HT1414 tooggling power loop - how to backup data

My phone is toggling in a power loop between the apple icon (what you get when you shut it down) and the lock screen. I downloaded icloud on my computer to tried and backup all my data, videos, etc. I don't think I have the icloud app installed on my phone and now can't get into it to add it. Is there any way to recover my data? From what I've read, i'll have to do a factory reset.

Hello Kim,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.  I understand how important it is to keep the data on your iPhone.  Have you attempted to back up your iPhone using iTunes?
The following article has steps to back up your iPhone using iTunes.  I recommend resetting your iPhone as described in the steps below and then trying to create a backup with iTunes using the steps in this article:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Once you have created a backup, I recommend continuing with steps 4-6:
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.

  • How to backup data when hard drive is failing.

I think my hard drive is failing..
I booted using Install DVD, and got message in Disc Utility that "this drive has a hardware problem that can't be repaired." It mentioned I should backup data and consult apple representative..
I clicked on Macintosh HD under the red physical drive (500.11 GB Hitachi HTS) and did disc repair.
Strangely, the message went away on the physical drive when I finished.  It turned back to black wording and gave green "verified/repaired" messages in the log.
I am still able to boot my macbook, although everything is running slowly... Desktop excel files take 15 mins to open.
Does this still sound like a failing hard drive?
I am trying to act fast and borrowed my sister's external harddrive/ "passport for mac", and it slowly prompted a time machine backup. It is slowly working through "8.34GB of 200.33GB"
I do not really understand what I am doing, but hoping this is the right move. Could someone explain what time machine will do or how it will help?
Is there any chance I will harm her external hd?
I am mostly worried about iPhoto and itunes library, iMovie projects, and important excel spreadsheets on my desktop. Is time machine looking after these concerns?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Where is you TM backup?
Where are your external data redundancies?
Now you will need to use very expensive data recovery experts to recover data when you could have had it safely on a $100 worth of 2 external HD.
Mechanical HD failure circumvents using recovery software.......so,  now you backed yourself into a corner and needed expensive data expert recovery.
You took a wrong turn a long while back before reaching this cliff edge.
that wrong term was not having (preferably 2) external HD as a redundant data archive.

  • New HD for MacBook... How To Backup Data?

I just bought a 160gb Hitachi drive from OWC for my MacBook. Can anyone give me step by step directions on how to backup my current drive and how do I migrate this data on the new HD? I know how to physically install it but I want to make sure I back it up alright. I've heard about using SuperDuper, but what do I do with that program and how do I migrate?
    Thanks
    -B-

No, I don't have 2 gigs of RAM but as soon as I get the money I will upgrade from OWC! I have found that website (http://www.macsales.com) to be very reliable, quick and they have the lowest prices out there for the highest quality of products.
I searched around the internet to find out which was the best HD to get and what speeds, etc, and I found most went with Hitachi's 160G Travelstar drive. I know I read about many people having issues with Western Digital's model (sudden motion sensor, kernel panics, etc) so even though it was cheaper I knew that was the wrong way to go just by reading people's comments online. I suggest everyone else do the same thing. Do your research, both online and off, and find out what most people are having successes with (and asking on this board is what helped me, too!)
Once I get my increased RAM, then we will officially be twins. lol.
    Thanks for your response...
I'm lovin this new drive. I've got my 40 gigs of music on here, my 10,000 photos, all my apps, and I still have like 85 gigs left. Shweet! With the stock 80gb drive, I was already in my teens in HD space!

  • For Loop - How to retain data generated inside even if prematurely termination by user?

I have a loop that executes x times and each time generates a unique data point. If I wanted to give the user the ability to stop the loop before it finishes, an eventually save the data, how can I keep a hold of the data that has been generated up to that point? If I put an array outside of a loop the data doesn't get filled in until after the loop is complete, and an array inside of the loop only retains one data point for some reason.
Please keep in mind that I am relatively new to LabView so would appreciate fully explained answers.

