HT1420 Deauthorize a computer no longer in my possession

I forgot to deauthorize my old work computer before changing jobs. I'd like to authorize my new computer, but I'm at my 5 device limit. Is there any way to deauthorize a device that's no longer in my possession?

Only if you can log into it through Virtual Network Computing.

  • HT1420 deauthorize a computer not present

I seem to have 5 computers authorized, but only posess two computers.... one is not authorized - I don't know where the other computers are (must be old, long gone, computers) and don't want to deauthorize all of my computers - just the ones I don't have anymore.....

You can only deauthorize computers individually if you do it directly from that computer. To deauthorize ones you no longer have, you would have to deauthorize all.
However, once you have done this, you can re-authorize the computers that you do have with no ill repercussions. Just go to store > authorize this computer.
    Hope this helps

About deauthorizing specific computers - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3809988 - Only, if you have physical access to the computer or are running VNC, otherwise you have to deauthorize all computers. De-authorize all computers button may not appear until you actually have 5 authorized and you can only do this once a year.

  • HT1420 can i deauthorize a computer once it's no longer in my possession?

can i deauthorize a computer once it's no longer in my possession?

Individual computers can only be deauthorised directly on them, but when you reach the 5 computer limit then you can log into your account and 'deauthorise all' (which you can do once every 12 months) and you can then authorise/reauthorise the computers that you still have and need : authorising and deauthorising.

  • HT1420 My laptop crashed and I have authorized another laptop. I want to deauthorize the "crashed" computer but it is no longer working. All I can find is how to deauthorize "this" computer. Any way I can do that?

I need to deauthorize a crashed laptop that is no longer usable. I can only find how to deauthorize "this" computer. Can anyone help?

You need to use the Deauthorize All function. Remote individual deauthorization of a crashed computer isn't possible, and remote deauthorization of a working computer requires VNC access to it.

  • HT1420 How do I deauthorize my computer once it is no longer in use?

How do I deauthorize my computer once it is no longer in use?  I got rid of some computers, and didn't deauthorize them first.  Any help would be appreciated.

If you've got 5 computers authorised for the account in question, and you need to free up authorizations, I'd do a "Deauthorize All" from one of the computers you have access to, and then reauthorize the computers you have access to.

If you did not deauthorize before selling, you have to deauthorize all from your actual computer:
Remember to deauthorize your computer before you sell it, give it away, or get your computer serviced. Also, make sure you deauthorize your computer before you upgrade your RAM, hard disk or other system components, or reinstall Windows. If you do not deauthorize your computer before you upgrade these components, one computer may use multiple authorizations.

Go back to the article you asked this question from and use the Deauthorize All function, or if that's not an option, the link to contact the iTunes Store staff.

  • Deauthorize a Computer on Ipod - No longer have computer

How do I deauthorize a couple of computers on my son's ipod nano if I no longer have the computer to hook in to? The computers bit the dust I need to deauthorize the Ipod. Will this work same for daughters ipod shuffle.
I tried to do it on new computer but I am only getting the option to deauthorize the computer that I just authorized.

You can't authorize or deauthorize anything on the ipod. Authorization is not for ipods, it is for computers. The ipod is linked to the computer it last synced with.

  • HT1420 how to deauthorize a computer that is not working

I have a few computers on my acct that are no longer working. I can't turn them on to deauthorize them. Is there a way that I can do this from my current computer?

    Yes.
For computers: You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. Otherwise you can "deauthorize all" from your iTunes account.
    Open iTunes on a computer
From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
Under "Computer Authorizations" select "Deauthorize All".
Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "deauthorize all" your authorized computers, authorize each one as required.
It is also possible to have mistakenly authorized a computer more than once. To fix that:
    Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose "Deauthorize This Computer…"
Enter your account name and password.
Click OK. A message appears reading "This computer has been successfully deauthorized."
    Click OK.
Repeat steps 2 through 5 above. If you see the same message reading: "This computer has been successfully deauthorized," then your computer was using multiple authorizations.
Repeat steps 2 through 5 above until you see a message reading "This computer was not authorized. To authorize this computer, play a song or video you have purchased using this account."

  • Can I deauthorize a computer I know longer have from someone elses computer?  They have an itunes account on their computer.

I no longer have a computer, but do have an iphone.  I need to deauthorize the computer I no long have.
Can I deauthorize the computer from my iphone?
Can I deauthorize the computer I know longer have from a friends computer who has an itunes account on it?

"Can I deauthorize the computer from my iphone?"
    No.
"Can I deauthorize the computer I know longer have from a friends computer who has an itunes account on it?"
    No.
You can deauthorize all once you have reashed the limit of 5 authorized computers.  Until then, there is no need to deauthorize it

I need to know how to authorize or deauthorize a computer when the email address attached to it no longer exists
I can't access the account because your system doesn't recognize the last password -- and it won't let me change the password because it says the birthday information is wrong -- it's not.  There is no help item for that either, so somebody PLEASE tell me how to get around this problem.  My music is being held hostage.

  • HT1420 How do I deauthorize ONE computer?  All I see in account information is an option to deauthorize ALL computers.  I see where it says to deauthorize them all and then re-authorize the ones still in use but I do not want to do that.

How do I deauthorize ONE computer?  All I see in account information is the option to deauthorize ALL computers.  I do not want to do this.  I authorized an iPad at my previous employer (school for Autism) and want to leave that one authorized so the students will still have access to the apps and music.  How can I just deauthorize the desktop (windows) that I no longer use?

I am in a similar situation. Hoping there has been an update to fix this problem by now.... I do NOT want to deauthorize all 5 computers, AT ALL. I only want to deauthorize 1 computer I do not have anymore! Because there is no way I'd ever want to deal with re authorizing the other 4, when I only need to deauthorize ONE.
Have they patched this problem yet?

  • How can you deauthorize a computer that you no longer have?

How can I deauthorize a computer I no longer have? I was trying to sign into my itunes on my computer and it said that it was already being used on 5 other computers and that I would have to deauthorize one of them before I could sign in. I don't have any of those computers anymore so what needs to be done?

De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.
