I have restored my iphone 3gs back to factory settings, when i try to reactivate it keeps saying it cant due to activation server not working, when i attach to itunes it keeps saying no sim inserted, please help??

You have more chances of getting struck by lightning on a clear blue sunny day than T-Mobile in UK unlocking your iPhone in India especially as it was hacked

Where did you get the phone? If it was previously locked to a carrier and was hacked/jailbroken to use it on a different carrier, updating the phone has re-locked it to the original carrier. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize and unlock.

In that case only the previous owner can unlock it, either by providing you with the account ID and password, or by removing it from his list of devices (as he should have done before selling it) - please see http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4515
If you unable to contact him to do this then I'm afraid you will not be able to use the device - there is no other way of unlocking it at all.
You should if possible return it to wherever you bought it and ask for a refund as in this event the device is completely useless.
You should not post serial numbers or any other personal data here; I've asked the Hosts to remove it. -

You can NOT unlock it. Only the carrier it is locked to can legally authorize unlocking it and the Japanese carriers will not do so.
In order to be using it previously with a non Japanese carrier, the phone had to be hacked to illegally unlock it. You can not get help here.
Buy a new phone you can use. -

Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported.
Sounds like your iPhone was hacked/modified/jailbroken to work
with wireless carrier other than the one it was purchased from. The
update has relocked it to the original carrier. Contact the original
carrier to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify - only the
carrier to which the iPhone is locked can unlock it.
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?
Be advised that the previous modifications to change from original carrier
to your local Carrier may have rendered the iPhone unable to be
officially unlocked. -

No matter what i do my iPhone will not activate with WiFi or iTunes i have tried both. Putting it into recovery mode and restoring it does no help. The message is"we're sorry we are unable to activate your iphone at this time. Does anybody have any suggestions on what i may do?
You typically see that notice If your phone was hacked to unlock it from its original carrier or if your phone was jailbroken or otherwise altered with an unsupported modification.
If this situation is true then you'll have to find help elsewhere as a discussn of altered device is against the users agreement in the forum.
