  • There's no 'check for updates' on my itunes help menu

I am trying to update itunes on my windows laptop, but there's no 'Check for updates' on my help menu!  I nave 11.04, but there's and 11.05 and I want to update before installing IOS 7

Thanks AnaMusic. I didn't realise that I needed OS X Lion installed on my MacBook Pro. Bought it and installed and the icon is now there Now I'm faced with having to familiarise myself with the new features of OsX Lion and it is truly overwhelming. A step-by-step approach is called for I suppose. Thanks so much for your help

If you are a Windows user, try temporarily disabling your antivirus and any other anti-whatever that is required with Windows before beginning the process again.

  • Check for Update and Restore iPhone Both Requesting "ipsw" File

    Hi, All --
My 3GS currently has almost 2 GB of "other" stuff on it. Given that it is an 8 GB phone, this is problematic. In addition, performance is very sluggish over the past few months (e.g., press the phone icon and it takes 15-30 seconds before the "shutter" actually opens). So, I was going to reset to factory settings and then restore from backup.
However, when I click on "Restore iPhone..." or even "Check for Update" in iTunes, I am prompted for the location of an 'ipsw' file. I have no idea what this is or where to find it (although I can say that it was not in any of the directories suggested by a Google search). The Apple support site implies that if I just click on "Restore iPhone..." I will be off and running, but clearly this isn't the case. Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

    iPhone 3GS
    Win 7 (x64)
    iTunes 11
    iOS 6.1.3

OK, I have it downloaded -- thanks for the tip. The phone is not jailbroken at all. I am a very "vanilla" phone user. So, before I do this, a couple of other questions --
    1. Why is this even necessary? From the Apple support site, it seems like I should just be able to click restore and I am off to the races.
    2. Will this actually do the whole restore, or does it just re-install iOS 6.1.3?
    Thanks again.

Can anyone help me with this?

  • HT2311 it won't let me install because I don't have 10.6.8 updated version?  I have checked for updates and nothing comes up.  I can't access Itunes to download Iphone photos etc....

Itunes doesn't recognize my Iphone 4 or Iphone 5.  I get a pop up that says it requires me to install Itunes updated version of 10.7 to access my phones.
When I go to install version 10.7 it says I can't because my system needs to be updated to version 10.6.8?
Need some advise on my next step.

If you're on a Leopard operating system (10.5.8), you're not going to be able to sync to the iPhone 5. (The iPhone 5 needs iTunes 10.7.0.21, and that's only available for Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion.)
You should still be able to sync to the iPhone 4S if you've got iTunes version 10.6.3.25 installed. (Your Leopard operating system supports that.)
A .dmg installer for iTunes version 10.6.3.25 for Mac OS can be found at the following download page on the Apple website:
    iTunes 10.6.3

  • My "Check for updates" and "Restore" buttons greyed out in iTunes.

Hy this is a screenshot of my problem. Please help me out. Thank you.

On my G4 iBook I was having issues, first with a first gen shuffle, greyed out update and restore, no info on serial number and such. Shuffle was blinking orange and red, took to Genuis bar tried the shuffle reset application, hosed. My 3rd Gen iPod and brand new Video iPod (just got today) also greyed out.
Shuffle reset was giving numerous error messages, trashed and reinstalled iTunes and all plists, no good.
Tried shuffle on old eMac running older iTunes, worked fine!!
Tried brand new Video iPod on old eMac and older iTunes, worked fine.
Archived and installed Tiger on iBook and voila, Video pod is good to go, haven't tried old shuffle on this yet but, bottom line, reinstall OS did the trick (or so it would appear for now).

  • How do you do a click to check for updates in firefox 4?

    ''locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/780312''
In firefox 3 there was an option to check for current updates .. I noticed in Firefox four my digital persona does work with my finger print reader anymore and its really more convient for me just to swipe my finger to log onto a website without having to remember every single password and its a pain in the rear end to look for them.. how do i check for updates to make sure I can repair a lot of the current problem with firefox 4 .. I love the program but it just has a few small flaws that I am sure will work its self out ..

Firefox program updates are handled thru the Help > About Mozilla Firefox menu item, there's a Check for Updates button in that dialog when automatic updates are turned off.
You can check for extension updates manually in the Tools > Addons > Extensions tab. Right-click an extension and use the Find Update menu item.
I doubt in that fingerprint reader will update with Find Updates, though. You should look for updates at the fingerprint reader software website.

