HT1414 iPad with slowly flashing apple symbol completely unresponsive

My iPad will not restart, restore or recover according to any of the standard methods. My Mac computer does not recognise it is there when connected by cable to iTunes. If iPad switched off and connected with home button held down it simply goes back to the same state - black screen with Apple logo flashing on and off every 2 seconds. This just happened out of the blue while playing sudoku on an app I have used for ages - never had any problems with my iPad before.

Thank you for your reply which was exactly in line with my expectations. I had already decided that if no one replied quickly it would mean there was no easy fix, so yesterday I took my iPad to the Apple store in Exeter (UK). Although it is quite some distance, I was delighted with the service I got from the Genius bar. The genius did a diagnosis and attempted a firmware reset which still did not have any effect on the gently flashing Apple icon, then declared that it was a permanent failure. He told me my rights under UK law and since my iPad was just under 2 years old, bought by me from an Apple store and not mistreated, Apple would replace it free. He also helped set the replacement up and answered quite a few other questions while I was there. This is the reason why I bought Apple in the first place and why my next purchase will also be an Apple product.
I continue to be a happy customer and hope that Apple never falters in keeping up such legendary high standards.

And they were definitely purchased from the iTunes store, they show on the account's purchase history (Store > View Account on a computer's iTunes, or you can view the last 90 days purchases via http://reportaproblem.apple.com) ?
You could potentially log into the account on that computer's iTunes (Store > Sign Out to log out of your account, that will then change to a Store > Sign In option) and redownload them by clicking on the id towards the top right of the iTunes screen and Purchased on the popup :

Or do you have a different computer that you could redownload them on and then copy them over to that computer via a flash drive or memory card, and then add them to its iTunes via File > Add To Library ?

Actually, everyone missed one point, when a device is priced, the cost of icloud storage space for that device is also included in it that is why they are able to give you 5gb each for each user ID, in nutshell there is nothing free coming with apple device purchase, it is paid for. What they are trying by giving only 5gb per user ID irrespective of the number of devices used is pure broadlight looting, they take money from you when you buy each device and give you nothing, This is a case of goods and services bought but not fully deliverd ie apple can be suied for discreminatory treatment towards it's users. I wonder why no one tried this yet in America where everyone sue everyone for petty things..... there is no one to take up this issue? . if tim got any love for the guys who shell out money for the devices his company makes, he should be implimenting this as priority before someone wake up from sleep and sue him.

It requires i log into FindMyiPad to delete the iCloud account however the Apple ID has changed therefore the username/password no longer exists.
This is just sending me in circles to log into to a non-existant apple id with no password to delete my iCloud so i can log in with my updated apple ID.

Settings/iTunes and App Store log out then log in with new ID. you might want to change ID in iMessage, FaceTime and Siri and delete the cloud account and create one with new ID. remember apps are forever linked to the ID used to download them and can only be updated with that ID

You can add your iCloud account to his iPad as a secondary account to his primary account (settings > mail, contacts, calendars) and enable just contacts and calendars.

Flashing Apple symbol in upper keft hand corner?

My black Apple symbol in the upper left hand corner of the display flashes every 3 seconds. The lower portion of the symbol turns grey then turns black.
Anyone else noticed this?

That was it! The strange thing is I have always had pictures changing in the background with the translucent bar and it has only been recently that it has flashed.
At least it is normal. I have run into more trouble this year with my software than I have in 20+ years using Apple. I guess I am looking for trouble now lol. I should also mention that it might sound bad but, History =1 This Year = 2. My Wife's work pc will have more trouble this month than I have had in 22 years.

Try restoring with iTunes.

I really hope someone can help my daughter and I here...
The story: My daughter and I had an iPad each - naturally, since she is a minor, both iPads had the same Apple ID & password. In Game Center, we had separate Accounts (so we wouldn't mess up each others zoos and such), but with the same Apple ID. No problems so far.
Now, some lowlife burglar stole both our iPads... So I have bought new ones, one for me, and one for my daughter. She is thrilled to have her iPad back, and the games she have missed.
But oh no... Whenever she opens a game, the iPad launches "my version" of the game, with my Game Center nickname. I try to log her in with her nickname on her new iPad, but it is impossible - using the same Apple ID and password, it only shows my Game Center account. If I try to manage my account, or create a new with the exact same nickname she used on her old iPad, Game Center refuses to log on, because the "name is already taken" - Well I know it is taken, it is my daughters, but how to get it? It is like I know both the Apple ID, the password and both GCA names - but I have nowhere to type in "Game Center Account name" followed by the password...

I tell my daughter that there must be a solution, and her progress in her games are not lost; I can see them through MY Game Center account, so they are not deleted - but how to enter her part of the account is beyond my knowledge, so please, any ideas are welcome. On the ipad that you wish to change the ID:
You can Erase all content and settings - that returns it to the "out of box" condition.
OR
Settings - iCloud - Delete account (It will ask if you want to keep contacts, calendars etc).
Settings - Messages - Tap AppleID - Sign out
Settings - Facetime - Tap AppleID - Sign out
Settings - iTunes and App store, tap apple ID, sign out.

When you connect that iPad to iTUnes, go to the summary page and scroll down, there should be a box saying 'automatically update' or something to that effect. De select that.
With automatically update on, what you buy on one goes onto the other. but with that box off you can choose.
On the iPad itself, it's under
Settings
iTUnes and App Stores
and then you can choose what you want automatically updated between the two devices.
