Help. I am having problems trying to get to iTunes on my computer. I am getting an error message that says "The iTunes Library Extras.itdb file is on a locked disk or your don't have access to this file." Can anyone help me?

Close iTunes, delete iTunes Library Extras.itdb from your iTunes folder, start iTunes. iTunes should rebuild the file automatically.

I Can't open the iPhoto library. It says that the iPhoto library is locked, on a locked disk or you don't have permission to make changes on it. Can anybody help me?

Where is your iPhoto Library located?
    Apply the fix below:
    Fix #1
Try to launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.

The path C:/documents and setting/...iTunes.msi cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes.
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • I upgraded my OS in my Mac and now I cab't open iTunes. Error message says the iTunes library is locked, in a locked disk or I don't have permission to write.

I upgraded my OS from Lion to Mountain Lion. After that I can't access or open Itunes anymore. Message says " Itunes library is locked, in a locked disc or I don't have permission to write permission for this file.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line on this page to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

Where is your iPhoto library located? Is it in the default lacation in your Pictures folder or on an external drive?
What happened shortly before you could no longer open iPhoto? Did you import new photos, update software, install new software, move your iPhto library, run some cleaner/maintainance programs?
    Did iPhoto crash?
    Anything else, that might help?

  • I have connected my 3rd gen 32 gb touch to itunes to update to ios5, itunes not recognizing i don't have ios5 and not allowing the update. How do I fix this?

I have connected my 3rd generation 32 gb touch to itunes to update to ios 5, doesn't look like it is recognizing the need to update. Still says 4.2.1. software. Help!!!

See:  These devices are able to upgrade to iOS 5 -
    Here >  http://iosnova.com/tag/what-devices-can-upgrade-to-ios-5/
Which is why you can't update to iOS 5.
If your iPod was able to upgrade when you click Check for Upgrade under the Summary tab, you would see a dialog box asking if you want to upgade to iOS 5.

  • Library is locked, on locked disk, or you don't have permission to change.

Whenever I open iPhoto 08 (just upgraded it), it displays this message. What's going on?

OK, I found the solution, and it's completely ridiculous that this was even what caused the problem.
There was an alias in my movies folder. Yes, to clarify, that's my movies folder in /Users/myname/Movies. The alias led to my network drive. That alone was enough to bring down iPhoto. I'm wondering why iPhoto would possibly need to access the Movies folder, let alone why an alias going nowhere would bring down the entire program.

  • I can't open itunes it's giving an error "The Itunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for file.

yes itunes will not open it gives me an error that the file itunes library.itl is locked or on a locked disk or i don't have write permission for it.

Make sure that you have closed all programs that might be using the iTunes library.itl file. I would hit CTRL + ALT + DEL buttons and enter the Task Manager - from there end any unnecessary program running in the background.
Next try to start iTunes again. If it fails, restart PC, do the same with Task Manager and try to open iTunes again.

  • I am trying to open iTunes on my mac. But a box pops up saying "The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder". Anyone know what that means? I've had my computer 2 years and its never had a problem opening it

I am trying to open iTunes on my mac. But a box pops up saying "The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder". Anyone know what that means? I've had my computer 2 years and its never had a problem opening it

I've already right-clicked on the application, clicked "get info", and changed it so all people listed in the "Sharing & Permissions" section have the "read & write" privilage.
The error message is referring to your iTunes library, not your iTunes application.
You need to check and fix the permissions of the iTunes folder in your iTunes library. This is by default located in your "Music" folder.
Select the folder Music > iTunes  in the Finder, right click on it or Ctrl Click and click "Get Info". At the bottom of the contextual window thatwill  pop up, disclose the Sharing and Permissions brick, change your status from Read only to Read & Write. You may need to click the padlock icon to make changes.
