HT1414 how do you reset your password if you have forgotten it

I am trying to restore my iphone3 everything ok till it asked for the password on my encryption i have forgotten it how can I restore my phones settings from the encrypted backup

You can't. If you can't rememeber your password, you will have to delete all of your existing backups & restore your phone as a new device. In essence, you start over.

If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the
Back Up option. If you have just backed up the device, it is not necessary
              to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore or have forgotten your restrictions passcode, then restore as New.
If you are restoring to fix a forgotten Restrictions Code or as a New device, then skip Step 9 and restore as New.

Turn off passcode, then re-enable such. Note: if you have an Exchange account, the requirement to use a non-simple passcode can be enforced by a profile installed on your phone when setting up the Exchange account.

  • If you have an itunes acct that was not set up to share and the lap top it was on is no longer working, is there a way to open up the old itunes acct to get music and photos?  This was before icloud was available, can you reset your password?

If you have an itunes acct that was not set up to share and the lap top it was on is no longer working, is there a way to open up the old itunes acct to get music and photos off of it?  This was before Icloud was available.  Can you reset your itunes password somehow?

iTunes and the iTunes Store won't have anything to do with your photos. Those would be stored only on your laptop unless you made a backup of some sort. If you didn't, and the hard drive in your laptop has failed, then your photos are gone unless you wish to pay a disk recovery service a lot of money to try and get them back.
As to your music, if you purchased it from the iTunes Store you can probably re-download it. Go to the iTunes Store, log into your account, and click the Purchases link under the Quick Links. From there you should be able to re-download some or all of your purchased content. Note that not all content has been licensed for re-downloading in all countries at this time. You can see what content you can download here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085
You can also re-download content using an iOS device.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:

  • How can you reset a password if you received the computer from another owner and they didn't give you the CD that came with the computer or the password

I brought a MacBook Pro on ebay and the owner didn't send the CD and it is still password locked. How can I get into the computer?

You have posted to the OS X Server forum, your question is Mac computer question.
Which password - account password, firmware password?
You should get the CD and/or password from the seller or take the unit to an Apple service center. There are many pages, some dubious, about how to get into Macs but I am not going to post them here. If you are legit you will not mind taking the machine into an Apple service center.