  • "Check for Updates..." menu item missing Acrobat 9 Mac

Trying a clean install of Acrobat 9 Pro for Mac on a clean Mac OS X.8.3 Mountain Lion. It take the serial number without issue after launching, but in the Help Menu there is no, "Check for Updates..." item.
Installed and logged in as a local admin. The only alternative way to update the software is to go to the products update page at:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Macintosh
To download and manually install in succession TWENTY updates to get from v. 9.0 to v. 9.5.4. This shouldn't be this difficult. I bet the Adobe Chat Customer Service that I'd be able to download and install all TWENTY updates before anyone on this forum could provide me with a solution.
    Do you accept the challenge?

If you can not download the updates from the help menu any more, then for the MAC the updates are available at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Macintosh. Generally you have to install these updates in order. It is simplest to download the latest first and work back to see if any can be skipped. Once the product hits end of life (and I think AA9 is there), the only updates that are provided are for critical security updates. For instance there has not been an update for AA 8 since Sept 2011. Since the releases are about every 2 years, it is indeed the end-of-life time in the cycle for AA 9 based on the history of the products. The upgrade may be worth it at some time, particularly as your OS or word processor or such change over time. Since the MAC version does not have PDF Maker (as I understand it), the upgrades may not be as critical for you as for PC folks working with newer versions of MS OFFICE -- who have gotten used to those features.

  • ITunes 11 Check for Updates button not working

Anyone else having a non-responsive "Check for Updates" and "Get More Apps" button (found in the apps pane)? Clicking either button yields no result, no dialogue bubble to acknowledge the input, not even an error message that it can't connect or that there's no updates available like in previous versions. As of this morning, the button is displaying that I have "3 Updates Available", but clicking on the button does not do anything, the same goes for the adjacent  "Get More Apps" button. I ran Disk First Aid's permissions etc. and rebooted, was able to get it to work for the first try, and then thereafter it has reverted back to non-responsiveness. I also resorted to re-installing the iTunes 11 via a fresh download, still the same bug. This versions suffers again from a lot of bugs (and missed opportunities) and I can't revert back to v10.7 because Mountain Lion simply won't let you. Le sigh.

Running iTunes 11 on Mac OS 10.6.8. I manually sync my apps/songs/etc.
I atttempted to updates apps using ITunes. The "Check for Updates" at bottom left was non-responsive. I tried:
    • Disconnecting the phone (2x), then reconnecting to iTunes
    • Relaunching iTunes (2x)
    • Reverting back to the previous version (ugh - don't try it)
Googling the problem lead me to many MacRumors and Apple forum threads.
Went to work, tried again tonight and success! The only thing I can attribute the sudden functionality of updating via iTunes is from REBOOTING my G5. BTW, I am using a wired mouse.
Feeling a little silly that I didn't try that earlier.

  • "Check for Updates" checks where?

In the 10.1.3 Connector there is a "Check for Updates" button on the "About Oracle Connector for Outlook" window. I'm interested in configuring this and need to figure out a few things. What server or configuration control is there for this feature? Are there client side settings I need to push with the connector to point to a specific server or does this check a central server provided by Oracle? If so, can this be overridden? Are there any notes or docs available either on OTN or Metalink?
    thanks,
    Jason

The proper way to distribute the latest WUA (.320) to the clients in a WSUS administered environment, is to update the WSUS server(s) with this update:
An update to harden Windows Server Update Services
then the clients WUA will be selfupdated when they connect to the WSUS server.

  • Error while checking for update

Lately, when I sync my iPad to iTunes on my mac, when I click on "Check for Updates" I get the following error message...
"iTunes could not check for an update to the carrier settings for your iPad. An unknown error occurred (1631).
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again"...
The network is fine, both on the mac and the iPad... And the phrase "...could not check for an update to the carrier settings" doesn't even seem to make sense???? It used to work but this just started recently and now the error pops up every time I try... My iPad is WiFi + 3G but I've never activated the 3G coverage...
    Any thoughts??? thanks... bob..

