iPhone 4 stopped with a screen indicating it needed to connect with iTunes. I can turn the phone off and on, but the screen with the iTunes and plug does not change. I tried connecting to my computer with iTunes open and the computer message indicated that the phone was in recovery mode. Any suggestions?
Yes. Plug it into your computer and restore it. Once it's in recovery mode, that's your only option.

I was updating my iphone 4 on computer on itunes. After 45 mins or so, I got message that software was updated. But my iphone needed to be restored as it is in recovery mode. it staes that all data will be deleted!! Will I be able to recover data, apps, photos, etc? My phone will not even allow me to use it....it just has picture of itunes with connector on screen. HELP!
If your phone is in recovery mode, you've already lost ALL of the data on the phone. Your only choice now is to restore it from your most recent backup. You follow this by syncing your content back to your phone. Any data, on your phone, not backed up or in supported applications on your computer, is gone. iTunes content you can re-download for free.

i dont think i backed up my photos to my pc.the right side of my screen is broken and i dont have my passcode while my phone is in recovery mode. my pc says to restore so i can get into itunes. if i didn't backup my photos will i lose them all?? how do i back them up at this point???? please help
If your phone is in recovery mode, then they are already gone.

I can't restore my iPhone 4. It went nuts today. Went to "voice control", called people on my contact list, home button is dead. Thought a sync would help. New software available. Did download. Can't load anything. Phone in "recovery mode" do restore. OOPS! I did restore, and then am told the phone is in recovery mode, do it all again. OK I have. Same message. HELP!
Thanks Larry. I ended up at the genius bar at the local Apple store. My home button had died which is why the phone was constantly going to Voice Control. The phone was replaced. Thanks for answering. I checked out the link and ordinarily that would have done the trick.
