HT1414 I forgot my password to restore my iphone from a backup..Help?
I am trying to retrieve my contacts on my iphone, only my yahoo contacts are showing up.
Not sure what I did to lose all my contacts.
I do not remember even putting a password on the iphone but I guess I did.
I have tried every password I can think of and nothing works
Help please!
Thank you
There's no way to get past that password. That's sort of the point of a password.
If you do not remember the passcode you set up, then you have to restore from an earlier backup that does not have the passcode enabled.

I just restored my iPhone from a backup, and 17 apps couldn't be restored because "the app could not be found." But they're sitting right there in iTunes under Apps. What's up with that?
You haven't told us what you've done to troubleshoot thus far. What's up with that?

I restore my iPhone from a backup , and I lost the photos on the device. How can I restore them ?
is there anyway to help to :"?I thinks , I pressed restore, and then it restored everything from the previous backup. Unfortunately the most recent photos and videos were not included so I reckon they are lost forever...
Unless you have any suggestions? -
I restored my iphone from a backup that is about one month old (because all my contacts had disappeared). Is it possible to retrieve the text messages that occurred after that back up. They disappeared after the restore.
I don't know if I'm on the same page as you.
But if you backed up the phone with those contacts pictures notes etc, you should get them back.
After restoring your phone, use the back up that done when you had those contacts messages etc?? -
Suggestions before Restoring an iPhone from a backup.
I had my iPhone 4 replaced because of a problem with the home key ("known issue"). I was very well treated at the Apple Store.
I had made a backup of the iPhone prior to going to the Apple Store and was told to just "Restore from backup" when I got home and hooked it up (before doing anything else).
I went through the process and all of the folders, except one, disappeared and the apps were scattered about in a seemingly random manner. A small number of apps also did not make the trip. In speaking with Applecare, it was determined that this is the way things work at the present time, although there may be changes in the future.
So, here are the suggestions.
Make a backup and then a duplicate copy of the backup. (User > Library > Application Support > MobileSync > Backup. It would not be a bad idea to do a time machine update which can run while you are off to the store to get a new iPhone.
Make some notes or take screen shots of things in iTunes so that you will know what folders you have and what is in them and so on because you wlll need it to organize things afterwards.
Make sure that you have all of the user names, passwords and so on available for web sites, Wi-Fi Networks and so on. Be familiar with the voicemail procedures for your carrier. These things did not "make the trip" from the backup when I did it.
I was told by Applecare that within the last few weeks the App Store and iTunes now have the capability to recover apps you have purchased which may not appear after performing the "Restore from Backup" so it is probably a good idea to make sure that you have the current version of iTunes installed.
When you are rearranging the apps on the phone after the "Restore from Backup" it is probably easier to do so within iTunes using your mouse as compared to doing it on the iPhone itself. You can then sync to the iPhone and get things back to where you want them.
I hope this helps if you need to perform a "Restore from Backup".
P.S. My iOS is actually 4.3.5.Yes. You can restore an iPhone from backup by right-clicking it, under Devices on the left side of iTunes, and choosing Restore from Backup.

I accidentally cleared the messages from one contact on my iPhone. Is it possible to restore these from a previous backup?
When I got a new iPhone 3G I restored it from the last backup of my old phone, and in this case all of the messages were transferred. But how do I get a used iPhone to accept a backup?
Thanks guys,

I had to restore my iPhone from a abckup which I made last night, and when I did, it deleted all my apps. I don't mind, but the amount of space they took up is stilll being taken up on my phone, just in the "other" category. I don't understand why, and I will need to delete some of it so I can redownload the apps. How do I do this?

Can you restore an iPhone from a backup that was done from a different iPhone?
Here's the scenario. I've been backing up my iPhone 5 on iTunes so there's a backup file there but that iPhone is damaged and might not be recoverable. If I get a replacement phone, can I still use that backup file to restore the new phone despite the fact that it'll be a different serial number etc. than the phone the backup is based on? Can I restore an iPhone 4 as well as an iPhone 5 from that same backup file?
Hi Guchman,
Yes you can set up a new phone from a backup from another phone as long as the iOS is the same. Here is a support article that should help:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

