HT1415 Movie rental question

I rented "Now You See Me" last night at 8:30, and I want to watch it again before my time expires but I am not given that option. The only option I see is to rent it again. Shouldn't I be able to watch it as many times I want within the 24 hours?

In my experience it will take the amount out of your gift card balance until that reaches zero. After that it will charge your credit card (it will also split if, for example, you have $2.00 left on your gift card balance it will take that amount and the remaining balance due will be taken from your credit card on file).
Gifting might work differently (due to accounting rules) and may only be deducted from your CC and not from a remaining gift balance.

  • Movie Rental Question

How does renting movies work? Does the movie go away after a period of time the next time I sync my iPhone? Also, is there a way to get a subscription to order movies at a discounted price? I may occasionally purchase movies, but for the most part, I'd like to rent for now. Also, does netflix have a feature where you can download the movie rather than just get a DVD sent to you. I'm more interested in downloaded my movies than getting DVD's. Any info on how this works would be greatly appreciated.

    How does renting movies work?
A rented movie remains available for 30 days from the time of rental or 24 hours from when you start viewing it, whichever comes first.

    Not from iTunes.

Netflix provides streams of movies; there is no actual downloadable file.

  • ITune movie rentals question

If I rent a movie on iTunes, can I watch it without internet? I would like to download a couple of rentals for a plane trip. Is that possible, or do I need to be connected to play them? Thanks!

But this is -- pardon me -- a crappy feature.
It's not a feature, crappy or otherwise.
You don't need to connect to the internet to watch it.
What happens when you start to watch it with no internet?
apparently, so iTunes will know when my 48 hours runs out
The time is tracked by the device the rental is on.

  • HD Movie rentals question

So im assuming the HD rentals won't be available til the AppleTV update. makes sense. Now, do we know if its Full 1080p? Also, has anyone gotten the rentals to transfer to their AppleTVs or is that not going to happen until the update as well?

HD will be 720p. No-one can transfer movies from their mac/pc to their tv under the current tv software. A software update will be out in around 2 weeks to enable rentals on the tv, but there is some uncertainty about whether transfers of SD content from itunes to the tv and vice-versa can be made. However since HD can't be downloaded to itunes (only the tv) we already know transfer of this content cannot take place.

  • ITunes movie rental question

It's been awhile since I have rented a movie in ITunes, but I use to rent them all of the time and I could start playing the movie about 2% into the download. Tonight, I am over 50% into the download and it still will not let me play it. Has something changed?

If you select the Movies part of your iTunes library, is there a rental tab shown on it ?

  • Itunes movie rentals questions

Ok, so what I want to do is rent a movie onto my macbook and play it on my big tv. Can it be played from the macbook to the tv just like I do when I use the television for keynote presentations? I have all the cables to convert from the mini dv to the hdmi on the television. I guess it's like making a makeshift appletv? Has anyone done this? Is the resolution decent?

    This should work.
I'm not sure about the quality. You said you are converting it into HDMI, so I would expect it to be decent.
The best way to figure it out is to rent a movie and try. XD.
    Good luck!

You will have to contact Apple/iTunes support, we are just other users like you, not Apple employees.

You can also Report a Problem with the rental in iTunes on your computer.

  • Question on Movie Rental

    Hello all.
This will be the first time I am renting a movie and I got a couple of questions.
This is from the iTS Movie Rental Support Docu:
    • You can only play your rented movies on the computer you rented it from and only if it is authorized to play your iTunes Store purchases and rentals.
Please refer to the last point; *Query: If I rent and download a movie from my iMac (main computer), can I transfer it to my MacBook?* OR that I just have to rent it off my MacBook? Because I was thinking of syncing the rental to my iPod and iPhone too (just in case) and they are connected/sync to my iMac.
    Merry Christmas and Cheers!

I think as you read more you will find that if you transfer the rental it will be deleted from the other device. You cannot have a rental on 2 devices. You have 30 days to view the movie - once you start viewing you have 24 hours to view it as many times as you want - then the content will automatically delete.

  • Question about Movie Rentals

When you rent a movie, how long is the rental good for? When time runs out, does it delete itself from your hard drive? Does it stay on the iPod until you sync or does it stop working there after a certain amount of time?
    Thanks for the answers!

Does anyone else think 24 hours is too short for a movie rental?
I watch these on my iPhone when I have time over a 2-3 day period.
I think 48 should be the minimum and possibly 72 hours.
Who/where can make concern know to Apple?
    Thanks.

  • Resets during movie rental playback

I've watched two rented movies using the Apple TV. In both cases the Apple TV seems to reset itself in the middle. For example, in the second movie I watched, at around 1 hour, and than 3 times after that, the Apple TV reset back to the home screen with no warning. It only takes a couple of seconds to reset and I can carry on from where it left off, but it's very annoying. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I think it's never happened when streaming material from my Macbook.

    Hey CharlieBrown777,
Thanks for the question. iTunes Store Movie Rentals cannot be shared with Home Sharing:

    - In addition, rentals from the iTunes Store can't be streamed or transferred to another computer using Home Sharing.
Instead, you can learn about moving the rental to another device:

  • HT1657 Using a VGA adaptor with iPad 1 for iTunes movie rentals?

I have an iPad 1 with a VGA adaptor to display supported apps on external displays like YouTube and GoodReader. I tried to use this with a rented SD movie from iTunes and I got a warning along the lines of  "output device not supported for protected material." Is there a way to do play iTunes rentals on an external display from the iPad? This is simple on a MacBook.
    Thanks,
    RSR

iTunes Store: Movie rental frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Can I play my rental on more than one device?
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

  • HD Movie Rentals

A few questions re HD movie rentals.
What exactly does HD mean? Is it the same quality as Blu-ray (i.e., 1080P)?
Any difference in picture quality between component vs HDMI connection?

All the AppleTV specs are on their website.
They currently offer 720HD movies (which look as good to the eye as 1080 on many HDTVs and the file size in considerably smaller - so "win-win"!). I'm sure many folks will be happy to offer you their "definitions" of "True HD".
And similarly, you probably wont notice the difference between component and HDMI, but the purists will tell you HDMI is sharper as it remains a digital signal.

  • IPad "cannot open" iTunes movie rentals

I am travelling / I rented 2 ,movies for the plane but did it from an old 32bit Macbook. They transferred fine to the iPad but when I tried to open them I got the "Cannot Open" message. Result - did not get to watch my rentals ! I have an idea the fact that I purchased on an old generation Macbook Pro is the issue ?
They are still on my iPad (and presumably still somewhow registered in my account)
I happen to be travelling with a 64bit Macbook Pro (should have purchased from here in the first place !!)
I am thinking there might be a way to resync my iPad with my 64 bit Macbook and resync the movies so that I can at least watch them on of before the flight home next week
    Ideas appreciated ?
