HT1414 I cannot find Personal Hotspot on my iPhone 4 eventhough my carrier says that it is activated

I have activated Personal Hotspot with my carrier AT&T.  I cannot however find Personal Hotspot listed under General>Network setting.  I have tried to Reset Network settings but it is still not appearing.  I am running an iPhone 4 with the latest iOS 5.1.  I understand that this is known bug.  How do I fix this issue?

I went through every known fix with them and they stated that this was a known issue with iOS5.1 on the iPhone 4.  I Reset my Network Settings, I tried Reboot, Disable and Enable Cellular Data, but Personal Hotspot does not appear on my phone.  I was told by AT&T that Apple has posted this somewhere as a known issue with a fix.

  • I cannot use personal hotspot on my iphone 4 after update ios 7.1

I cannot use personal hotspot on my iphone 4 after update ios 7.1. Please help me.

The update may have caused a change in identification for the network. Also, you never answered if the network appears ready on the phone to share. You may have to reset the network, and forget the network on the iPod Touch and the computer before attempting to connect again.

  • After the last update(7.1.2) i couldn't find personal hotspot in my iPad 2.

after the last update(7.1.2) i couldn't find personal hotspot in my iPad 2 Wifi+Cellular. I did everything like reset network setting, restore to factory setting and set up as a new iPad but no change. My iPhone 5's carrier is 16.2 and after update to 7.1.2 it automatically ask me for carrier update but my iPad 2 ask nothing and the carrier is 16.1. Please, help me to solve this problem.

The Personal Hotspot feature is not available on the iPad 2. I have no idea how you could have been using it before as you claim. BTW, your screenshots do not show up.
    System requirements
The table below lists the iPhone and iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular models) capable of Personal Hotspot and which connections they can use to share cellular data with another device:
    USB
    Bluetooth
    Wi-Fi
    iPhone 4 or later

    iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G*

iPad (3rd generation or later) Wi-Fi + Cellular

    iPad mini Wi-Fi + Cellular

    * On iPhone 3G, Personal Hotspot is referred to as Internet tethering.
To connect to a Personal Hotspot, your device requires:
    Wi-Fi: Support for 802.11g/n using WPA2 encryption.
USB: Mac or PC with iTunes 9.2 or later installed.
Bluetooth: Mac OS X v10.4.11 or Windows.

  • I just updated my iPhone 4s iOS to iOS 8 and but can no longer find personal hotspot, How and where can I find it on my iPhone 4s

I just updated my iPhone 4s iOS to iOS 8 and but can no longer find personal hotspot, How and where can I find it on my iPhone 4s.
Usually I share my internet with other device with ios7 but now that I have ios8 on my iPhone 4s I can no longer find the personal hotspot. How can I share internet with other device using ios8 on my iPhone 4s?

Settings>Cellular>Personal Hotspot. The carrier has to support this for you. This is where you should find the setting to turn it on or off.

Do you pay for a tethering plan? This is a feature that has to be activated by your carrier and is generally NOT free.

Your carrier has to support it and you generally have to pay for a tethering plan. Here is a list of supported carriers, noting which ones support Personal Hotspot: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937

That's great.  Thanks for sharing.  Now what's your question?

  • I can't find Personal Hotspot or Set Up Personal Hotspot on my 4s, does it have to be downloaded? From where?

I can't find Personal Hotspot or Set Up Personal Hotspot in Settings on my 4s, does it have to be downloaded first? From where? I can't find it in the app store.

You must be using a supported carrier that supports the personal Hotspot feature, and you must subscribe to a data plan that permits tethering. Your account must be provisioned properly for an iPhone.
A list of carriers, including which ones support this feature can be found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937

  • Ipad 2 loosing personal hotspot link to iphone 4

    The issue is;
I have a iphone 4 from verizon.  I have a ipad 2 wifi, no 3g.  I bring up the personal hotspot on the iphone and connect the ipad via wifi.  The link connection appears and then starts to blink randomly and disconnects in a matter of a few seconds.  There are time I have a connection for about 30 seconds and then it is gone al together.  I have tried all of the regular steps, forgetting the network, reset network settings, etc. short of restoring the devices, which I find hard to believe is a solution to the issue.  Both devices have the most up to date software, both devices are able to connect to other wifi sources.  The hotspot can be seen by other devices and can support attachments to other devices, laptops etc.   Since both devices can connect to other wifi sources I have a hard time believing its a wifi issue.  I'm starting to think this is a proximity issue, or signal interference.

I think you are running into the following issue.
    From: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2756
Note: If you leave the Personal Hotspot screen or put iPhone to sleep, iPhone only broadcasts the Wi-Fi network for an additional 90 seconds. If no devices join the Wi-Fi network during that time, iPhone 4 stops broadcasting your Wi-Fi network. You can start broadcasting your Wi-Fi network again by tapping Settings > Personal Hotspot.
So, if I understand correctly, if you you leave your iphone on the the Settings --> Personal Hotspot screen, than it shouldn't disconnect.

  • Why do I drop my personal hotspot from my iphone to ipad whenever my ipad goes to sleep?

OK, so I have the new ipad wifi only. Whenever there isn't a wifi signal around, I turn on my Personal hotspot from my iphone and sync internet via Bluetooth. First, the process to recognize pairing always seems to be sporadic. It takes a long time for my ipad to see my iphone's attempt to establish pairing. Most of the time I have to turn both Bluetooth's settings off and then on to establish pairing. Then, once I do gain a connection, if my ipad goes into Auto-Lock after 2 minutes of inactivity, my pairing is lost and I have to start the proess all over again. It's very annoying. Any suggestions would be great appreciated.