I have just started using iCloud as I have always backed up everything on my iPhone to iTunes on my computer. So now I have everything backed up to my iCloud account as well. What I'm trying to ask is: Let's say I made a back up on iTunes on my computer last week. Then this week something happened to my phone and it starts to act weird or not work as well and I want to restore my phone to last week's back up. But let's say I have new things (texts, calendar, contacts, notes) added to my iPhone this week. If I just simply restore it to last week's backup, I'll obviously lose everything I did this week. However if today I save everything (my texts, contacts, calendar, and notes) on my iCloud, then restore to last week's backup, can I get everything I saved today on iCloud back? (Meaning everything I did this week)
iCloud should overwrite your phone with the data stored in your account, preserving your newer data. However, to be sure I would go to Settings>iCloud and turn data syncing to Off before restoring the backup. Then, after restoring the backup, turn the data syncing back to on, and when prompted about Merging with iCloud, choose Don't Merge. This will ensure that the data in your iCloud account overwrites the data on your phone (which is your goal).
Also, you don't sync text messages with iCloud so you will end up losing your more recent messages when they are overwritten by the backup. -
What Happens When I Restore My iPhone From a Backup
This a pretty simple question but nowhere can I find the answer. I had the iPhone 5 and got the 5s last month. I backed up all my stuff, and I just haven't put it back on yet. I have loads of pictures already from the past month and I don't want to lose them when I "restore from backup," but I want to restore. So when I do this, will it erase my current stuff? Thank you so much!!!!!
yes it will erase your pictures, you can transfer your pictures to a pc or mac and then restore your phone from the back up and later on you can tranfer your pictures to the phone.

Is there a way i can restore my iPhone from a backup but everything apart from settings?
Is there any way i can restore my iphone 4S from a backup after restoring it from factory settings but not applying my previous settings? as parental controls have been added, but passcode is forgotten and i now need to keep all my stuff on the iphone but get rid of parental controls!!
You can't chose what to include/exclude with a restore, you can restore the whole backup (including settings) or not restore. I'm assuming that the passcode was on the iPhone when you last backed up, in which case (apart from remembering it) the only way to remove the code is to restore back to factory defaults.

How can i restore my iphone from a back up that is not listed on itunes
I need to restore my iPhone from a backup that is not listed in the itunes backup section. I only did it at 6 pm yesterday. Is there a way to find this backup on my computer and return it to the itunes backup list?
Normally backups are incremental, and you can only restore the latest. EXCEPT that a backup of an earlier version is archived, and the first backup of the new version is thus complete. You should be able to restore a 6.1.4 backup to iOS 7. Click the Restore Backup button. The dialog that comes up should have a dropdown where you can select a backup to restore. If the old one does not show up it cannot be restored.
However, since you appear to have a Mac, if you use Time Machine you can restore an earlier backup over the current one from your Time Machine history.
You can also back up to iCloud, even if you don't sync to it. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5262
One well hidden feature (for future use) is archiving backups. If you go to iTunes Preferences/Devices, right click on the current backup and choose "Archive". The next backup you make will be a competely new one, and the old one will be preserved and can be restored at any time. -
Recently updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 6.1.3 and lost all of my contacts after doing so. Tried to restore phone to latest backup performed in iTunes but I get an error message that tells me there's not enough space on my iPhone to perform the restoration. The ultimate problem I'm trying to solve is the loss of my contacts so if there's another way to solve that please let me know. If restoring my phone is a proper solution please help me do so.
1. How do I get my contacts back?
2. How do I restore my iPhone from latest backup when getting "not enough space" error?
Please help!Contacts are not part of the backup. They are seperate and either you need to sync them with an email program such as outlook or use icloud mail, contacts, and calendars on the phone. Unless you did that then the contacts are gone.

HT1766 Can I restore my iPhone from an older backup than the most recent?
Ca. I restore my iPhone from a backup that is older than the most recent one?
Hey Geigerfam4,
The following info covers restoring from earlier backups:
You can choose from up to three of the most recent backups associated with your iCloud account. Each backup shows the date and time the backup was created, as well as the name of the device that created the backup. Unless you want to restore an older backup, choose the most recent backup of the device you want to restore.

Restore New iPhone from back up - Music Download
I recently changed carries and restored the iPhone 6 I received from my most recent backup. After the restore was complete I noticed that only certain (very, very few) of my songs were downloaded back on to my phone. The others were listed but with the icon to download each individually from iCloud. My question is that while I am pretty certain there has to be a way to download in bulk all my songs from iCloud at once or at the very least download each artists albums instead of having to download each of the hundreds of songs I have individually, I just do not know where to this or how?
Thanks in advance.Hi nickh77tx,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you restored your iPhone from a backup and all of your music wasn’t restored. It sounds as though you restored from an iCloud backup. If this is the case, it can take some time for the restore to complete and download all of your music back to your iPhone. Please read over the attached article for further information.

Restoring my device from an iCloud backup is taking a long time
Restoring from a backup might take a while because of the size of the backup or the speed of the Wi-Fi network. For example, iCloud can take approximately 1 to 4 hours per gigabyte during a restore process.
There are several steps you can take:
In iOS 8 or later, check the progress of the transfer on your device under Settings > iCloud > Backup. In iOS 7, go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup. If the restore process is underway, the iCloud Backup setting is dimmed.
Make sure that your device is connected to the Internet with reliable Wi-Fi.
Make sure that your device is plugged in to a power outlet.
Check the Apple progress bar that appears while transferring a backup.
Best regards,
Joe
