HT1433 connecting hp 4000 n printer to mac os x 10.6.8

I recently acquired a HP Laserjet 4000 N printer and I cannot seem to figure out how to print.
I have connected the printer to my Imac via an ethernet connection but the computer still does not seem to recognize the printer.
Can somebody help walk me through how to setup the printer?
I know the printer is old but when I look in the drivers, I see HP Laserjet 4000.
Please help!

By connecting this HP printer directly to your iMac by Ethernet, both the iMac and the printer need to be on the same IP subnet in order for the iMac to "find" it. The JetDirect Print Server, a networking interface device for this printer, was designed to be connected to a wired router or Ethernet switch ... not directly to a computer.
Since this printer was built in the late 90's, the installation CD does not include OS X printer drivers, but even OS X Lion has a printer driver for the HP 4000 that may work.
When adding this printer to your Mac, you would need to select the IP Printer option for the printer type from System Preferences. Since this printer is connected directly to your Mac, you will also need to use the printer's control panel to assign it a static IP address that is in the same subnet (10.0.n.n, 172.n.n.n, or 192.n.n.n) as your Mac. Better still, I would recommend that you get a wired router and connect both your Mac and the printer to it.

Since upgrading to OS 10.10,1  I can no longer wirelessly print to my HPCP 1025. i tried connecting my Mac via USB to the printer - that works and prints. Whlst connected to the printer via USB I tried to get an update for a wireless print driver from the Mac App store - it didn't find one.
My Mac is displaying my printer in the WiFi dropdown menu and there is a clear, strong signal but my Mac is not connecting to it. Any suggestions?

Have you tried powercycling your printer, router, and Mac?  Have you tried updating the printer firmware?  Also, you may want to verify that your router is configured to properly forward bonjour packets.

  • Connecting to Wireless HP Printer from MAC

I am 4 days into the transformation from lifelong PC user to MAC newbie, but I am about to return the MacBook Air 13". I am hoping someone on this forum can help.
I can print wirelessly from my Windows 7 laptop to the HP OfficeJet 6500A Plus E710n-z where the printer and the Windows 7 laptop are both wireless.
I can get on the internet from my MBA wirelessly. I can access the admin page of the Linksys WRT110 router wirelessly. I cannot see the HP printer however.
I can set up an ad hoc wireless network between the MBA and the HP printer and connect and print, but I can't see the printer from the MBA when i have it join the wireless network. This leads me to believe there is a setting or port that the MBA uses that is blocked in the router, but no one can say.
Your help is very much appreciated!

I have spent 15 hours with HP tier 2, Linksys tier 2, and Apple.

I have hit or miss problems (a LOT of misses) with HP printers and Macs for years and so have my clients. I'm here right now because I can't even share an HP Photosmart 8250 from one Mac to another right now.
It's very frustrating. I wish I had better advice, but when it comes to HP printer and using the Mac's built-in printer sharing it just won't work sometimes. I'm not sure if I hate Apple or HP more for this or not.

  • Can't connect to network PC printer with Mac Pro

I have the only Mac in the house. My wife's HP Deskjet 5650 is the network printer for the family. When I try to add this printer to my Mac, it sees the workgroup, her computer and her printer.... but it won't print. It does not show a location, although under the GENERAL tab when I click on her printer icon in my Dock it shows a URL: smb://... address. Putting this smb address in LOCATION doesn't help.
How do I get connected? Thanks for any input I get.
    Jeff Mirkin

First you need to make sure you are trying to connect to the correct network SSID (name). So click on the Airport icon in the menu bar and scroll down and select the name of the network. If a network requires a password it doesn't mean it's not free.

  • Can't connect to wireless printer from Mac

I have 2 wireless printers.  My Macs can connect to one, but can not find the other.  My PCs can connect to both just find.
The printer I can't connect to is a Lexmark 4650.  I'm running the install CD, but when it tries to find the printer, it doesn't find it,
so I can not complete the setup.

If you have the printers IP address open Terminal (Applications/Utilities) and at the prompt type: ping {printerIP}. You will get a reply or failure.

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

A few days ago, my HP printer software updated automatically, everything seemed fine (Mac is running Maverick, my laptop is Snow Leopard).  Out of the blue yesterday, my printer stopped printing (neither Mac can connect), I have tried everything.  Both the suggestion from HP and Apple, it's making me crazy I've spent most of time trying to fix it.

    You tried exactly what ?
I most of the time would start with the same Apple Printer Support page tech articles
OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Lion systems will have the necessary printing software already installed, or will automatically download and install software when the printer is connected or configured. Do not install software that came with the printer as it may be out of date, and do not connect the printer to your Mac yet. Follow the instructions that came with the printer to unpack, install ink or toner, and insert paper.  Finally, use the instructions in this article to connect the printer to your Mac.
Make sure the printer model is listed in Printer and scanner software, which is a comprehensive list of all printer models that have compatible software for OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Lion.

