HT1420 Can't authorize 4th computer
I have three computers and three phones and one iPad authorized to my acct. I am getting the message that I have reached my 5 computer limit even though only three are computers. How can I authorize another computer?
Easiest is to deauthorise all devices then reauthorise the ones you want (you can only do this once a year). It's likely that you have something else authorised that you've forgotten about.
Sign in to the iTunes Store, choose Store > View My Apple ID, and click Deauthorize All.

I got a new Kobo and tried to register it so that I can download books from the public library. MY personal thinks to Radez29. Yes, it is now authorized. BUT, I have an obvious question and an obvious statement.
Question......why, in my many emails to/from Apple support, was this simple solution not given to me?
Statement.......Apple should consider "terminating" the present employees and hiring Radez29. He obviously knows a LOT more than the Apple support team.

We had ADE on a system whose hard drive was dying and becomming unusable. I replace the old hard drive with a new one and resinstalled everything. I was able to extract the My Digital Editions Folder from the original drive and copied it to the new drive. I then installed the latest ADE. When we attempt to authorize the new ADE install on the new harddrive we see the dreaded "You can only authorize this computer with an Adobe ID that hasn’t previously been used to authorize any other computer or mobile devices. Please try again."
How can we get back running on the new disk?

I have installed adobe digital on my computer without an adobe ID. I want to change as I not have an ID but I get this notice: "You can only authorize this computer with an adobe ID that hasn't been previously used to authorize any other computer or mobile device. What do I have to do?

When I try to download a library book on my Kobo reader, I keep getting this message. First it tells me to change the computer's authorization to be associated with an Adobe ID. When I click on authorize after logging in, the message keeps telling my "you can only authorize this computer with an Adobe ID that hasn't been previously used to authorize any other computer or mobile device. I have no idea what this means. Help!
Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help, and indeed installation can even trigger this state.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
Another is "E_AUTH_NOT_READY"
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people. Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. You need to either authorize it from that Apple ID or delete those songs and buy them from your current one.

I've downloaded ADE 4.0.3, apparently successfully, and I 'Close the 'Completed' window. But, when I attend to run the program, I get an hourglass for about 2 seconds and then ... ... nothing! Clearly I can't authorize my computer for download. Ideas?
Try restarting your machine and Launch ADE again

I have de-authorized two of the possible five devices on iTunes. I am attampting to authorize a Dell Laptop computer, but it keeps telling me that I must deauthorize another device. I have exited the program and re-opened it, but it made no difference. Likewise, I've rebooted the system but still no change. Any ideas??

and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.

Can't authorize another computer with the same account ?

I have 2 computers, one older than the other.
- on the older, I have the old version of ADE w/ lots of ebooks on it. I had it authorized (created an account etc...).
- on the new one, I have recently downloaded the new version of ADE, without authorizing it at first.
I wanted to transfer my ebboks from the older computer to the new one. It appeared I couldn't because the books were unauthorized or something like that. So I tried to get the authorization for the new computer, and the new version of ADE. The message when I try to fill in my usual ID/Password is "You can authorize this computer only if you do not use an ID that has already been comitted to an another computer or mobile device. Please Try again" (excuse me if its not exactly what you know : I'm french, and I tried to translate the message).
I have been reading the Q&A on the subject, and none of the questions mention this type of message. I am actually trying to get rid of one of my two computer. Of course I need to authorize w/ the same account. It can't be that you are bound by one computer or device ...
I do not use any device now : my old one is broken, so I read on my comptuer.
Please, can someone give me advice ?

Thank you so much for your helpAlmost certainly you have hit an incorrect error message from ADE. Usually ADE gives meaningless error messages, but just to keep the user on his/her toes it sometimes likes to give meaningful but incorrect error messages.
Try deauthorizing your new ADE using ctrl-shift-D (cmd-shift-D if on a Mac).
Restart and then try again to enter your usual ID/Password. -
