A restore to factory settings doesn't damage the iPhone. If you wish to remove the Other data that is taking up storage then have a read over the helpful user tip provided by Kappy below:

  • Everytime i connect my iPhone to my laptop itunes will say "This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device" is there anything i can do to stop this?

When i connect my iPhone to my laptop it will only come up with the option to restore from backup, this has happened 3 times tonight
    Can anyone help?

The error message you're seeing is likely the other way around -- i.e. something like "This iPhone has previously been synced with a different computer".   There's no problem syncing multiple iOS devices to the same computer.
However, the reverse is not true for the iPhone --  you cannot connect an iPhone to another computer without it being erased, even if you manually manage music and video.  So, it sounds like you've been syncing your iPhone to a different computer?
Also, 5.1 (not 5.0.1) is the latest iOS.

  • HT201263 i tried all that but when i connect my iphone to my itunes there is no restore button. why is this happening?

i tried all that but when i connect my iphone to my itunes there is no restore button. why is this happening?

    Slightly important info to include.
Once the iPhone is in Recovery Mode, it must be restored with iTunes.
You are unable to select Restore?

  • If i unplug my iphone while its "updating software" will it restore the old software? or is this a bad idea?

if i unplug my iphone while its "updating software" will it restore the old software? or is this a bad idea?

It's a bad idea. It *ought* to recover OK, but there are too many cases where it hasn't to be safe assuming that it will.
If, as Changren Yong says, you have a good backup, you always have the safety net of a restore, but it's a silly thing to do,
My advice when doing software updates is to download separately then update (you're always offered an option to download only). You can do what you like during the download, which is always the ling part of the process for me. The update usually (for me) only takes about 5 minutes.
One further point - in case you didn't know, you can initiate a backup by right-clicking the phone in iTunes and choosing Backup from the drop-down. That should always be part of your update process

  • Can iphone ios get virus and will system restore fix it

there has being discussions and news stating that there few ios viruses lurking in the internet, I was wondering if Iphone ios can get virus and if it can, will system restore solve the problem
Im suspicious because I went to a site that i cant remember and it took a long time to load, then was a aadvertisement that look like a app introduction in app store, i accidenally clicked the download button so i quickly closed the window after 2 seconds of loading.
    Thankyou for your support
Also bonus question-please tell me why cant i start the Game Total war battles:shogun with out an internet connection, with out it will crush

There are no known viruses that can affect or infect a non-jailbroken iOS device.  If it has not been jailbroken you cannot alter or write to the operating system.  So that should not be a worry for you.
There are websites that have some nasty behavior and will try and capture information or leave things like cookies behind that affect your web browser.  With iOS, again, there isn't much to worry about.  And stopping a download before it finished should leave you in good condition.
You can always, if things get strange, restore your system from a clean backup if you have backed up to iCloud or iTunes on a computer.  You can go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Settings which will leaver your apps intact but clear your settings, which you will have to go back and make sure you have your WiFi, etc set correctly, but that isn't necessary unless you start seeing a lot of strange behavior.
Clean up operation easily by doing a reboot - hold both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if it appears.
The bonus question - I don't do gaming so cannot offer any help with that issue.

  • HT1414 Volume has gone on iPhone 5 . Still not working after restore. Any ideas?

Volume on iPhone has gone. No music, calls etc . Help please

    Check everything in this article:

If that's done, and HT1414 is done, it's a hardware issue.

  • HT1414 if i unlock my iphone 5 from virgin mobile will this get rid of the "virgin" at the top left corner?

Just about to get a iphone 5 from virgin mobile, the "virgin" in the top left corner is throwing me off, if i unlock it will it go away?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That will go away if you use your iPhone with another carrier's network, but in that case, you will see the name of that carrier at the top left corner. That means that the Virgin text at the top left corner has nothing to do with having the device locked, but it shows because you are using a Virgin SIM card

  • IPhone 4s: No service and will not restore.

For about ten hours today, my phone has consistently said that it's had no service and so I've gone the day without a way of calling or texting. Considering how inconvenient that is, I tried every troubleshooting tip on this site that was available and nothing's worked. Finally, I decided to restore it, so for beginners.. it was very discouraging to plug in my phone and see that the phone number was not available. Anyway, I go through with the restore and so my phone extracts everything and once it's time for the actual restore.... Error. I tried to restore again. Error. So now my phone is stuck on the "Plug into iTunes" screen and it doesn't matter because it won't restore to begin with. I know it's not my actual service because everyone else in my house is fine. I've had my iPhone replaced several times to the point where I stopped saving for the iPhone 5 altogether, because I never want to go through this again. My phone has been replaced twice within the last two months alone. I can't get to the Apple store right away and as usual with them, it seems as though I'm out of a phone again.
What I'm wondering is if anyone else has been through this... Could it possibly be my SIM card? I really don't want to believe that Apple keeps handing me defected phones...

  • What will happen after disabling iCloud and connecting my iPhone to my iMac?

Now that I disabled iCloud on my iPhone, indeed the data is still available on my iPhone.
But now I tried to disable iCloud on my iMac, the data is lost.
Is it safe to connect my iPhone to my iMac and will my data (from my iPhone) be restored on my iMac? Or will I los all data?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

The other 2 applications open like normal. All three give me info.
    Pages     ver.4.1          265.8MB
    Numbers ver. 2.1          89.5MB
    Keynote ver. 5.1.1        238.1MB
They all list Apr 3 as the last time opened. That was when I upgraded to Mavericks. I certainly used pages and numbers since then as I have alot of my work files on this computer?
Just very odd. I did find my original iWorks disc from when I bought the computer. I'm assuming i can reinstall it. Will try that. Thank you for all your help. Would still like to know what did happen?

Can you try to use another computer?
If this does not work, visit an Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider next to your place, and show them the phone, maybe they can restore it before you'll have to get it serviced.
Did you try to put it in recovery mode?

  • HT1414 my daughter has iphone 3gs and it required an update , so i connected the iphone to itunes for update and the iphone locked up, I had to reset back to factory settings and now the iphone will not activate , what can i do

My daughter has an iphone 3gs and it required an update. So i connected the iphone to itunes for the update and the iphone locked up . I had to reset the iphone back to factory settings and now the iphone will not activate , Please advise what i can do to get this working for her ?

Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Where did you acquire this iPhone?
What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?
    Unauthorized modification of iOS

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...