However the auto-indexing doesn't seem to actually output the data for use until all the loop iterations are complete. In my case though I may need to do stuff with the data that has already been generated before it completes.
How do you figure that?  The auto-indexing tunnel will return values for all the iterations that have been completed.  Post your VI if you are still having problems.

  • LaCie drive won't power. How to recover data?

I have a LaCie, 500Gb drive that I use for movies and photos. Tonight while working on an iMovie, I noticed that the edits were taking a long time, so I restarted my iMac. However, it would not restart, just showed a blank white screen for a very long time. Finally, after 20minutes, I hit the power button and shut it down. A powering on with the same button produced nothing but the white screen. I tried to boot from the installation disk, but it just kept asking me to select a startup disk. After about three tries, I got my Mac to boot itself. It came on fine, and 3 of my 4 external drives showed up, but not the 4th. System profiler called it an 'unknown device.' All the drives are Firewire, connected to each other and lastly to this LaCie drive, which is connected to my Mac.
The problem is that this LaCie drive will not power on. Its light comes on and blinks and the FIrewire connection allows the other drives to work, but this one remains unpowered. Various multiple attempts of restarting the computer do not help. I disconnected and reconnect the power supply, swapped it with another drive's power cored and it is not a problem with the cords. I swapped the Firewire connections as well, and it is not a problem with those since the other three drives work.
The real concern of mine is that this drive has my iPhoto Librairies and some iMovies that I was working on. Is ther any way to get it powered on enough to transfer my data to another drive or to my iMac?
If I have to use a drive recovery service will it be able to retrieve my iMovies intact? Will it be able to recover my iPhoto Libraries with my photos, albums and books intact or will I just be likely to get loose items?
I don't understand how the drive can suddenly be unable to power on without giving me some warning of its impending doom.
Any helpful support would be greatly appreciated. Yes, I have the iPhotoLibraries backed up except for some recent photo imports that I cannot recover since I deleted them from my camera. I was about to do some backups of my iMovies and photos tonight.....just when the drive failed.....I am not happy

Yes, I got a new drive with all my files on it. I think all the iMovies are intact, but I had three quicktime movie clips that were not completely recovered. Two of them are not important, but one is a slideshow that I have put into one of my iMovies. It plays only to about the halfway point. I have the entire thing on a DV tape, so I have just reimported it for the iMovie. I did call Drive Savers to complain about it, and they were very nice, will work on it again. I think they should, for the price!
They said it was 'just one of those things' that 'drives just fail sometimes' and I am sure they are correct. There was a mechanical problem with the arm that moves over the disks, and this drive had two disks, so the recovery process was more complicated. The guy said that the only thing that would have caused this that I would have done is drop it from a distance. Without having that, the drive just happened to fail. He said that some drives last 10 years; others fail a week after purchase. The half-life of most external hard drives is about 5 years. This one was about two years old...not even close. My other La Cie drive is at least two years older than that one, and it is trucking along perfectly.
The failed drive just did not give me any warning itself. However, I did notice a marked slowing with iMovie and long pauses with small edits. I had experienced those with iMovie 3 and 4, but not with 6--the one I am using nearly exclusively. So now, I will do backups on movies-in-progress, and I will be sure to back up anytime iMovie acts the way it did this time.
I have not yet checked my iPhoto Libraries. I do have backups for the photos....except for some from May?
    Thanks for your support!

  • How to backup data from a bad partition?

    Hi,
My HDD in my Macbook Pro crashed due to a frequent uncontrollable on and off, I tried to boot into recovery mode but it won't let me mount the drive so that I can't repair permission, and I also fail to repair the disk neither not even target disk mode to another mac. So I assume my HDD is totally screwed for now, so are there any way to backup any data from this screwed HDD?
    Thank you so very much!
    Jeffero.

