i just got my iphone 4 replaced and had backed up my previous phone onto itunes on my computer. When i plugged in the new iphone the apps and music are not syncing, but my contacts and pictures are all back, any suggestions??

Install the latest iTunes from apple.com/itunes/download/
Remove the SC Info folder.
If that does not resolve the issue, see iTunes: "Error 42408" or "Error 42404" after upgrading to iTunes 9.0.3.

I had toclear the hard drive of my computer and reinstall Windows 7. Now I want to transfer all the music and photos from my iPad back onto my computer. I authorized the computer (it is the ONLY computer authorized on this account - and this is the ONLY account on this iPad). ITunes then downloaded my purchases...or at least it tried - out of the hundreds of tracks I have purchased, it managed one album that I bought over a year ago and NOTHING else. So I tried to Sync - since on older versions of iTunes (that were SO MUCH MORE user friendly) that would do the job -transferring things that were only on the iPad onto the computer and vice versa. It doesn't do that anymore. So I went from my iPad's summary to the Music tab - the box for Music was not checked but when I checked it said the only thing it could do was erase EVERYTHING from my iPad and replace it with what was on my computer (that ONE album). What is going on?

If you're trying to add a large amount of data all at once, and you get an alert of insufficient space, then from the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Time Machine
If the padlock icon is closed, click it to unlock the settings and authenticate. Turn Time Machine OFF, then back ON and close the preference pane. Restart the computer. Test.

- Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
- Transfer any other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music
- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the iPod from that backup. The restore will also update the iOS.
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music
Are you sure you have a 3G iPod? A 1G iPod can only go to iOS 3.1.3

I have a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS (eg: purchased from Apple). I received the same message at some point and eventually (after reading a bit more) accepted "Download and Update". No problem. No apparent bad effects. It just seems to update things specific to the carrier (Bell Mobility in my case).

Did you remember to completely power cycle the entire network?
You would want to do this after any update or change to the network.
If you did not do this yet......things are out of sequence.
Power off everything on the network.....all devices.....power down order is not important
Wait a few minutes
Start the modem first and let it run a minute or two by itself
Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
Work your way out on the network starting each device about a minute apart
Check the network

I just got a new macbook pro and got a new account to go with it. Now i have tried to homeshare the accounts and drag the music over to download it onto this new account but i can't get the homesharing to work because it says the password doesn't match even though i have used the same one to log on and off of homesharing on my mom's account. I have recently tried to back up my phone onto this new account and it asks if i want to authorize it and asks for the password for my mom's account. I have the password but i am hesitant to authorize it with my mom's apple ID and password because i don't want her account to be on this computer. I want it to be my own account just with my personal music from my iphone on it. I dont know if it will just sync my iphone's information to my new account or just add my mom's apple ID account to my itunes on my computer. That number is for an apple server in the UK that is used for iMessage activation. A hidden SMS is snet to that number when you turn iMessage on and is used to verify your phone number. I suggest you turn iMessage off. In settings/phone turn on dial assist. Check with your carrier to see if you can send an international SMS as you end that possibility to activate iMessage. Rest your phone (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).) then turn iMessage back on.

I am trying to update my wifes iphone5 to her macbook. The macbook already has her old iphone4s information. I would like to set up a new id for her so that I can keep all of the information on her phone and get rid of the old stuff on her macbook now. Is there an easy way to do this now. It won't unless a problem occurs. Back them up, uninstall iTunes and all related components, and reinstall them.

The only options it gives me is "set up a new iphone" or "backup from 'my iphone'"
Why can't I choose to backup this different iphone?
If I select "set up a new iphone' will it erase the data that's currently on the phone?

You want to save the content on the phone?
So you need to choose backup this iPhone to the computer. It will not over write a backup of a different phone.

I found an old iPod classic of mine. It's not synced to my new MacBook Pro. How can I get the music and photos off of it and on to my new computer? When I plug it in to my new computer it wants to erase what is on it and transfer from my new computer.

Every time I hook the iPod up to my new computer it wants to delete what is on the iPod and replace with the contents of the iTunes that is currently on the new computer. I don't want to do that. literally every time that I "should update" my software, as told to me by the software update system thing, and I listen to it, it screws up itunes, why? now whenever I open itunes, "unknown" error 42408 comes up. What is error 42408? Unknown. What I do know, is that now the remote app that I spent forever trying to get to work on my iphone now no longer is able to connect to itunes so clearly something is wrong. It seems that people who experience this error experienced it with itunes 11, which my itunes keeps telling me to get, and they fixed it by downgrading to itunes 10.7, which I have. When itunes tells me to get itunes 11, I thought, sure why not, maybe it'll fix unknown error, but when I click "download," system update comes up and takes a minute and a half to tell me I am up to date, but it doesn't download the new itunes(I'm on osx10.6.8 btw). Last time I uninstalled itunes and downloaded a new version/the same version, all 2500 songs I have were deleted and I just want to avoid that hastle. any suggestions?
