Restore stops at "Restoring iPhone firmware"  for hours??

iTunes will first of all download current iOS 6.1.3 firmware which is about 0.94 GB for your iPhone.
It will take time depending on your net connection speed.

Unable to turn on or do a restore.
After installing IOS7 it would turn itself completely off sometime and have to be restarted with both buttons.  If I turned it off normally it would restart okay within an hour or so but overnight it would always go to hard off.
Using both buttons would usually start it with the Apple logo on the screen until it came up.  Worked normally then.  Knowing something was afoot I did a restore.
Now it will not turn on at all and I tried to restore in itunes but it stops at the point of "waiting for info from the Ipad"
I tried the Apple forum "recovery-restore" process several times with holding down the home button and plugging in the USB but it did not respond.
When connected through itunes it is still recognized as needed to be restored but the process will not complete.
    Standing by.

  • 3g iphone syncs for hours while but never completes

I have a 3g iphone which indicates it is syncing but never completes. I have worked with the online support as well as my local genius office, with no luck in resolving these issues. I have deleted my bookmarks to see if that would resolve the problem with the syncing only to have the problem occurs while syncing the contacts. I am not getting any error messages.

If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • Stuck at "verifying iphone software" for hours

i've searched for this problem before with no answers. updating to 3.0 was a mistake, it got stuck at verifying iphone software and nothing worked. reinstalled itunes and did everything. some old messages suggested i try to install itunes on another computer and try, and it worked. now i have a iphone with everything deleted off it. i used a public computer to do this.
how do i begin using my iphone back on my laptop, sync it, etc? i know i have my old pictures, etc on my old computer, can i put it back? and what the heck kind of problem is this where apple doesn't have a solution for?

Hi! This link has helped a lot of our customers:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
If that doesn't fix it it is typically caused by 3G PC card software (Aircard, etc), Internet Service Provider communication software, or internet speed software that modify the default TCP/IP packet size. We would need to edit your registry to get this resolved. If this applies to you call us at 800-MY-IPHONE and one of us will be able to help!

Put your phone in DFU mode,
Hold the Power Button (3 secs)
Continue holding the power button and also hold the home button (15 secs)
Release the power button while continuing to hold the home button (10 secs)
Your device should prompt with the "Connect to iTunes Screen"
    Restore.

  • TS3681 I have tried restoring my I-phone at least a dozen time and it keeps freezing at the Restoring Iphone Firmware step.. It has now discovers IOS7.1 so I thought it would pregress right through but stuck for 4 hours on restoring Iphone firmware?

I have tried restoring my I-phone at least a dozen time and it keeps freezing at the Restoring Iphone Firmware step.. I had not been using this phone since October as I updated to the 5c and have had my kids using this for games.. About a month ago I thought it would be useful to update the IOS after I had updates the 5c but this crashed and it has not worked since..
I have reinstalled Itunes - I have just updated again now that IOS7.1 has come thought and I though I may be there as each step of the restore seemed to be working and the line under the apple logo was progressing. However it has now has now been stuck for 4 hours on restoring Iphone firmware?

After 4 hours of frozen screen is came up with an error message - Error (3)...Any solutions??

  • Strange solution for iOS 4.3 Error 9 (got at "restoring IPhone firmware")

After my iPhone 4 was stuck between iOS 4.3 installation failure and restoring of iOS 4.2.1 Apple Service men tested it and confirmed a hardware problem. Now I'm given brand new one.
From what I see another guy had reported same here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2777023&start=0&tstart=30
Some other people also reported encounter with same problem - Error 9 during Restore at "restoring iPhone firmware".
The solution is the best for the customers, but to me it sounds very strange that a software update can cause hardware damage. There is something fishy here.
Anyway, affected fellows: Do not waste your time. Go to nearest Apple Service.

I have this exact problem and do not believe in the least that it is hardware related.

Can you try to use another computer?
If this does not work, visit an Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider next to your place, and show them the phone, maybe they can restore it before you'll have to get it serviced.
Did you try to put it in recovery mode?

  • 3gs Stuck on "preparing iPhone software for restore..."

Attempted to update to 4.1 from 3.1 and iphone is now stuck on "preparing iPhone software for restore..." Can't use phone, or restore it...
the first time I tried to update, it went through the update process but crashed at the very end...I wish I wrote down what error number it gave me then.
since then every time i reset it into dfu mode and connect the phone to itunes, itunes says the phones name is iPhone and n/a for my capacity, software version, and serial number.
I've tried two computers, rebooted both of them, reinstalled itunes, apple want's me to pay 30 bucks to talk to them for support...
QQ I don't know what to do...

My iPhone has been buggy since upgrading to firmware 2.0 and when the new version of iTunes (7.7) came out last night I thought it would be a good idea to do a full restore. I have restored my iPhone in the past and everything worked flawlessly, even if it might not have been speedy.
Here is what happened to me:
I chose to restore my iPhone and it did the same thing you mentioned as it sat there with the status bar running saying it was "preparing iPhone software for restore". It NEVER stopped after quite a while.
    so...
I reset the iPhone and disconnected it and restarted iTunes. I reconnected my iPhone and it recognized it as being in the safety mode (forgot term) and then gave me the option to restore from backup. I selected restore from backup and it then made it past the preparing software but got hung up on actually backing up the iPhone. We are talking hours. I then did a reset on the iPhone and repeated this process and said F it and went to bed.
When I woke up the phone was restored and working and had all of my apps on it but no music, photos, etc. I was ok with that as I needed to leave for work. it had even restored an alarm I had set as it was going off when I entered the room.
My issue is that I don't feel that the phone got a full and clean restore as it had to be removed from the process MULTIPLE times due to the process hanging for hours. Anyone who has restored knows it is not normally this messy or timely of a process.
Anyone who can advise us on what to do would be very, very helpful. I am considering completely reinstalling iTunes on my mac and starting over but don't want to have to do ALL of that (as it would include reimporting all music, photos, redownloading and reinstalling all apps, etc).
I love my Apple products and they are usually good to me but the firmware 2.0 and now this iTunes 7.7 have been some of the buggiest software I have ever used from Apple.
Please help and thank you in advance.

