HT1420 my ipod doesn't charge on my computer. Help!!

My ipod doesn't charge or come up on itunes on my computer. What can I do?

If it still does not work after restoring to factory settings/new iPod that either indicates a hardware problem with the iPod or that the doc is not compatible with your model iPod and iOS. you can make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to hear what they have to say.

What normally happens is most people take showers and listen to thier ipods or live around many sources of humidity.  Moisture corrodes the 30 pin connector on the ipod touch.  Clean and inspect the ipod touch's connection pins to resolve most charging/ sync issues.. The pins could also be dirty, bent or broken.  If dirty: Take 91% rubbing alcohol, dip a tooth brush into it, shake the excessive alcohol off leaving the brush damp(don't use to much alcohol, it should not be dripping).  Careful!!! The Pins are Very Fragile! Gently brush the connector pins, long ways, left to right in a few second bursts, inspecting the pins as you go...   If you have an eye loop or magnifying glass you can see inside the connector easily and see if the pins look dirty or bent or broken.  If they are bent you have to VERY GENTLY stand them back up.  If they are bent very far down, chances are you will snap them off trying to straighten them back up.  If they are not severely bent over, use a very small flat head precision screw driver to bend the pin back parallel with the good pins.  Pease note: certain pins are used by the wire for different things such as sync or charging... If your pins are broken off, do a search and find out what the individual pins on the ipod 30 pin connector do to see what is affected.  Worst case is your pins are broken off.  U can attempt to solder the broken pins back on without opening the ipod touch, which is super difficult to do, or you can open the touch and repair/replace to 30 pin connector entirely.  U will need to do some micro soldering to say to least! Don't attempt unless you are confident in your soldering skills and research how to open an ipod touch? You will need some specific tools and watch out for floating LINT!  Get some canned air ;) use a small 1/2 second bursts from 4-6" away because it will steam up you touch if used for to long. Good luck!

  • Ipod doesn't charge except with usb

My 30 gig video only charges through the usb cable via computer. It doesn't charge with older firewire adapter, and I just bought an ez-trip car charger/fm modulator and it doesn't charge either. Any ideas?

Hmmm. I'm able to charge my iPod video or nano using a firewire cable from my Power Mac. The iPod reports that synching is not supported via Firewire but it charges.

Okay, so my ipod 5g charger was working perfectly fine last night until today. I plugged the charger into my pc and a windows error 43 came up stating that my charger as a ''unknown device'' I've tried the plug in my house to charge the device, it turns on but doesn't charge once it's on?

  • My iPod doesn't charge anymore.

My iPod won't charge anymore. I have tried charging via different USB ports on my laptop, as well as connecting it to various power outlets, to no avail. I also tried rebooting it, with the same result. The model number is MC544LL/A, and I have had it for about 2 years now. Any help or suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you!

  • Ipod won't charge at all! HELP!

My ipod is officially dead. I don't know what happened! I tried to charge it on the ipod charger, but the ipod just froze, and wouldn't charge. I never had this problem before. Then I connected it to my computer, and my computer sucked the batteries out of it, instead of charging it. Now it won't turn on at all, it won't even display the charging symbol when I connect it to the computer. The computer doesn't even recognize the ipod (it says the USB port that the ipod is plugged into has malfunctioned), much less itunes recognizing the ipod. I want to restore or reset it, but the ipod has no batteries, thus the computer can't recognize it and now it won't turn on at all! No matter what I do!

wel as it gives the error msg " the USB port that the ipod is plugged into has malfunctioned" its just n issue with the USB port on the computer.
connect to ipod to differnt USB port and always rememba . connect your ipod to the USB port behind the computer and not in the front.
    leme if it works

  • 2nd gen ipod shuffle will charge with one computer (vista) but not the other computer (windows 8).  Please help!

My 2nd gen ipod shuffle will charge on my old vitsta computer but not my new windows 8 computer. Does anyone know why that might be? The new computer recognizes the ipod and I can see everything on it, change settings, etc. it just won't charge. Is there a reason as to why this should be happening?

Just bought a refurbished 2nd generation ipod
shuffle. I am running the very latest version of OS X
and iTunes on an iBook G3 600 mhz with the slower USB
ports, not 2.0 ports. The ipod mounts and is
regognized by itunes, but I cannot seem to register
the ipod from itunes, it always has an error message
when I submit to register (all forms are filled out
correctly). The registration window in iTunes shows
that this ipod is formatted for Windows (from the
previous owner I assume) and may be causing my
    problems?
No. ALL shuffles are FAT32 format.
The other problem is that it will not sync and
transfer any music from itunes library. I am trying
to transfer simple mp3 files that should be compliant
with the ipod specs. No luck even after multiple
restarts on the ipod. Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you.