You can always try - but there's no guarantee of success.
Which model (e.g., "15" late 2011") MacBook Pro do you have? Need that info...
The first thing that you'll need to do, of course, is buy a new hard drive and install it. Decide on what speed (5400rpm or 7200rpm) you want and then how much space you need.
The second thing is to buy an enclosure for your 'old' HD - I have a number of these from OWC.
The third thing - formatting and installing a working OS on your new hard drive will depend on which model MacBook Pro you have.
Fourth thing - to try to recover data yourself, you're just going to have to pony up $100 and purchase DiskWarrior: now I've never used it - I have tested Data Rescue 3 on undamaged drives with great success -  but I think that in your case DiskWarrior would be the better product. Don't be surprised if it doesn't work - it just offers you the 'best chance' to rescue data.
Once you have your new hard drive installed and bootable, connect your old drive (now in an enclosure) and use DiskWarrior to try rescuing some data. As I said, there's no guarantee here but it's the first thing to try before spending $1000 or so at a data rescue specialist.
    Good luck,

Moderator's note: This post was edited. Provided a concern-related title.

Connect the phone to PC..Open Nokia Suite -->Tools -->Back-up ...
You may also use the SYNC tab at the bottom (next to the phone icon) which will sync various data (Contacts, Messages, Images, Music, etc) and you will be able to see them in the Suite itself. Back-up file will be in .nbu format and you will not be able to see the stored data without other special programme / application ...

My HDD is going to be swapped out under warranty by Apple. What do I need to do to ensure everything is put back where it belongs?
    Thanks

I'd suggest cloning the drive to an external hard drive. That way you're ensured of getting everything just as it is. The easiest way is one of the cloning utilities such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!. Then you can just clone back to the new drive.

Is it possible for me to transfer the backup data of my iPod touch and iPhone from my old computer to a new one? I don't own any Macs, only PCs. My backup data are saved on a PC (desktop) which has Windows XP SP2 as its OS and I am planning to transfer my iPod/iPhone backup data to a laptop with Windows 7 as its OS. Is it possible? If so, can someone tell me the step-by-step procedure on how to do this, including how to find the folder where my backup data is stored. I would be very much grateful. Thanks a lot for those who may be able to help me with this matter.  ^_^

Ah, I see. In that case your life will be much easier if you convert your library back into a portable format before you attempt to migrate it.
The normal location for the iTunes Library.itl file is the iTunes folder at <User's Music>\iTunes though it is possible that you have previously moved the library separately from moving the media folder, or you could have your media stored outside the designated iTunes Media folder.
Here are the typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
In the layout above, with the media folder (everything in the red box) inside the library folder, the library is considered to be portable. You can rearrange things to make a split library portable by taking a number of small steps which don't break the library.
Before you start any media files that are outside of the designated media folder will need to be consolidated. N.b. Your iTunes Media folder location should be on the target drive that you are going to build the portable library on. If you have the bulk of your library is stored in a folder on an external drive that is not currently designated as the iTunes Media folder then change this property (Edit > Preferences > Advanced) before consolidating.
If the library is in the old style layout then it should ideally be be upgraded to iTunes Media Organisation (Library > Organise Library > Rearrange files in the folder <Media Folder>) to ensure that iPod Games, Mobile Applications etc. are brought inside the media folder.
    The basic non-fatal manipulations are:
You can connect to an alternate set of library files by holding down Shift (Win) or Option (Mac) when starting iTunes.
You can move the library files to a new location as long as the media stays put.
You can move the library files and the media together if the media folder is a direct subfolder of the library folder.
If you have already moved/copied the media content from a subfolder of the library folder to a different location then you only need to copy the library files for it to appear as if you have moved the entire library in the way allowed above. I.e. just copy the library files into the parent folder of the media folder.
You can rename the media folder to iTunes Media (if it isn't already) if the media folder is inside the library folder.
iTunes uses the name of the folder holding the library files as the window title. Having made a library "portable" you may need to take a final step of renaming the library folder to iTunes or, if the library files have ended up at the root of a drive, moving all of the library files and content folders into a new folder called iTunes.
After each change you need to open, test and close the relevant library before attempting another change. If a change broke the library, undo it or revert to using the previous set of library files.
In essence all you need to do to make your library portable is copy the library files into the parent folder of the media folder on the external/secondary drive and use the hold-down-shift/option-when-starting-iTunes method to connect to it. Other manipulations may be required to normalize the library so that the library and media folders have standard names.
