I have just deauthorised all my computers for I tunes and now wish to reauthorise my laptop whicjh has just had a new hard drive installed and I am unable to do so despite reading instructions from Apple.

You should be able to do it via the Store menu at the top of iTunes (if are on iTunes 11 on a PC then try pressing Alt-S and the Store menu should appear) e.g

I have a new computer and I want to make it my home device for I tunes. I have home sharing, and all of the music and files are on the new computer. Now what do I do to make the new computer the home computer for Itunes?

The computer (windows platform) where I initially began using Itunes has four other computers/devices that are shared with it. All four of the other computers show up in my account, and can be managed. Or I can remove them. But on the new computer that I want to be my base computer (home if you will). The computer I want it to replace, when ITunes is open, has a tool bar, with various functions. All of the other devices are linked to that computer in ITunes, under Home SHaring. The new computer, shows the downloads via Home Sharing, but it does not show/have any tool bar.
I want to activate the new computer to be the computer via ITunes where all of the devices are linked to it as the base for ITunes. And, I don't know how to make that happen.
    I hope that makes sense.

How can I de-authorise a computer I no longer own

Use the Deauthorize All function described in the article you asked this question from, or if that's not an option, the link to contact the iTunes Store staff.

  • HT1420 how do I de- authorise a computer that no longer works or exists??

I am having problems with my iphone, it has been suggested that I sync it with itunes- i hate doing this and use icloud because my desk top computers are in moist enviroments and die after about 18mth to 2years- now the home sharing cant work on this desktop as the 3 dead computers in the past 4 years no longer exist and I have no idea how to remove them from home sharing when they are spare parts for other computers? help if you can ... PLEASE. Di

I'm not sure if this affects Home Sharing or not, but if you have systems that are authorised with an account that no longer exist then you can go to iTunes > iTunes Store > Your account and in there is a way to deauthorise computers from the account side.
Be aware that you can only deauthorise all your systems once ever 6 month (It think it's 6 months).
    EDIT : From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
"In order to enable Home Sharing, Automatic Downloads, or downloading of past purchases, your computer must be authorized for use with your Apple ID."
… so deauthorising your computer will remove them from Home Sharing as well.

  • HT1420 i need to de-authorise a computer for itunes but the computer is no longer working and the other computers which have be authorised have also been thrown away. How can I manage this problem?

i have previously had computers authorised for itunes but all have been thrown away or are now so broken that they do not even turn on! Please can someone tell me how I can de-authourise them and authorise at least 1 new computer? I have lost alot of music etc from CD's but I'd at least like to be able to get back what I bought from itunes.
    Many thanks for your help.

Follow the instructions in the article from which the question was posted to Deauthorize ALL computer then authorize the one's that you actually have/use.

  • How can I authorize my PC computer for Digital Editions after I have accidentally declined authorization?

I have used Digital Editions for about a year without any trouble. Today I was asked to "authorize" my computer. I declined and now am now prevented from copying my books to my e-reader. How can I fix this? This is a real drag.

I have this exact same problem, and I have assignments due that depend on accessing these books.

  • HT1420 How do I authorise my computer for iTunes when there is no "authorize this computer" or Advanced menu ?  When Apple say Store menu do they mean from the top of the store when logged in ?

Where is the iTunes Store menu that has Authorize this Computer located and/or Advanced menu ? How do I authorise my computer for iTunes if I cannot find Authorize this Computer or Advanced menu ?  Thank you.

It's done via the Store drop-down menu at the top of iTunes - if you are using iTunes 11 on a PC then pressing Alt-S should get the Store menu to appear e.g. (screenshot is from a Mac, but it should be similar on a PC) :

  • HT1349 How do I de authorise a computer that died unexpectedly.

How do I de authorise a computer that died unexpectedly?

You actually have to use the computer itself in order to deauthorize that computer - if that is the only computer that you want to deauthorize - or you can deauthorize all computers - and then authorize them all over again. Read this for more info.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
I had an iMac die on me about two years ago and was not able to deauthorize it for the reason explained above. I did not want to deauthorize and then authorize my other 3 computers, so I plan on not worrying about it until I reach the 5 computer limit. That is my advice to you as well - if you have not yet reached the limit - don't worry about it.

I got the new iPhone5 back in Dec, I hooked it up to my computer for the 1st time this wk.  It deleted all new data added since Dec (notes, contacts, texts, pics, info added to apps) and reverted back to all my old data (literally uploaded all of my old texts and 1400 old pics and deleted anything new).  How can I retrieve all the lost data?? My current situation: I have soooo many texts on my iphone and I haven't deleted many because I need the information contained in them for future reference and for legal purposes.  I would really like to find a means and way to save them other than on the phone itself. I've done searches for various apps yet I'm not finding what I think I would need.  It appears Apple does not sync the texts between the iphone and my MacBook Pro.
Try the computer apps PhoneView (Mac) or TouchCopy (Mac & PC):

  • I have to reinstall Mail as it's not working well. How can I make a back up of my emails so as not to lose them all?

I have to reinstall Mail as it's not working well. How can I make a back up of my emails so as not to lose them all?

Thank you for your time Woody. Recently the Mac seems to freeze a lot, seemingly due to a problem with the airport, especially if the computer is inactive for anything more than a few minutes. Then yesterday I suddenly couldn't send or receive messages so I got in touch with my server and they reconfigured the mail account. I can now receive messages but can't send them, always getting a timed out message when I try to send an email. I phoned the server again and they said it must be a problem with Mail as we tried sending a message online from the server's webpage and it worked fine, so they suggested I reinstall Mail. So hence my original question. Sorry for the rambling! I'm not very computer minded.

  • How can you change your security question for I tunes?

How can you change your security question for I tunes?

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then the steps half-way down this page give you a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 link above to add a rescue email address for potential future use