  • Photosmart 5520 connected but no wireless printing nor wireless direct / Mac OSX 10.6.8

Hi, I've got the Photosmart 5520 installed a few weeks ago and after the set up wireless printing was working fine for a day, but never since. My computer runs on OSX10.6.8 and the modem is a MOBILE Wifi E589. The printer is connected to the network, network test results came up fine, i can choose the printer wirelessly in the printmenu but then get the message: Unable to connect to printer / Network host busy alternating. The network test result comes up fine, no issues. Ive unplugged the whole lot and restarted it (modem/compuet/printer) without success. Wiresless direct doesn't seem to work either. What's next??
    Thanks heaps in advance!!!

    Hi @Kimaschi,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you cannot print with your HP Photosmart using a wireless connection, or wireless direct on your Mac OS X 10.6.8 computer. I am happy to help!
I would recommend to go through the following guides:
'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Mac OS X.
Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
Also I believe this website, Wireless printing center, has a lot of useful information as well.
A couple of questions, if you don't mind:
Do you see any error messages on the printer's control panel?
Can the printer make copies? Copy Text or Mixed Documents.
Have you tried printing using a USB connection? If so, does it print?
Hope the guides help, and hope to hear back from you soon!

  • How to print pdf from mac when printer is connected to windows pc which in turn connected to same wifi as my mac?

I have HP deskjet F4400 printer which is always connected to my PC with win 7 on it. And the PC is connected to same wifi as my mba. How can I print a pdf over the network? Because always taking my mba near the printer and connecting it and then printing is a time killer....
I am using MBA 2014 with Yosemite and a PC with win 7.

My strong recommendation is to connect the 2510 via ethernet to your router.  It is the most straightforward way to have it accessible to the entire network.
Also, when you upgraded your network from g to n, did you put it in backwards-compatible mode (in other words, works with both g and n devices)?  I also strongly recommend that.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • I have 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute?

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

My iMac is connected to a Brother printer. I have Snow Leopard 10.7.3 As of yesterday, when I try to print a PDF it prints as a blank black page. Does anyone know how to correct this so that the PDF will print as I see it on screen?

If you are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 then you have Lion installed, not Snow Leopard. It's probably not important to this discussion, but something you should be aware of.
What application are you printing the PDF files from? Have you tried opening the PDF file using the Preview application that can be found in the Applications folder? Does the issue still occur? Have you tried other PDF files from a different source?
Another poster in the following discussion thread reported that this method resolved their black blank PDF issue when viewing (and presumably printing) PDF files from Safari.

There's a solution if you want to see the PDF inside Safari's window :
Go to the folder : Your Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins.
If you see a file with PDF in its name drag it to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari to test with a PDF.
If it works you can empty the trash.

  • Can't print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion

    Dear all,
I would like to share my experience battling to figure out how to print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion. Myself had this problem and looking throughly in internet without success. But finally I figured out the solution by myself, hope this can help other Mac user with similar problem.
OK, when I try to setup my new MacBook Pro with OS Lion to connect with my Canon MX308 printer attached to desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate,
    1. I simply select System Preferences>Print & Scan.
    2. Then looks for the + sign just below the box to add a new printer.
    3. From the option toolbar above, I select Windows. I have connect this MacBook with my Windows Network, so the workgroup will appear to the left column.
    4. After I select this group, the computer list will appear in the middle column
    5. Then after I select the computer which my printer connected to, my printer sharename will appear in the right column
    6. Last step is to select the printer I want to use.
    7. After that it will automatically put your printer sharename to the "Name". And then I select my printer driver at "Print Using" and find my printer manufacturer which is Canon MX300 series from driver lists. Finish!
My printer appear in the Printers List. But the problem is everytime I try to print there will be error message saying "ON HOLD Authentication Required".
This problem start to kill me, I search all around for similar problem, but the solution was never worked for me!
Until just now I figured out accidentally for the solution.
THE PROBLEM LIES ON MY PRINTER DRIVER!!!! Although I have downloaded the most update driver from Apple site and Apple Software update said there is no more update for my system!
The solution for my problem is Gutenprint Printer Driver! You can download this driver at http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php, then select for the latest driver gutenprint-5.2.7.dmg. Install this driver!
Then back to Print & Scan in System Preferences, then right click on Printers List box, then choose "Reset Printing System..." to clear the previous failed printers.
After that, repeat the above step 2 - 7. Only for the last step I need to select the Printer Driver for my Canon MX308 for the driver name : "Canon PIXMA MX300 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7"
Now I can sleep as a baby knowing that my printer make a friend with my new Macbook Pro! Hope this will help others!

I have the same setup but with a Canon MX850.  This did not fix my problem.

  • Unable to connect to internet or print wirelessly on Boot Camp with Windows 7

I recently installed Boot Camp and Windows 7 on my Mac Book Pro with no problems.
A month later, I am unable to connect to internet or print wirelessly.
It states that I am connected to my router.
When I trouble shoot, it cannot find the problem.
My wireless connection and cable connection are fine on the MAC side.
    Please help.

looks a like a Windows 7 problem. I assume that you can click on the current connection info on the task bar and see a connection to your wireless router?  Have you updated your copy of Windows since it was working? I am wondering if it's an update that's applied in Windows which has done something.
