HT1414 will restore also restore app data?

Recently several of my apps got deleted. I'vr reinstalled most but some are missing their data. Will a device restore also restore my app data?

App data is saved int eh backup that iTunes makes at the beginning of every USB sync. If you restore from backup your app data will be retained/restored also provided that the app are alsi in your iTunes library.
I do not understand what Fiona Felicity said by: "Yes they will restore unless they are saved in itunes> apps."
Abb data is saved in the backup, not with the ap in the iTunes App library.

  • How can I restore 3rd party app data from my backup in the cloud

First a brief history. I use the iCloud to backup my iPad 2 and hardly ever synch it to itunes on my computer. I got the new iPad and restored the backup of my iPad 2 onto it.  All was fine except that an issue I had on my iPad 2's Safari had transferred over to my new iPad. That's is for another discussion. Anyhow I went to the genius bar and they said to just setup my new iPad as a new device and then manually install everything back on it. Stuff like mail, contacts, etc, would be reloaded from the cloud. So I did and I noticed that one of my 3rd party apps, MadPad, had none of my saved data. Does anyone know of a way to restore 3rd party app data from the iCloud? Is there some sort of utility out there that would do this?  I don't want to restore it from my previous iPad 2 backup because it will reintroduce the Safari problem back onto my new iPad.
    Thanks!

Assuming that you even have a backup with the data in it, you have no choice but to use a backup in order to restore that data. That is the idea behind backing up to iCloud. If that is the only backup that you have - then that is the one that you have to use.
But if the backup is bad - or had corrupt data - then you will end up with the corrupt data again. You cannot selectively restore app data from a backup. you restore all settings and data - or nothing at all.

did you turn 'find my mac' ON your MBA BEFORE your it was stolen? if not, you will not be able to do anything to the stolen MBA
if you did turn it on before it was stolen, yes it will erase everything on the MBA

  • If I upgrade my factory unlocked iphone to a new firmware, will I lose may apps, data or carrier unlock??

If I upgrade my factory unlocked iphone to a new firmware, will I lose may apps, data or carrier unlock?? I have a 4.3.3 firmware but want 5.0.1

If it's a genuine factory unlocked phone from Apple you should have no problems. I have had two, a 3GS and now a 4S, and they update and handle just like the locked phones. If it has been hacked in any way, though, all bets are off.

  • HT1766 How restore just one app data?

Can one restore just the backup data for a single app? If not, how is this usually handled, say if there is some crash in the app?

I guess the easiest way to explain it is that whatever data or files were in that app on that day that you created the backup will be restored fully and will look exactly like they did on that day.
Lets say you are using a Word Processor app for example. You make changes to say several files on a certain day. You create a backup that night. The next day you made changes to all those files again. You don't backup this time. Something goes bad the next day, and you need to restore from the backup. When you restore from that backup, those files will be exactly as they were on the day that you last backed up.
The only thing is - every file in every app on the iPad is also restored to the way it looked in that last backup. If you have spreadsheet files that you had worked on and revised on the day that you backed up - made changes the next day - that day that you did not backup - when you restore from the backup - those files revert to the way they were on the day that you backed up. The entire iPad will "look like" it did on the day that you backed up the last time.

Most of the time -  iTunes will create a backup when you sync. It will overwrite the previous backup when it does. I like to be proactive and create my own backups after I sync, just in case.
Finally - You have to make the choice to restore from the backup and have to initiate it on your own. The link that I provided above explains how to so it, whether you use iTunes or iCloud for your backups.

  • Will I lose my app data when migrating to another Computer?