  • My ipod will not charge on my computer or in a wall charger or in my ihome . how do i fix this problem ?

my ipod will not charge anymore .
it won't show it's charging on my ihome or in a wall charger .
it won't even show it's charging on my computer .
can someone help me fix this .

If none of these fixes work, take it into the Apple store. barring any signs of obvious damage it's possible that your battery is sick, or that there could be something wrong within the device.
Do the troubleshooting to rule out a bad cable before you take time to go in.

  • IPod doesn't show up in "computer" but shows up in iTunes

I recently got a new computer for university, and it (unfortunately) has Vista. My iPod is currently synced to another computer in the house that is running XP. I have followed Apple's instructions on how to use my iPod as a storage device to transfer all my music from one computer to the next. I have downloaded and installed the latest version of iTunes (7.2 I believe) ontp the new laptop. The problem is, when I plug my iPod into the new laptop, it shows up in iTunes, but it does not show up in "computer". I need to be able to access it from "computer" in order to transfer my music onto the new computer. Where can I find the iPod on my computer?? Thanks

The latest version of iTunes is 8.0, but version shouldn't affect what you're experiencing. With iTunes running and the iPod plugged in so that iTunes recognises it, select the iPod summary screen in iTunes, and make sure that the disk drive option box is checked. All things being equal, the iPod should then show up in Explorer. I use XP but can't see that this would be very different with Vista.
    Good luck.

  • TS1363 iPod doesn't show up on computer after iTunes update.

Less then a month and it was working just fine.  Did the new download for iTunes and now the iPod won't work.  The computer will not see it and the  message telling me that a iPod is there but ... I can't remember...  I have waisted the whole day using every option on every page ever listed on this thing.  If I can't get a fix other then what I have already tried, I will take it back to the store, get my money back and buy a different product.  I was warned not to buy Apple, I thought that I was safe as this was made more then a year ago and is still listed on most lists as one of the best.   WRONG!

there are a million posts about this SAME issue. A LOT of people's crashed right around thanksgiving, or whenever itunes 6 came, some people on the discussions page have found fixes but they don't work for everybody... if you are using a PC and not an iMac then ur going to have to go through a lot of steps. Whereas if you buy an iMac (which ipods just so happen to be compatible with) then ur not going to have too many problems. COINCIDENCE???

  • Can charge with car charger but not computer HELP

when it is hooked up to my computer it starts the do not disconnect flashing then freezes then flashes then my itunes does not reconize it, but my computer shows as a removeable storage. then I have to disconnect the ipod and on the ipods screen it still says do not disconnect until i reset it then it won't turn back on. it is fully charged and the computer says very low battery.
I can play music and cut it off after i take it off the car charger but if I try to reset it it won't come back on. I would like to change my songs because they have been on there awhile and i can live with the car charger and not reseting but I WANT TO CHANGE MY SONGS PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Check the little gold pins on your charge cable.   We have burned up two apple cables from regular use.   They do t appear to be designed well.

  • IPod doesn't charge through USB 2.0 on PC

    Hi all
I have a 30gb iPod video that came new yesterday. However, the battery is quickly running down and the unit won't charge properly. When I first connect the iPod to the USB port the charging flash appears at the battery icon and the iPod seems to continue charging while iTunes starts up. However, after 15 minutes or so, or as soon as iTunes has finished updating the iPod, which ever is sooner, the charging icon stops and the battery doesn't seem to take any more charge.
The iPod was plugged in for about 14 hours over night last night but the battery meter only showed half full this morning and the unit ran out of power after an hour or so of playback. Now whenever I plug it in, it charges for the couple of minutes it takes for iTunes to start and sync up and then stops again so the battery is still almost empty.
Is there anything I can do? Is the iPod battery faulty, or would buying the separate mains charger help?

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of thing I was suspecting and hoping for. However, I don't seem to have that option. I'm running windows 2000 professional and under My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware Device Manager I can select two different USB root hub items which have 'Power' tabs but on that tab there is only information about the amount of power devices on that hub are drawing, there are no options to be changed, nor on the other available tabs.
I'm using a USB port on the back of the computer as those are the only ones installed on the machine. I'm wary of buying the power adapter as, if this is a problem with the battery, I'll be laying out money for nothing.
    But thanks for the replies