  • Update to iOS 5.1 causes iPhone to crash on "Restoring iPhone Firmware"

    Hello everyone.
I have been vry please with my iPhone 4 on Verizon for the last 6 months.  I was on iOS 5 which worked great.  Then this morning the AppStore icon had the familiar red circle indicating some apps had updates available.  I clicked Update All.  In there was an update for iOS5.1.  I clicked OK.
I gave me the usual License agreement etc… I clicked OK.
A few minutes later I looked at it and it showed a picture of a cable with an arrow towards an iTunes icon.  SO I plugged it to my computer and it launched iTunes.
iTunes tells me that my iPhone is in Recovery mode and I need to Restore.  Why is it in Recovery mode???  All I did was I clicked OK for software update!
I have no other choice but to click Restore.  It asks if I want to Restore and Update.  I click OK.
I downloads the software (25 minutes worth!!!) then goes through the motions.
    - Restoring iPhone software
    - Verify iPhone software
    - Verify iPhone Restore
    - Restoring iPhone firmware.
After it sits on that Restoring firmware with a striped bar for about 30 seconds, all of a sudden, a new window pops up and says "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (1)."
iMac 2.4G 24inch .  OS 10.6.8  All my software is up to date as of this morning.  That includes the most recent iTunes.
Nothing else is plugged in the USB ports.
    I have restarted the computer.
No third party firmware.  No illegal mods.  No jailbreaking or anything, all on the up and up.
I have called Apple tech support but was put on hold for 30 minutes and finally had to go to work.
I have done a search on this and other boards but could not find a solution.  Would anyone have any suggestion?
    Thanks for any help.
    Bo

    UPDATE:
I tried about 6 or 7 times with no luck.  Maybe trying even more would have worked as Milis and some others have said.  But I ran out of patience.
So I called Apple tech support.  After a few minutes a woman answered, I explained the problem, she said that since it was out of warranty, it would cost $29 for a one time incident.  I said that since I did not initiate this problem I did not think I should have to pay for anything.  Then she put me on hold, and evidently sent me to the slow cue.  I waited for about 20 or so minutes and another woman answered.  She was very friendly and tried to be helpful but this was clearly out of her league so she transferred me to a specialist.  A very friendly british sounding woman came on and really wanted to get to the bottom of this.  She did a remote access to my computer so she could see the contents of the log files.  After a while, she determined that it could not be repaired.  She told me the phone had to be replaced.
So she filled out a request to that effect, gave me the location of the nearest Apple store and made an appointment for me.  I went there during lunch and they replaced my phone with a new (or new looking at least) unit.  They set it up and now everything is fine.  It is still on iOS5 but I really don't have any pressing need for iOS5.1 so, given this previous experience, I'm going to stay with 5 for a while.
Bottom line is that this was a real pain and huge waste of time.  But Apple support did come through without any trouble (apart from the waiting on hold) and got things fixed and working again.  The people I talked to did not have any idea of what might have caused this.  But one thing I was remember is this:  Usually I always do iOS updates through iTunes with the iPhone connected to the computer.  This was the first time that the update was started with the phone unconnected because it came about through the "Updates" panel of the phone's AppStore icon.  I'm not sure why this would cause the firmware update to go south but that is the only thing I can think of.
At the end of the day, I think I have to put that in the "You want cutting edge technology? well it's going to work most of the time but every now and then there will be the inevitable pothole" column.

  • IPhone 3GS won't restore (error 1600 or "not eligible for this build") no apple logo, recognised in DFU mode.

My iPhone 3GS decided to turn itself off (on 30% battery) yesterday and hasn't turned on since. After some testing (hard resets, DFU mode), tiny umbrella recognises it in DFU mode, as does Redsn0w. neither devices can successfully kick the phone out of the restore loop.
The screen stays blank throughout, no apple logo, connect to itunes logo etc. however every now and then the charging sign will appear (empty battery with a little bit filled (red)). even if i unplug it from my iMac the charging symbol stays there.
once I get the phone in DFU mode iTunes recognises that there is a phone connected that needs to be restored, it doesn't matter if I click restore or option + restore the process will fail on Error 1600 or "this device is not eligible for this build".
My iPhone is not unlocked or jailbroken. Before the incident with the coffee I managed to synchronize and update its firmware as indicated by iTunes. The latest update for my iPhone was iOS 5 firmware.  My intent is not to unlock or jailbrake the device, just to make it work again.
Here are some things I've tried since:
    1. Exiting recovery mode via Tinyumbrella
    2. Entering DFU mode via Redsn0w
    3. Shift + Restore and using firmwares from 5.0 to 5.0.1 to upgrade my iPhone.
    4. Remove hosts to my Host file (in relation to the "device not eligible for this build" issue)
    5. Try redsn0w and use IPSW to see if it is recognized by iTunes (iTunes recognizes the iPhone but then at the very last minute shows error 1600.
    6. Save SHSH files and use Tinyumbrella to uploaded them to my iPhone.
I would really appreciate if someone can help me on this. I might be doing something wrong or maybe not even considering the right steps to solve this issue. I don't know if there are missing drivers that are preventing the device from communicating with iTunes properly. Of some tool that can be used to correct this problem. It may or may not be fixable but I think it is worth the try.
    Thanks very much.

please ignore the comment about coffee. Someone posted a very similar question apart from he spilt coffee on his phone, I didn't.
