HT1428 chown -R does not work in terminal what do I do to change home name?
I want to give away or sell my mac but my home directory name is one I use on my other accounts. I have deleted hard drive but my name is still in the guts of the computer HT1428 on how to change the account name did not work for me. I must be doing something wrong in Terminal. I have even tried sudo rm-r/home// but nothing happens. I have tried chmod but I can't understand the protocol for the commands. I don't want to learn Unix, I just want to do this one thing.

Prepare Your Mac for Sale
Boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Options button. Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button. Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive. If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive. The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive. After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now complete the OS X installation. At the completion of the installation do not restart the computer. Instead just shut it off. The next user will be presented with the Setup Assistant when they turn on the computer just as it would if new out of the box.
Be sure to include the installer discs for the OS X version you install per the above.

It appears that you may not have a properly installed OS X system.
You must be connected to the Internet to reinstall OS X.
In the menu bar, choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
Select “Disk Utility,” and then click Continue.
Select your startup disk from the list on the left, and then Repair Disk.
After disk is repaired, select Reinstall OS X, then click Continue.

You don't in the condition it's in. You will either have to get the phone replaced by Apple or pay a 3rd party to repair it.

Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. Try a bookmark.
If that didn't help, check Safari / Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari.
If Extensions aren't the issue, reset Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset. -

Verizon does not fix/repair/replace devices.
Apple provides all hardware support in the US.
Take it to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.
FYI, they do not fix devices, so backup your device prior to going to the store. -
i am trying to sync and back up my phone but it never works, so i tried to restore my back up but a message is telling me that an error occured so it does not work. It might be the battery, it sure sounds as though it could be. What happens if you leave it to charge, does the charging symbol show, does the battery icon show full, part full or empty at any time?
If you check here; https://locate.apple.com/uk/en/ and enter your postcode in the Service box, you should see the options available to you from Apple and its Authorised Service Providers. They can advise you about the battery and you should be given the cost before you commit to spending your dosh! -

Two finger zoom in and out does not work most of the time. The two finger tap does work. Why does the two finger zoom not work. Checked settings and it is on.
It only works in some Apple applications. For example, it works in Safari but not Firefox.

After the latest upgrade to Mozilla 32 a previously recorded imacros scirpt in which the data was being imported into mozilla from a csv file keeps erroring out. This same problem occurred with the with the upgrade to Mozilla 30 and was fixed when Mozilla was upgraded to 31. Can you please advise on how to correct the problem so that csv files can be used in conjunction with imacros scripts. I would like to point out that imacros still works without the use of csv files, but when you introduce a csv to the script the imacros does not work.

I got use to using Calendar app where multiple entries are stacked under IOS6. Under iOS7.0.2 I enter a new appointment and after the entry I can not find the new appointment after i click on done. Am I doing something incorrect HELP!
The list view does not appear to be among the "standard views" for the Calendar app in iOS 7.0.x. You can still get the list view by going to the day view and hitting the search button (magnifying glass icon).

Save yourself time -- go online to apple.com to your local Apple store, get a Genius Bar appointment, and bring in your nonfunctional headphones at the appointed time. They literally just take them from behind the counter and hand you a new one.