    Hi all,
My father is wanting to unlock his iPhone 4 (5.0.1) so he can use it overseas.  Up until now he has synced his iPhone and the data to my Computer, a MacBook Pro running 10.7.4 Lion.  We have decided that it would be best for him to discontinue using my Mac and start using his PC to sync his content (Music, Tones, Apps and Photos) as he will need to restore his iPhone to complete the unlock.  So far we have copied all his music, tones and the apps themselves to his machine.  However we have only started to sync his music and tones with the iPhone.  We are concerned that if we start to sync the apps then his app data (such as 1Password Entries) will be deleted when the apps replace themselves during the 'erase and sync'.  We really want his iPhone to be solely dependant on his own computer so that he doesn't have to keep coming to me for 'this' and 'that' album.
Also as a side note he is currently syncing his Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Bookmarks, Photo Stream and Documents & Data with his iCloud account.
Thankyou so much for all your help
    James

    You're welcome.
So I am safe to continue to transfer music and movies to my phone, without harming my contacts so long as I keep those check boxes in the info tab unchecked? Correct?
Correct. Whatever you select to be synced or transferred from your computer to the iPhone via your iPhone sync preferences is synced or transferred and whatever is not selected is not synced or transferred. Some data is synced and some if just a transfer process from your computer to the iPhone.
Also, what do I do if I want to start syncing contacts now (to prevent this worry of mine in the future)? If I want to create a backup of my contacts right now, is that something I'd need to do manually? I can't just "download" my list of contacts from my phone to my computer, right?
Select the supported application on your computer for syncing contact information and calendar events with your iPhone. If this application or applications are void of any data, enter at least one contact in the supported address book application and one calendar event in the supported calendar application before syncing.
There is no way to backup this data on the iPhone.

  • HDD broken, how can I restore my iTunes (app, data, settings...)?

    Hello,
My HDD is broken, I will change it and I have to reinstall iTunes on my computer.
I use Windows XP Pro (sorry!) and I can access to all data which were on my old HDD (I did a ghost before the crash).
Could you tell me which is the best way to restore all App and Data which were in iTunes?
    Thanks a lot,
    Chris

Drag the folder \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes on the ghost drive to your current drive, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, click on Choose Library, and point it there. This will restore the content of the iTunes library, including playlists and other metadata, but not your preferences.

  • Will I lose my app data when I upgrade to ios 8

I Am considering upgrading to ios 8 for the new apps and features it brings but I am wondering if my apps will work on ios 8 and data will be saved? I know that when I upgraded to ios 7 all my data was still there, and I have heard ios 8 is similar to ios 7 in terms of look not like ios 6 to 7.
p.s. If this is the wrong place to post this question move it to where the right place is.

My iPad 4 runs fine on IOS 8.1.2, you should have no problems. To second what mende1 has already said be sure to make a backup first. The one time I had troubles with a update and needed to restore my iPad the iCloud backup fully restored all my infomation.

  • Is it possible to restore the Ipad without losing app data?

I have about 150 or so drawings saved to my Sketchbook App. My Ipad is 32GB, but 20 of that 32 is being taken up by the "other" catagory. I found that it could be useful to restore the IPad to rid it of this "other", but I also heard app data can not be restored. Since some of my 150 drawing are unfinished and I dont want to delete them, is it possible to keep the app data as well as delete the "other"?

A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup...
But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup...
Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

  • Restore from an old iTunes backup but preserve recent app data

I may need to restore from an iTunes backup that is several months ago, and I'm trying to figure out if there's any way to preserve the newer app data that gets synced to iTunes.  Obviously it's not an issue for apps that store data in the cloud, but for my apps that store data on the device, when I sync *after* restoring from an old backup, will the more recent app data that *presumably* is on my computer in iTunes overwrite the old app data now on the phone?

    Try this:

Yes, if you restore from backup all the old dats gets erased.

  • HT4859 Does iCloud restore app data?

When I backup an iOS 5.1.1 device with iCloud and I restore it will I get my app data back( such as a game highscore)?

Only for those apps that you turned on in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device in the Backups section, then look under Backup options.  (All this on the device whose backup you want to configure.)

  • Restore 3 times to get old apps & data onto new 3GS

Just discovered I had to perform 3 restores from my existing 3G backup to get (nearly) everything across to a new 3GS. First restore transferred core phone settings, 2nd copied across the apps with no app data, the third restored the 3G app data. Whew!!
Still didn't restore any iPod content, but I can copy that over easily.
(Oh, to do a forced restore, right-click on the device in iTunes & select Restore from Backup)
    Cheers,
    John.

Wow! I wonder why you had to do all that. My entire process too about an hour and a half, but I got everything on my 3gs on the first restore.
I wonder if others have had the same difficulty as you getting everything on the first time.