I hadn't seen that error either until just recently... I found this post,
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12635600
where folks with the same problem have appeared to have found an answer...
All I did was toggled my Cellular Data switch from OFF (where it always was before) to ON for a few seconds... That is not to say I signed up for AT&T service... I just toggled the Cellular Data switch but I was still running in WiFi mode as always...
And it worked... Message gone... Other folks on that same post talk about inserting non-active SIM cards into their iPads to clear the error??? Don't know about that but the Cellular Data from default OFF, to ON and then back to OFF has, for the moment anyway, cleared the message for me...
    bob...

  • Get Windows Explorer when I check for Updates for IOS

I cannot "check for updates" or "restore" IOS on my ipad. I have an ipad 1 (model A1337) and when I select either option it presents me with a windows explorer view of my pc. Any ideas? I have upgraded iTunes to 10.6.3.5. I am currently on IOS 4.2.1

Try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

  • Why does "Check for Updates..." show that there are no updates available while I'm using Firefox 3.6.18 and latest version is 5.0.1?

First and foremost, I'd like to clarify that I hardly have any technical knowledge. So pardon me if this comes across as a silly question to the professionals. Here are the details pertaining to this problem as per the best of my limited knowledge:
I'm currently using Mozilla Firefox 3.6.18; previously it was 3.6.13. It was updated to 3.6.13 from 3.6.9 after I clicked on Check for Updates... and it told me that it'd be done when I reboot my system. When I restarted my PC, I was surprised to find that it was downloading the version 3.6.18. I didn't know how much it'd progressed in the process, so I let it finish it. After that, I disabled the option that enables it to download and update on its own, and turned it off. Next time when I started it, it was 3.6.18, but wasn't updating on its own anymore.
Now I wanna update it directly to the latest version 5.0.1. But when I leave it to "'''Automatically download and install the update'''" option under Tools>Options>Advanced>Update, it downloads and updates the versions as per their release order. So if I leave it to it, then when I start it next time, it'll start downloading the version next to 3.6.18 and update to it instead of updating directly to 5.0.1. It'll keep doing so until it reaches there. For reasons of my own, I don't like that. So I '''unchecked '''the "Automatically download and install the update" option and chose the "'''Ask me what I want to do'''" option (so that it doesn't keep repeating the "downloading and updating" process on its own every time I start my PC). Then I went to Firefox site and thought of downloading and updating to the latest version on my own. But then I was informed that if I do so, '''I'll get the latest version, but I'll lose all my saved bookmarks unless I follow some hectic procedure to save them and load them again after installing the latest version of Firefox'''. I don't want to let that happen either. So, can anyone suggest me a way out of this situation without losing my bookmarks?
Almost forgot. I tried several times by going to '''Help>Check For Updates...''', but every time it returned the same result: "There are no updates available. Firefox will check periodically for updates." How come no update is available while the version I'm using is 3.6.18 and the latest version is 5.0.1? In short, '''Check for Updates...''' didn't help either. (Even when I updated it last time, shouldn't it have updated itself from version 3.6.13 to 5.0.1 directly?)
So, can anyone suggest a way by which I won't lose my bookmarks and would be able to update to the latest version directly too? An answer that wouldn't involve removing the current version and installing the latest one, but directly update to it (it's okay if it needs downloading) would be more welcome. I know that the bookmarks can be saved in a file and all, but I'd like to know if it's possible as it happened for my current version from previous version. (It downloaded and updated itself on its own, disturbing nothing, not even logged me out of certain accounts where I stay logged in. The only problem there was that it wasn't updating directly to the latest version.)
I hope the aforementioned details make sense and are helpful enough for others to help me. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for your swift response. And sorry if it was a bit too hectic to go through my detailed query (which I did because it was misunderstood when I asked previously). As I've mentioned above, I was informed that updating to 5.0.1 would '''require''' me to '''delete''' the current version and then install the new one. And doing so will involve losing all my bookmarks. I guess I should have been more specific and detailed there. By losing, I didn't mean losing them forever. I'm aware that they're secured in some place and deleting and installing the software doesn't harm its existence. What I meant that if I install the new version, I'd have to delete the old one. And after installing the new version, I'd have to transfer them (bookmarks) back from wherever they are. Get it? When it updated from 3.6.9 to 3.6.13, and from 3.6.13 to 3.6.18, I didn't need to follow that process. They were already present on their own.
BTW, I'm having no problems with 3.6.18 but after learning about the existence of version 5.0.1, I'm a bit too eager to lay my hands over it.
Thanks for your help; hope this wasn't extremely long.
